Today i'm in vacation, i decided to walk on the streets of philadelphia.
Anyone knows any good sights over there?

I used to live in Philly. I'll give you some ideas. Get a Philly steak sandwich somewhere. Most places are good, but reject the cheese whiz they offer and ask for provolone cheese. And pizza sauce. And fried onions.

Go to Penn's Landing and tour the submarine. It's crazy the tight quarters they lived in.

Also, don't miss the Franklin Institute, a wonderful museum for kids and those of us who are still kids at heart. Speaking of the heart, there's a giant heart you can walk through as if you're a blood cell. When you walk through it, you hear the thumping of it beating. Also, there's a place where you can board an old locomotive and go forward and back a few feet while exploring it. In the basement is a glass case containing a doll that will draw a picture for you. This really, really fascinated me as a kid. Maybe you'll see some Ben Franklin demos about electricity. One of my favorites was to see kids touch a ball and have static electricity make their hair stand on end.

Isaiah Zagar's Magic Garden on South Street is another place not to miss. Very zany artwork on multi levels, a real warren of interesting stuff to see.

While you're on South St., just look in all the stores. I remember when this street was slum, and now it's very fashionable.

Go north to see the haunted Eastern State Penitentiary. I've never been there, but I really want to tour it someday.

If you have a car, and the weather is nice, drive up the East River Drive along the Schuylkill River. It's lovely in spring, but maybe you'll see teams out rowing their boats.

If you get far enough, explore the Wissahickon Park, a valley along the Wissahickon Creek. There's lots of stuff to see there, but detailing it all here would take too long. Have a meal at the Valley Green Inn. We went there one winter with snow falling gently outside and a nice fire in their fireplace.

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
Trit and Awsum, and anyone else who wants to give input, what do you think about this? Turning Sand into fuel - Silicon oil as an energy carrier - Sepp Hasslberger

The new student, a 12-year-old boy, wants to know more about using sand as fuel, so I did some research. This and another site about using it in batteries sounds interesting, but on this site, a lot of the science is beyond me. Any insight?
Too much energy and work needed to convert to silanes, plus you have the environmental factors and human factors involved.
How it will affect health, how it will affect the upper atmosphere?

In the 70's we thought CFC's on sprays are ok, refrigerator coolants were ok, lead in gasoline was ok. THIS was a study of the 70's too.
IF it's going to be implemented more research is going to be needed which will require a decade or infinity.

So you are going to CONSUME earth's resources to convert them to energy by using already available energy from solar (expensive) or non renewable sources like coal or hydrocarbons and after you spend it you are going to use more energy to convert it back to usable storable energy.

Space travel relies on future energy sources (which have already implemented in the past and more recently) like Plutonium Multi-Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator for satellites and the curiocity rover, or they are trying to use solar winds and plasma engines, much more effective and safer than trying to carry 100 billion trillion tons of diesel oil or silanes for deep space travel.
Unless aliens have gas stations all over space.

Looks like a dead subject to me.

Interesting idea, but like Tritium mentioned, is it "economical" in terms of energy and "safe" in terms of environment? The research/article was done in the 70's so in my mind, if it was a "Holy Grail" of energy, there would have been a lot more research done and we'd be seeing at least prototypes of engines/motors to use it and a "test plant" to produce the long chain silicon liquids they would combust.

I have an image of pulling up to an alien gas station, in space, and saying "fill 'er up with high test silicon" :)

Our "yoyo" winter is continuing. It's almost 60 outside and supposed to get into the mid 60's today, along with some wind, then drop into the 20s-30s overnight tonight. We got a lot of rain overnight as well, but thankfully it stopped before I walked Bo.

Wind chill -19 deg F. We went to Mass last night so we wouldn't have to brave the weather today.
The coldest it ever got here was -18 degrees and that is darn cold. Wise plan to stay inside, Three.

I think it's more of how a kid is raised mostly.

Hi everyone!!! It's colder than a well digger's backside down here. We had flurries today (well technically yesterday :p) Hope all you volties stay warm cuz I'm trying! I sleep with a heating blanket for me and my Bruno. Spoiled rotten pup has his own 'nest' at the foot of the bed on my side. I lay the heat blanket down on my feet (cold toes does not a happy Celti make :D) Then another blanket is laid on top of the hb then a folded throw on top of that. Bruno lays on it and I curl another throw around him, he loves it and sleeps like a (very heavy) rock all night. Talk about rotten . If the weather changes (like it usually does down here) in the night and warms up, Bruno will get off the bed and sleep on his body pillow in the floor.

Anyone else think Ma Nature is slightly BiPolar??

@awsum140 your station is offline :D

Yeah, I see that too and got a message from WU as well. I'll re-boot th "bridge" in a few minutes, once I get a little more coffee into me.

We have way too much wind for fog, even if it was humid enough. I just walked Bo and it is a little brisk out there today. Unfortunately the crocuses didn't get the message that it's winter time and have started to sprout.

Got a little chilly last night in our tropical paradise. The weather said low 43 but it was 37 on my porch. High today only 60. I'm ready for summer.

That is cold for your area, Wuzz.

16 degrees this morning. Chilly but I will work with the horsies a bit today. Still working on building trust with Pony Baloney. Wiseguy is doing a little better on turning to look at me and making smooth transitions. I love those horses even if they are small. They make adorable snortie noises.

Girlfriend and I drove to CA and picked up Powerball tickets. Hey, gotta dream.

Counting down the days until I get my puppy. Looks like the little girl has already gone to her new home. Hubby leaves Sunday and comes back Monday with my adorable ball of fur.
