Celti, maybe you'd like this book. https://www.amazon.com/Gordath-Wood...8&qid=1471745134&sr=8-1&keywords=gordath+wood I worked on it along with all those J. D. Robb books, and I liked it a lot. I think I also read the sequel. I still remember something from one of the books: When a boy crosses over to the modern world, he is amazed that they don't keep their kitchen knives sharp. Its funny that I think of this whenever I have to cut up food with my dull kitchen knives and think, "I should sharpen this knife."

Of course, maybe part of why I liked it was the horses, but there was lots more I think was better than most of the books I read during that time.

Do any others of you have those haunting moments where you read something and that scene comes back to you at regular intervals? I get lots of those moments.

What are yours?

Good morning Voltville. Still very much summer here. At least we're finally getting some rain. Hope everybody has a great Sunday

In our area the heat has been raging. I was worried about us setting records this year - yesterday the weather man compared this year to others and it turns out that while it is hot - it ain't no where near the records set in the past... I am feeling better about this year now.

We broke a one day record in July. I'm out working in it a lot, as I have been all my life, and I don't notice it as being any hotter than a normal warm cycle. We haven't had a rough winter in a couple of years so we're about due once it breaks.

'moanin, Volties.

Wuzz, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that isn't surprised by hot weather, of all things, in the summer along with some violent storms when a cool front comes through. As I remember it, that happens every summer.

I don't think hot weather is so unusual at this time of year, but here, the big concern is the ongoing drought. Today, it's raining steadily, at times hard, which is what we need, though we probably need a lot more rainy days like this before the water is up where it should be. Anyway, I'm glad to see the rain.

Yes, I know the middle of July is usually pretty dry, but the rain starts again after that, and it hasn't, really, till today. We've had a little rain here & there recently, but not the amount needed.

Again, the cyclic nature of weather is more than well documented. Talk about drought, what about the "dust bowl" years? And that was long before carbon emissions became a problem. It just seems, to me at least, that any deviation from "normal" becomes a matter of national importance and a crisis when those deviations happen, and have been happening since time began, all the time on a world wide basis. To top it all off both NOAA and NASA have been caught fudging the historical numbers.

Oooh that looks right up my alley, Thank you Sandy!

Question, When you were reading through all those books, did you sometimes get lost in the story? I know if I took up that job, that I would have to go through each book a few times to makes sure I didn't forget to correct something. :p

I hear people complaining about it being a hot summer and it probably has been pretty warm. But it's August in Florida and I'm not expecting a snowstorm. We get what's called seabreeze showers. It's when the Gulf breezes collide with the Atlantic and t storms pop up everywhere.

To a point I would agree that we may have made some small change in the weather with stuff like covering up the earth with asphalt and concrete but imo the worse thing we've done is with pollution. A lot of the pollution in lakes and streams are from agriculture. The landfills seem to have a grip on a lot of pollution now that used not to exist. At least down here.

    Good morning,

Did not cool off much last night. It is 73 degrees out there after a high of 98 degrees yesterday. It's only supposed to be 90 today and it looks really cloudy. Might get a thunderstorm today.

We got so much done yesterday. Hubby put up the final piece of trim. Yahoo, we are done with our mega home improvement projects for the summer.

I rehung the fan that blows across the door to the deck and Hubby fixed the light switch to the back porch so now that fan over the door is working as well. Really helps keep the flies out when you go in and out of the house.

We straightened out the shed next to the house. It was a mess. Every time we straighten it out I decide some of it can be thrown out since it's been in there long enough. Use it or lose it! We got much of the backyard picked up and I did poop patrol. I need to continue those efforts around the yard.

I got a couple of wheel barrows of horse manure out of the horse pen and I have one more load to go. Also, need to scrub the horse trough today and get them nice new water. It doesn't look bad but clean water is important and I have other things to do this week to make sure we are ready for the BBQ.

Hubby got the garage straightened out. Thank goodness since the mess was making me crazy. I located some landscape timbers for the horseshoe pit. They are a bit rough but I am sure it will be fine. Hubby has some large pine rounds [and I do mean large] that I think we can use for seating near the horseshoe pits. I'd like to get that game area straightened out today!

I'm going to use an old trunk for the volley ball area. It is big enough to hold the badminton rackets and birdies and a couple of volley balls. I bought some 8 foot stakes so, by the time we pound the stakes in, the net will be a bit low but that is fine by me.

Another busy day for me. I have to work some more on the inside of the house as well this week. The place needs to be tip top for the BBQ. I bought new towels and rugs since the old ones are getting old anyway. I have some more light globes to take down and wash up. The bugs manage to get in them. I don't know how. So, I will throw getting a bit done in the house into the mix this afternoon when it is too hot to work outside!

Mostly, I could comprehend the story, which was important in case there were inconsistencies in the plot, and still find errors. I usually liked to read the book twice, though, to pick up any errors that I had missed on the first reading. I tried reading a book 3 times, but I never found enough additional errors to warrant that much more time spent on it.

One good thing about not having that job anymore is that now I can read books I want to read, not just books I was hired to read, whether I'd choose to read them or not. And I read a lot of books I'd never have chosen to read, too. And after working for hours at reading, I never read for fun, which was a great loss to me for many years. I really liked having that kind of work, but there are certainly benefits to not doing it anymore. I guess that's true of any job a person really likes.

I am going through a major rewrite. I have cut it to a bit more than three hundred pages. I have set aside some of my research for later use.

My allergies were causing brain-fog, and I decided to live with brain-fog because of fear of publication. Since moving, I have been on a rampage to eliminate allergens.

Very interesting. You would have to be able to multi task while reading.

I didn't read much for quite a few years but I find that I am really enjoying my down time and reading. Lovely to sit on the back deck and listen to the sounds of the yard and nature and relax.

    That's a lot of pages, 3M.
