Amazed to see you here, semi.Just thought I would drop in to see how everyone is doing. I see Voltville is still plugging away - that's good to see. Well, ya'll take care now - you hear...![]()
I see you still have that fabulous chair. Nice to see you.
Good morning Voltville. Still very much summer here. At least we're finally getting some rain. Hope everybody has a great Sunday
We broke a one day record in July. I'm out working in it a lot, as I have been all my life, and I don't notice it as being any hotter than a normal warm cycle. We haven't had a rough winter in a couple of years so we're about due once it breaks. In our area the heat has been raging. I was worried about us setting records this year - yesterday the weather man compared this year to others and it turns out that while it is hot - it ain't no where near the records set in the past...I am feeling better about this year now.
Oooh that looks right up my alley, Thank you Sandy!Celti, maybe you'd like this book. https://www.amazon.com/Gordath-Wood...8&qid=1471745134&sr=8-1&keywords=gordath+wood I worked on it along with all those J. D. Robb books, and I liked it a lot. I think I also read the sequel. I still remember something from one of the books: When a boy crosses over to the modern world, he is amazed that they don't keep their kitchen knives sharp. Its funny that I think of this whenever I have to cut up food with my dull kitchen knives and think, "I should sharpen this knife."
Of course, maybe part of why I liked it was the horses, but there was lots more I think was better than most of the books I read during that time.
Do any others of you have those haunting moments where you read something and that scene comes back to you at regular intervals? I get lots of those moments.
What are yours?
I hear people complaining about it being a hot summer and it probably has been pretty warm. But it's August in Florida and I'm not expecting a snowstorm. We get what's called seabreeze showers. It's when the Gulf breezes collide with the Atlantic and t storms pop up everywhere.'moanin, Volties.
Wuzz, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that isn't surprised by hot weather, of all things, in the summer along with some violent storms when a cool front comes through. As I remember it, that happens every summer.
To a point I would agree that we may have made some small change in the weather with stuff like covering up the earth with asphalt and concrete but imo the worse thing we've done is with pollution. A lot of the pollution in lakes and streams are from agriculture. The landfills seem to have a grip on a lot of pollution now that used not to exist. At least down here.Again, the cyclic nature of weather is more than well documented. Talk about drought, what about the "dust bowl" years? And that was long before carbon emissions became a problem. It just seems, to me at least, that any deviation from "normal" becomes a matter of national importance and a crisis when those deviations happen, and have been happening since time began, all the time on a world wide basis. To top it all off both NOAA and NASA have been caught fudging the historical numbers.
Oooh that looks right up my alley, Thank you Sandy!
Question, When you were reading through all those books, did you sometimes get lost in the story? I know if I took up that job, that I would have to go through each book a few times to makes sure I didn't forget to correct something.![]()
Mostly, I could comprehend the story, which was important in case there were inconsistencies in the plot, and still find errors. I usually liked to read the book twice, though, to pick up any errors that I had missed on the first reading. I tried reading a book 3 times, but I never found enough additional errors to warrant that much more time spent on it.
One good thing about not having that job anymore is that now I can read books I want to read, not just books I was hired to read, whether I'd choose to read them or not. And I read a lot of books I'd never have chosen to read, too. And after working for hours at reading, I never read for fun, which was a great loss to me for many years. I really liked having that kind of work, but there are certainly benefits to not doing it anymore. I guess that's true of any job a person really likes.
I am going through a major rewrite. I have cut it to a bit more than three hundred pages. I have set aside some of my research for later use.
My allergies were causing brain-fog, and I decided to live with brain-fog because of fear of publication. Since moving, I have been on a rampage to eliminate allergens.
