Hey, Lizzie. A tip from shooting myself in the foot. If you can, and assuming you have a network, hardwired or WiFi, printer, set the IP address on the printer to a fixed address if you can. When I switched to the new WiFi router I re-did the network addressing here. As an expedient, I set the printer to DHCP, automatically get an IP address. Everything was fine, until I took the network down to move the security cameras, then the addresses all changed when I powered it back up and the printer configurations on the PCs went south. Now, it's a fixed address.

I know you probably won't have to take your WiFi down, but power failures can do the same kinds of things.

Your scaring me, awsum. I don't want to watch movies on my tablet, I want to send them to the tv.

One glitch is that the chromecast controller won't work on my older phone not my fire tablet also older.

I found a galaxy tab 4 with big screen and 16 gigabytes for $200 at best buy.

Hubby has a galaxy that does work to control the chromecast so that is good.

OK, that's cool. Both of us have a Tab4. What can I say, it's a tablet, ho hum. I'm still trying to figure out why I bought them, same with the smartphone. They're nice enough but way too limited for my tastes. Let me know how you like the Chromecast, although I'm not much of a Google/Android fan either. I'd love to "cut the cable" but haven't found anything that meets what we generally watch and still keep the price down at a "reasonable" level.

According to my mom, all the single men her age want to just sit around doing nothing. Mom was looking for a fella to just hang out and go places with but they were "fuddy duddies" (her terminology). Its been eight years since my daddy passed away and now she finally found her a fella. She is 58 and he is 45, She's all giggly and jokingly calls herself a 'cougar'. I'm so happy for her, but first I have to meet her fella so he can pass "the children inspection" :D

I'm severely over protective of my mama, especially after her being treated like garbage right after my daddy died, by my adopted brother and sister. :-x:-x:-x:-x

It's probably true, Celti. A lot of guys sit on the couch and watch TV. It's sad.

    Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

Well, I'm crafting a brief resignation letter for the co-op that says that I regret that I have to resign from the board due to personal reasons. My family has to come first. I find I have neither the time nor the energy to continue due to extenuating circumstances.

I do have another option that talks about the problems with me being treasurer but decided the better option is just to blame my family/husband so that they won't have a way to say things like okay don't be treasurer but stay on the board.

    I want out.

    'moanin, Volties.

We're getting the leaf phenomenon as well. I think it's a combination of dry conditions and changing season since a lot of them are still green. We did get some rain, yesterday, and that will help a bit. At least the grass/weeds won't be crunchy.

    Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

I successfully disengaged from the board of the water co-op yesterday. I am so relieved. It went well and I left on good terms. I urged them to talk to the nice lady who knows all about bookkeeping and I told them I would give her a gift certificate for to a pizza place for her troubles since I realized she thought she would be working with me and I, unfortunately, wouldn't be able to be treasurer any more.

They are basically a nice group of people but the relief I feel at not having to be treasurer is huge.

I am driving to the bank today to get my name off the signature card.

I'm home. We are experimenting with streaming tv stuff. We are trying some apps. Pop time looks awesome but we haven't used it yet. We are going to try a movie tonight.

So far, awsum, the picture quality is sometimes not good but youtube isn't about video quality. A lot of the Amazon prime video seems to look pretty good.

There is actually lots of movies to watch and a fair number of TV shows although some are a few years old. I've always wanted to watch Empire,

it looks like you have to create a VPN account to use pop corn time and that costs something. It's all very confusing without satellite:) I guess I am learning as I go.

    'evenin, Voltavillians.

I think you made the right decision with the co-op, Lizzie. Getting out before something goes wrong, given their "leadership", is probably a good thing.

Streaming, for us, wasn't bad but that was with a 30mbps broadband connection. We had full, 1080p HD pictures. Yeah, there's lots of stuff available, for free, and some stuff that isn't too expensive, but it just didn't meet what we were looking for. So far, only a few days in, Comtrash isn't too bad at all. We have the "Xfinity" package with a DVR, which is OK IF you find something worth recording, but the remote is the best part of the whole deal. The DVR feature does let you go back with whatever you're watching if you miss something, which is kind of handy at times.

We're both fans of "Alex Cross" and the whole series of movies. We kept starting to watch a new one actually titled "Alex Cross" but never got to see the end of it. I just pressed the mike button on the remote, said "Alex Cross" into it, and got the movie up on screen. Hard to beat that. If we set a reminder on the living room TV, it also shows up on the bedroom TV so no trying to guess what channel we were watching. Nice little feature.

Yeah, I'm sure we are going to miss a couple of shows from satellite but it looks like we [when I say we, I mean me, Hubby doesn't care about Project Runway:) ] can get Project Runway for free on Lifetime. We shall see, I'm waiting to see if they want money:)

It isn't as convenient but the Chromecast dongle makes shooting videos to the TV pretty easy either from the computer or from the tablet. Oh yeah, you have to use Chrome browser on the computer to Chromecast but you just use your apps on the tablet.

I'm happy to be out of the co-op board, at this point, although proud of myself for helping them start to get a handle on being more professional.

Good morning Volties. A buddy just dropped a semi cut up tree in my yard that looks like a cord of firewood more or less when it's split and racked. Just when I was about to catch up on my yard work lol. Hard to think about firewood when you're still having triple digit heat indexes but it's got to dry some before it gets burned. Looks like I'll be busy for the rest of the day lolz. Hope everybody has a wonderful Thursday

You will enjoy that wood this winter, Wuzz! Hubby has more wood to split and stack but he is busy swapping out the axles on his old Chevy shortbed 4-wheeler.

Looks like 61 and windy today so we are going to town. Tomorrow will be nicer so we will work outside tomorrow.

I have to use Chrome now instead if Internet Explorer. I hate change:) I had to sign into a bunch of stuff so what a pain. Chromecast only works in Chrome so I am making the change. I did find a cool program that let's you put "buttons" on the screen for your favorite items.

I just took down a maple tree - it got hit by lightning a few months ago - nobody wanted the wood and I always thought maple was a good burning wood. I kept part of the trunk for hobby projects down the road...

    'moanin, Volties.

I harvested the weeds/grass/leaves yesterday and it looked pretty good out there when I got done. More leaves fell overnight, oh well. Laundry is done and I'm finishing my second cup before I got back outside and battle Mother Nature again today.

Maple is decent fire wood, Semi. I was surprised to find out that locust is the preferred firewood of moonshiners. Very low smoke from it so more of a "low profile". I wish I had a source, reliable source, for firewood. Sure, it's a lot of work but that work is a great, full body, workout and you can save a few bucks on heating costs.

I have a problem with all things Google. I'm stuck with Android, a Google product, on my phone and tablet, but I absolutely refuse to install Chrome or any other Google product on any of my PCs. They are so intrusive it is beyond the pale to me. I'll bet you let them into your contact lists, cookie lists, browsing history and how often you visit the restroom, including how many sheets you use while there, with what you agreed to, Lizzie.

As if that isn't enough, a recent court decision allows the FBI to hack into any computer/table/phone they want to. Warrants and probable cause seem to have been bypassed in this one.

I know, I'm a dinosaur and I'm quite happy being one. The age of the internet seems to also be the age of the end of privacy. Sometimes I wonder if people just don't care about what they are giving up or a just oblivious to the whole thing. Ignorance can be blissful.

Yea, I was surprised nobody wanted the Maple.

I don't use chrome either. I use Firefox. I also use start page for my home page. No gathering of info and if you do a search it sends it to Google for you and returns the result. Google knows the search, but not who...
