Hey all,

I promised I would bring a review of this mod once I thought it I had enough experience with it, and I gotta say I am still very impressed. You can now get this device from CDN Vapor, Onestopeshoppe, Canadian Electronics Vapor and NicFitNation as well however I am unsure how limited their stock is right now. I will do my best to cover all the bases for you all.

The CDN Vapor VV mod/ NFN Knight Rider/ Lavatube/ Mod V

Design

The mod is mostly all black, with a red LCD screen that is illuminated whenever you hit the "+" "-" or on/off button. The "+" and "-" buttons are silver versus the power button which is red as well and the switch is low profile and the same black colour as the rest of the body.

This mod will NOT work with standard 18650 batteries due to their length and must work with either the stock batteries that come with the unit or nipple-less AW IMR high drains. The batteries that come with the device are 1600 mah IMR High Drains. The threads are awfully rough and require some noalox to take away that gritty feeling. As with most devices it has a 510 threading and will work with any 510 or 306 carto/ atomizer.

Function

This mod is really quite simple in design and that is a very appealing aspect of this mod. Some of the button functions include;

On/Off - By pressing and holding the red on/off button for 5 seconds you can turn the device both on or off depending on it's current state. By simply tapping this button once you can illuminate the LCD screen to see where your voltage is set.

7 Press Battery Indicator - By tapping the on/off button 7 times you can see the current voltage of your battery. 4.2 volts is a full charge and 3.3 volts is considered an empty charge, so the mod will shut off to protect from under charging the battery and doing damage to it.

Voltage Lock/ Unlock - By simply holding the "+" and "-" button together for 6 seconds you can lock or unlock your current voltage setting. If you leave your device unlocked, every time you remove the battery for replacement the mod will reset back down to 3.0 volts. However, if you lock your voltage and replace the battery it will remember the last setting you have used and NOT reset the device. (I LOVE that feature)

Voltage Change - This one is fairly obvious, if you press "+" it will turn up the voltage by .1 every time and if you press "-" it will turn down the voltage. The device is also capable of 3.0 to 6 volts and has a loop around function so that if you are the end of the voltage line at 3 or 6 volts you can simply hit the button again and cycle back at 3 or 6 volts (saves a LOT of screwing around). You have to hit the button every time though as holding it down will not scroll through the voltage at all.

Something you may not know is that you can press "+" or "-" while the device is being activated to crank the voltage up or down "Mid-Haul". If you do decide to adjust the voltage while vaping the backlight on your LCD screen will not be activated like it would otherwise though, so keep that in mind.

Durability

I have dropped this device twice already because I am accident prone and own animals who like to run around and play (hitting the coffee table and knocking EVERYTHING flying all over the place :p ) and it hasn't even got a scratch. I'm sure if you dropped it from too high of a surface that it could do some damage and you should always avoid dropping any device on concrete or asphalt, but at the price of the unit if such a thing happens it is not going to be the end of the world to replace it. There is no rattling, is not easy to scratch and feels solid in the hand.

Something to watch out for though is getting juice inside the switch. There is a big enough gap to allow juice inside the device and would certainly have a chance of shorting the unit out.

My overall opinion

This is a very straight forward, easy to use device that even grandpa could understand. It's lightweight, smaller than it seems in pictures and works every time. I couldn't be any more impressed with my purchase and will eventually be getting myself a backup unit just to have. The price is right, the function is great and it suits my VV needs perfectly!

I recommend this device to anyone who is looking into stepping into the world of Variable Voltage mods but doesn't know if it is for them yet, this is far from a beginners device and more of a moderately experienced to expert vapers device, so keep that in mind all you newbies!

Thank you for reading and I hope this covers all of the bases! Vape free people! :2cool:

Very nice review. Sounds promising. Ordered one about an hour ago from Cdnvapor. Can't wait for the mailman now.

Yeah, it's a good product. There's no documentation for it, which is kind of weird. The batteries aren't labelled, so while you would assume you're getting 18650 Li-ion batteries plus a charger, it would have been nice to have to documentation to show what you're getting. Especially if you've got a nicer charger that you'd like to put your batteries in once you've established what batteries you've gotten. If you've got AW IMR 18650 batteries, you can use those with no problems. (Although Trustfire 18650's may be too long for the device).

The other weird thing is that you basically get a complete kit except for a drip tip or atomizer cartridge. Why would they bundle everything else in and leave that last little bit out?

I'm not really sure why they would include everything but the instructions and a drip tip really. Quality mod though and if these were Li-ion batts they wouldn't work very well considering the limited amps available for that batt chemistry. I guess the manu assumes that you have all of this anyway and need a charger for their batts and a couple higher res atties.

Really it's meant for the intermediate to expert vaper anyway.

I just got mine on Wednesday, and am thoroughly impressed with it. Thanks for your review Noiz, as seeing as it didn't come with a manual you have pointed out some very important functions that I otherwise wouldn't have known about (ie: the ability to "lock" in your preferred voltage, which is a fantastic feature!). I am curious to learn more about the batteries though, and which (if any) other 18650's (Trust Fires) will fit in the unit. More research to do I guess.
All in all though, a very solid, impressive vv!

Ah, well all 18650 batteries are supposed to be 65 millimeters in length, but apparently there's some variation. It ships with flat-top batteries, but it turns out the button-top AW IMR batteries are exactly the same length. The battery tube won't really accommodate batteries that are much longer as the end-cap threads go right up to the end of the battery. I don't have a large collection of 18650 batteries (I only need a couple), so I couldn't say which ones the thing might have trouble with. If you have the choice, I'd recommend AW batteries anyway.

Another thing to mention is that the end cap has no vent hole if there's a problem with the battery.

I've got a Liquinator on mine. If you're handy with a Dremel, you could always buy the MadVapes tank cartomizer cheaply and then Dremel slots on your favourite stainless steel cartomizer.

    VaporEssence has a video:

You might also be interested in a MAP (Ce2) tank.

Thanks bobsyeruncle (I actually have an Uncle Bob btw, lol, random useless FYI) I know of both of those tanks but have heard the Liquinator customer service is the biggest drawback and the MAP tank uses CE2's and I am not a huge fan of them. I do however really enjoy my Vision clearo but no tanks are really on the market for them yet as far as I know.

The only flaw with a Vision seems to be the cold.. I get a lot more dry hits once my 50/50 juice has been exposed to the temp and this isn't the visions fault it is just the nature of things.

Really I think I am going to get a DCT and use it on my Icon with AW 14500's. I like dual coil cartos already and even though everything is proprietary with the DCT it is cheaper than the VPX by miles.

I wonder how these tanks will hold up to the winter cold wicking-wise but I assume that the cold weather will mean I have to drip no matter what... Just like last year and the year before that lol.

just ordered mine a few mins ago from cdnvapor, hope the device works out better then my kgo-t, works good sometime but floods alot, out of a tank of juice half of it has to be blown out of the atty. also gona try their xtream 3.5ml led cartomizer

I'm sure you will love the mod and the Xtream, both are solid imo. I hope you got the 2.8 ohm version of the Xtream though as LR is not suited for the LavaTube.

Well, I don't know if DCT is exactly proprietary. If you can slide out the carto, I would think you could replace it with your own 510 or 808 carto. It looks like SmokTech makes carto tanks, so I wonder if it's the same one as the MadVapes offering.

I actually managed ok with Vaporescence. I had to wait over a month for regular parcel service to arrive at my doorstep. And then I was missing a connection adapter I ordered. Sent off an e-mail, got a reply the next day and everything was good. I've heard there were problems with the seals leaking after a short while, but so far I've been doing ok with this thing.

As far as the "Uncle Bob" thing goes, it seems a few members here have one. And he's the relative they'd prefer not to talk about.
