i believe they have tried to come up with alternatives, but haven't found anything to my knowledge.
I have a mouse infestation that I dealing with in the house and was advised to get some steel wool to fill the holes around the holes around the house... can you see where this is leading?
Anyway I was looking for some steel wool on ebay and found some stuff called Professional steel wool that is very fine grade and thin with no oil residue. It is called Liberon steel wool, grade 0000. For about 5 quid which include posteage I have gotten 100g of the stuff which I thought would be small, but is actually humongous.
Anyway I have since managed to clear the mice with some humane traps (caught 6 of them in total), however the wool came today by post and the first thing I though was to try and replace the wool in my cart with some of this stuff. So far it is fantastic and doing the trick. It seems finer than the wool in teh cart and much finer than the atomiser mesh.
I've cut a nice piece out and I am hoping that I can use it without having to recondition it as much as the fish tank filter stuff.
I'll give you all an update after a few days to tell you how it's going.

Not sure if there are different grades of steel wool, but this definitely made me think twice about using it!

I'm not sure I'd like the "cleaning" my lungs would get. 8-o
Another thing to bear in mind with using steel wool as the filler, is that even if it withstands the atomiser temperatures and doesn't spontaneously combust, it is still very conductive. Any juice in the cart will get heated a lot quicker as the wool heats up and therefore be more likely to evaporate more quickly.
The ideal would be something preferably less conductive than steel like cotton wool, or some other natural fibre only with a higher melting point... I researched ceramic fibre which can withstand extremely hot temps, but this is apparently carcinogenic when inhaled. 8-o
Silicon is another one and probably similar to what's currently in our ecig carts...

Still early days, the wool has not combusted or anything like that.
Cig seems to smoke ok though and the steel wool is very absorbant.
Will try this out for a bit and see what happens.

It's just steel wool used for polishing and cleaning. The stuff I got is made by a company called Liberon and is virtually oil free.
I tried vaping contunuously to empty a cart out from being full to see if I could get the steel wool and atmomiser to heat up lots but it's still all good right now.
I do notice a slight metallic taste with some juices but I hope that will fade over time(also crossing fingers that I am not killing myself too much).
I did read somewhere that people use this wool as tinder and sending electricity through it does ignite it as per video. I took some wool and tried to burn it with a match last night as well and it does burn to some extent but then stop burning.
I would not recommend using this stuff right now though, although I am still happy to keep trying this for a while to see what happens.

I see no difference with the original catridges, its just perfect even better as you can adjust how much you put in the catridge, and with some cigs it really makes the difference

I'm not sure if I missed it but, is poly-fill used for stuffing pillows and such the same as what is in our carts currently?
