Our side is way too small to be heard in the big picture. I cant really fault them. It's just not an issue that is viewed as "important". I never expected our voice to sway public. Unfortunately it's not realistic to expect otherwise.

Similar stuff was said in Germany in 1933....

This just popped up. Vaping teens more apt to move on to regular cigarettes: U.S. study The only good part is Dr. Siegel at the end.
I am actually not surprised at all by this finding. These are the kids who would've tried cigarettes regardless of whether they had a puff from an ecig a few times, or not. Corelation, not causation.

When the researchers looked at teens who said on the first survey that they had no intention to smoke, the risk of moving from e-cigarettes to regular cigarettes by the next year was 10 times greater than those who never vaped.

Barrington-Trimis said the high risk among teens committed to not smoking "suggests this is not just occurring among kids who intended to smoke anyway."

Trimis' conclusion is a non-sequitur. Whether a teen says 'they have no intention to smoke' does not determine if indeed they go on to smoke or not ( You don't believe me, ask Miley Cyrus how the purity ring worked out for her ). All it means is that nine out of the ten teens who broke their non-smoking vow, had tried e-cigarettes as well, not that ecig use led to cigarette use.

I sent an email to the author:

"I realize you just report the news and vaping is a hot topic right now, but I urge you to consider an article focused on adult ex-smokers impacted by the FDA deeming regulations. In the rush to “Protect the Children” people like myself are being ignored.

"I smoked for 40 years, up to 1.5 packs a day the last 5 or so. After many unsuccessful attempts to quit, I gave up. It was just too damaging to my self-esteem, although being a smoker was depressing too. Smokers are one of the last minorities it is not only acceptable, but encouraged, for the public to marginalize and disrespect. Many consider smokers to be weak and morally inferior. I suppose an upside to my addition is that I helped some people feel good about themselves."

Of course, being me, the email was several pages long and had citations.

Yep, I see it as justification for what Calif. has done regarding their new petty tobacco laws. I only posted it here to warn about the onslaught of articles likely to come out tomorrow. The only problem is, the hopelessly uninformed are going to believe this steaming pile of BS.

You rock Spotted Puddytat! :)

BTW, if you put butter/marg on the area of the flying dart (hummer) feeder where the bees/wasps land, they will go away. Same goes for the wire the feeder hangs from to keep the ants away. Not sure about where you live but our darts hang around all year and if you quit feeding them they may die. I've been bawled out by angry darts with an empty feeder during a blizzard. Just so you are fairly warned. Honestly, they do get seriously POed. :)

In other news...

This is by the same author as the other Reuters article. Marijuana use by adults tied to few physical health problems

Yeah i know, what we need is competent science correspondents at both print and on-line journals, you know the type who can critically evaluate a press release, not the junior writer on staff.

No kidding. The Reuters guy is just paraphrasing press releases, but who knows, maybe he'll want to write a breakout article.

I have no idea how to email or even post a link. Got a dentist apt this morning, when I get back I'll start googling how to send a link.

Dentist - icky! I hope it's not too bad.

You don't need to Google anything, I'll post the steps after I make some coffee.

Ok, so from most of what I have read, the vast majority of these regs apply to marketing/retail/resale of ENDS.

Do this mean a private individual can still do whatever they want for their own use?

If I build a Mod, can I give it to my Brother?

I find it hard to believe that there's a crackdown coming on the DIY aspects of this industry since there's so few of us that engage in it anyway as compared to vapers as a whole. Heck, it's legal to grow your own tobacco for personal use.

Inevitably supply constraints and excessive taxes will drive many into DIY. And that suggests DIY will be scrutinized and regulated to the extent they can. This is all unprecedented in terms of banning what is mostly basic consumer and industrial products.
