I don't think it's that simple. Some career politicians are actually in it because they believe in making this country better.

Also, like any other job, learning how to do the job takes time. When a person's contract is only 4 years, you may not want them spending the first 3 years learning how things work.

2. Show me a politician who leaves office lighter in the wallet when they leave office than when they entered, I'll show you a public servant. Elective office is a ticket to wealth.
2. Basic right and wrong is an issue. If misusing campaign funds, exempting oneself from the laws passed, using one's influence to advance one's wealth, selling one's integrity to the highest bidding interest group or lobby (to give just four) is not a right/wrong issue, then I despair.

Certainly you need to have a grasp of the procedures required to fulfill your duties in office. In addition, they certainly do get plenty of talking points supplied by their party leadership. Occasionally, we do see legislators who are actually influenced by their constituency and act accordingly (we saw that yesterday). But really, these folks don't just walk in blind to the process and procedure. Unfortunately, they are frequently captured by process and procedure, as well as party policies.
