I'd Love to Run the FDA. Just not sure how Effective I would be?

Have "dry as dust sarcasm" coupled with Sharp Elbows can sometimes be a Bad combination for a Government Department Head.

My only government career advice is that based on observation, the less you do the longer you seem to remain in the position. So sit back, enjoy some rounds of golf, and think about the big government pension you'll get. Guaranteed path to success.

I wish Zoid WAS the FDA commissioner.

The sanity that would begin to gush forth... Not just ecigs either :(

Think he can refuse the millions of $$ of bribery money? Zoid likes yachts and skimpily-clad chicks in grass skirts as much as the next guy. :)

I'd like to know what the "other part" is. How does it get better than chicks in skimpily-clad grass skirts?

Unlimited access to any Prescription Drug. 1st Class Airfare to tour the USA going to "Conferences". And a slightly used EPA Cone-of-Silence to name a few.

Look who doesn't like a girl in a grass or nothing else skirt? Not gonna lie, there are times I enjoy the idea of dudes in loincloths feeding me grapes and fanning me using those giant fans from like, palm trees and whatnot.

But, I like vaping more. LOL. Hopefully Zoid, (once appointed) (and I do have some reasonable political contacts although both are democrats but let me know) likes vaping MORE.

I know I do. I bet getting fanned while eating grapes is no fun whatsoever... Without my vapes.

Aren't those trips considered fact finding missions? That's the excuse Congress always uses.

See this is why they would kill me. I would announce my regulation changes, then they would bribe me with the money, yachts, and women, but then I would still push my policy through anyway. When they came back demanding I change things because they paid me to, I would reply "No, and go ahead and please report me for NOT letting your bribe affect policy. Good luck with that".

As a responsible leader you would have to test all the ecigs yourself. You should order them to get you 3 of every mod and tank. And a bottle of every juice on the market. You could have the girls in grass skirts bring you the mods on silver Mara Largo trays.

No Zoid's dead. too. You need someone with less integrity or at least far more craftiness.

I stand READY to be the Cleopatra of the FDA. It is kind of apt also because I know like, a whole TON about meds. More than many docs in some areas. I will free the floodgates and release STABLON (a French antidepressant whose only side effect is it will improve your asthma if you have it) and it works THE reverse of SSRIs, it DOWNREGULATES serotonin. Trust the French but all that stuff YEAH free to the USA.

I'm going to need some loyal foot soldiers/lovers to die in my place (I'm going to blame you, is how it will work). I also promise not to poison anyone nice.

I will "regulate" Ecigs by making sure all batteries are authentic, and that shops know enough to sell a mod (or maybe the user AND the shop take a short test on battery safety.)

BUT THAT's IT. Even the IQOS gets in. I do not approve. but I will be CLEOPATRA and like, she's picky.

Hmm.... This is sounding like I need to eat something.

Most importantly, you get to wear cool outfits in your new FDA kingdom!

And no mention of the many reported instances of young people having seizures after not using e-cigs. Clearly we can't say for certain that the failure to use e-cigs was the cause of these seizures, but we should definitely launch a scientific investigation into the dangers of not vaping.

I wasn't able to figure out anything about where this information came from. It could have been a solid piece of research but what I've read so far is seriously flimsy.

The WSJ ran an article a few days ago about Dr Gottlieb's annoyance at Walgreens for selling cigarettes unlike CVS which stopped in 2014.
The paper also ran several editorials in the past about the cozy relationship between the FDA and CVS to the detriment of smaller pharmacies. To be fair, they didn't link the two.

While few of us have any sympathy for BT, this is how things work in Washington. CVS likes selling patches, and being smiled upon by the bureaucracy.
Rewards for the compliant.

I think this is Something that the FDA/Media is going to try to Quietly sweep under the rug.

Because it May unearth some trends that Many would Not Like talked about. And might cast some Doubt on a very Political Issue which has been gaining Momentum over the last 4 or 5 Years.

It is Also something I need to Dance Lightly with. Because we are Not Supposed to discuss it here on the ECF.

The FDA has a system for compiling adverse drug reactions. One way outside the traditional medical path is a toll free number for anyone to report a problem with a drug. No evidence the drug caused the problem, but nonetheless it's logged. Patterns can turn up that way sooner and isn't a terrible idea.

What was clear was they know of 35 cases reported of a seizure occurring in someone who vaped. A few occurred while using illicit drugs as noted in the press release. There is no indication of any other medical history like having a preexisting seizure disorder. It's also not clear what was even being vaped. Even the notice stated there was insufficient evidence to tie the seizures to the vaping, simply that there were these reports. If they get a lot of that particular complaint I expect they'll look into it in more detail. We're upset because it involves vaping, but the statement could easily be made about Advil as the data collection is essentially the same.

I expect if they get more such phone calls they will dig further into the medical episodes and obtain more detailed information. What is simply called in on the adverse reaction phone line isn't proof of causation or even correlation. All they note is very high levels of nicotine can cause seizures as I an overdose (not nic sick). Maybe someone drank a bottle and it wasn't vaped. No one knows. I suggest to see what happens before panic ensues. Of course the general public doesn't get that, but that's a separate issue.
