A post-Vapocalypse post to cheer you all up! ;)

Anti-Tobacco Crusader Stanton Glantz Retires Suddenly - Vaping360

"@Clive_Bates: Professor Stanton A Glantz @ProfGlantz has retired from @UCSF, with immediate effect. No reason given. It should have happened years ago - many lives would have been saved. And much else."

Good riddance.

There Isn’t One Single Person on this Planet that has Done More to Negatively Impact e-Cigarettes and THR Policies than Slantz.

Be it through the abuse of his position as a Principle Investigator for the NIH tobacco Regulatory Science Program. Or from the Non-Stop Parade of Overtly Biased and in Many Cases Blatantly False “Studies”. Or from the Constant Litany of False and Misleading Statements he has made to Policy Makers, the Media, and the General Public.

And even after Numerous High Profile Publication Retractions, and Multiple Lawsuits involving Sexual Misconduct and Professional Ethics Violations, Slantz’s influence is still used as a Justification for e-Cigarette/e-liquid Restrictions and Bans on the Local and State Level across the Country. As well as with the WHO and with other Nations Health Policies.

His Departure from UCSF was Too Long in the Coming. And the Damage that Slantz has done will be Felt for Years to come.

Because Slantz is a Malignant Cancer that has Not Only Tarnished the name of UCSF. But also the Scientific Research Community in General.

Mission accomplished?

There was no mission. Nothing was accomplished. He disgraced himself, his institution, and his colleagues. His departure at this time will make no difference whatsoever. Too little too late. Read @zoiDman 's post above.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This came up earlier:

The FD&C Act does not exempt tobacco products imported for personal use from applicable requirements for tobacco product imports.

Importing and Exporting

The argument (which Dimitri makes) is that personal-use importation of tobacco products is not prohibited in the TCA (it's not even addressed, I think).

But I am of the opinion that importation rules and regulations (laws?) trump the TCA's failure to address personal importation, if for no other reason that regulation has been in place before the TCA (at least I'm pretty sure it was because I'm fairly certain tobacco importation has been regulated way before deeming was even a thing).

Yes it is.

"The bill makes no provisions that ban the import of the banned items for personal consumption, only for "sale or distribution." (Division A Title II Section 201 [14])."

OK. So where is the list of "tobacco products" that cannot be sold in the US (domestically or imported)? A whole bunch of them can be sold while the PMTAs are under review. Per their own rules. So how is anyone to know what can be sold or bought?

Uncertainty is an arrow in the quiver of the ruling class.

How many filed PMTAs to buy time?
I expect most all except for the really big players. Much of what I've seen submitted will ultimately be rejected based on date on the market or other criteria.

For some, I think their PMTA investment may be in hope that the rules relax or change during that review period. Others may have calculated that the additional sales during the review period justifies the cost to submit.

Those that get initially accepted have up to 12 months of continued sales before the FDA says no. The clock is ticking.

Many sites seem to be operating as if nothing has changed. I've been to a number of vendor sites I've used in the past and tested putting an order in through checkout, stopping at the last step, with no restriction. Looks like many are playing this out until they're stopped or out of stock. Sell through violations be damned!
