I wrote the journalist, Sean, a letter. Probably won't help but there's a tiny chance that he's a journalist.

"Can I convince you to change the title of your article on the dangers of "vape batteries"? The CPSC doesn't call out vaping in any way. Additionally, vaping is not the primary use of 18650 batteries or the most common application effected by their dangers. I rang a large local distributor to get my thinking straight before writing you, and found through a subject matter expert that flashlights outstrip vaping as the primary use by quite a margin. A call to other large 18650 battery distributors such as those carrying LG, Sony are likely to yield this more accurate data for your article.

As an aside, vaping is one of those adult choices that is under scrutiny by governing bodies across the globe. Despite ones personal opinion about the act, many adults that chose vaping over smoking now cannot. Personal choice is a wonderful thing, as is empathy for the businesses and people deeply involved in the issue."

Tiny is probably overstating it. There are no unbiased journalists anymore.

    Somewhere between here and there
That is ridiculous in my opinion. So are they going to stop all the flashlight dealers from selling batteries for the flashlights they sell. I’m not telling them but more and more vaping devices are coming out that use 21700 batteries. Are they then going to outlaw those? They can bite me!

The Control Monster has been unleashed, unmasked, and is in full swing. I can't even... :|

Vape batteries can cause deadly explosions, consumer safety agency warns

"[CPSC] is working with e-commerce sites like eBay to remove listings of loose 18650 cells"

It's only a matter of time before the USA introduces legislation to outlaw the sale of these batteries to end-users. I think it was here on ECF that I read Samsung has been lobbying for this and possibly has already been introduced in a bill at least once.

I'm thinking this one may be a result of more recent events ('nuff said and I'm S'ingTFU now).

I'd like to know what event(s) that is. You can PM it to me if you wish.

Not being snide - I mean more like "hopeful" as MY response.

The FDA deeming crap, pretty much as they see fit, without any logic or debate, IS the issue to take to court. I'd like to sue them just for requiring that someone label a plastic box with a battery in it as a "tobacco product".

Makes about as much sense as receiving a drip tip or coils with a label saying "This product contains nicotine".

    I don't think so.

Do someone even make drip tips or coils with nicotine?

This graphically highlights the stupidity that has taken over the FDA when it comes to vaping.

Just when you think you've stocked up on everything you'll need to keep vaping for the rest of your life, it's time to buy a few decades' worth of batteries.
Probably not even possible to keep them for that long. And 'they' know it.

18650’s are too widely used for too many applications to be banned.

Sure, maybe on less regulated marketplaces like eBay, but not legitimate electronics websites.

I’d imagine the high-end/EDC flashlight community alone is responsible for the majority share in “loose” aka single 18650 battery sales.

Good grief, don't put a loose battery in your pocket with your loose coins, you ......

Anti-vaping articles disappeared for many months, replaced with anti-Trump articles or be-scared-of-corona articles. Now that the Donald has been shot, or shot himself, your choice, and the Biden will attempt something authoritarian and then not long afterward declare victory over corona, I suppose the anti-vaping stuff will begin again. Gotta sell those newspapers.

The consumer market for such batteries is minuscule compared to the commercial/industrial market. The bulk of 18650 (and other sizes) sales are made to OEM manufacturers who make power packs and other such commercial and industrial customers.

I'm talking about legislation banning their sale to consumers.

However, even if they don't or can't ban them for consumer sale, they can just pressure the merchant banks to deem them "high risk products" and therefore Paypal will be forced to drop all 18650 B2C merchants (aka 18650batterystore, imrbatteries, liionwholesale, etc, etc, etc). Then these merchants' merchant account providers will drop them and cause them to seek high risk merchant accounts to take credit cards directly (higher fees). This is exactly what happened to the ecig market as well as many other markets before it. This would actually be favorable because at least they would still be available to us.

However, what could also happen is these retailers' insurance companies could deny liability coverage if they sell direct to consumers. You don't need laws to ban things. You can use banks and insurance companies to do the work for you.

my above post [29273] was edited by I don't know whom or what. Where the elipsis (the three dots) is I had written ".....".
Is "....." a word which is illegal or offensive?
Just wondering, so I can behave myself in the future.

ECF has filters in place to censor certain expletives automatically upon submission of your post. "...." replaces the filtered word. It happens automatically an immediately.

I'll post the word s-h-*-t below

    ....

    see?

    LOL. LOL.
Ok, I'll spell it backwards "norom".
I still have the same questions regarding the use of this word.

Yeah, that's strange that that word is in the filter list.

Keep in mind that circumventing filters is against rules of the forum. Best to just use another word or use the :censored: icon.

It was a grammatical error. What happened is that you repeated yourself, unnecessarily. The word ... is synonymous with someone who "puts a loose battery in your pocket with your loose coins". ;- )

I thought it was strange too. It's not as if it's an expletive. No more than "stupid" is. Perhaps that will get deleted.
