Eheim filterpad mod

I'm using the Marineland sleeves in a u-size as well. Bought a pack of three at my local pet store. They wick amazingly, but after a few hits I start to get a plastic/synthetic taste.

Maybe I need to try a PV that doesn't run as hot as the 510. Any advice on another model? I really like the hit I get from a 510, but am noticing that it does seem to heat up the various cart fillers I have tried. I've even tried three different attys, all the same result.

I've heard good things about the 801, but don't own one. I really don't want to dump the $$$ into a Janty stick or SD.

I haven't noticed a chemical taste or change in juice flavor, but there have been a couple people that have. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I rinsed mine out really good when I first got it.

I use it on a 510 as well, and usually have the foam come up about 1/8" short of the end of the cart. I think you are fine at 1/16". One thing that might make a difference is the atomizer. I am using the "new" (knock-off) style atomizers I got from IV. They no longer sell them though due to some apparent problems. Anyway, perhaps these run cooler? They are also high-bridge, which may be cooler at the bridge tip.

I have also been experimenting with the brass screen mod (or maybe even stainless steel). So far I find it to be close to the blue foam in performance, although it seems a bit more prone to leaking. Just a thought for those out there looking for something easy that works good, who are afraid of the blue foam. The brass screen mod isn't as easy as the blue foam, but it seems easier than the PTB mod (and should last longer IMO). There are some concerns on the choice of brass for a cart filler, but stainless steel should be an option too.

i have been using the foam for a week and half now and works great. i actually cut it longer about 1/4 inch longer and stuff it in my 510 and 401 that way it still touches the atty. i tried the folding it in half and then stuffing but that didnt wick well. it does empty very well and with all mods just dont over fill and it wont leak. for me i just still notice the loss of flavor and throat hit after about half way through a cart but it does last a loooong time. the vapor is still always there and it is very clear when its empty cuz my vapor dissapears! refilling is way easier and now i actually refill carts and dont have to carry a bottle or bottles!:D

Not really, though I imagine the lower the voltage/smaller the battery, the less heat you'll put through your atomizer-- and the lower your hit and less your vapor will be. :| You could try one of the sub-90mm models like a 403, an 8084, or an L88b (I use a blu, which I know has a poor reputation, but it's actually very capable for such a small device if you treat it right), but I think you'd look at it as a major step down from the 510.

I've heard that the 901 has good flavor, so maybe that system doesn't heat the atomizer so much?

[EDIT] Forgot to ask, have you been rinsing the foam before using it? I always rinse it under hot water for a good chunk of time before I dry it and stuff it in the cart.

I bought some of this marineland blue foam today after hearing all of the success stories from people having the same problems I have with my 510 (wicking, fibers in atty, etc). And I have to say that this stuff is the ****!!!! Im using just the foam, no poly or PTB on top and I have no leakage of flooding (so far). THANK GOD!!!! I was soooo tired of dripping every time I wanted to vape and now, all problems are solved!!!!! Everyone needs this!!!!

Hi there, I'm the one who re-vived this thread and now I have a question for the 810 users! I bought 1 801 atty to try the bigger carts but all I get is leak, leak, leak! How are you cutting the foam for these larger carts? I never get leakage on my 510 but can't seem to find the right size for the 801. Obviously, I'm not cutting a large enough piece. I'll work on it more today, just don't like wasting juice.

I think I need to wash the sponge a bit longer. I dont think I did a real good job of it the first time. I'll do that tomorrow and report back with my findings. Hoping for some better results.

Okay, well, after a few days, I'm starting to come over to your side of the fence. On my third day using the same filters, I started noticing an aftertaste in all three of the liquids I was vaping-- not terrible, sort of like the PG aftertaste (I was using all-VG liquids), but troubling nonetheless.

It's possible that it wasn't the filters at all, but just something about my taste buds at the time-- but I pulled out the filters, washed the carts, loaded them up with PTB PET, refilled, blew out all three atomizers, hooked everything back up, and the aftertaste disappeared after a few draws on each cart/atomizer.

I had also noticed that wicking seemed to have decreased a fair amount in the blue foam by the third day.

So I'm back to PTB, which is certainly more of a pain to set up, but I've never had any leaking problems with it, it's never changed the flavor of my liquids (except the first time when I forgot to wash the PET and all my liquids tasted vaguely of tea), and I've gone a couple of weeks without changing it out with no change in flavor or performance.

As always, YMMV.

i have been using it on my vapre51 w an 801 atty. i cut it the width of the cart and a little longer than twice the length fold in half and stuff it in. it works OK but i notice i still have to push it down to soak up the liquid at the bottom which i dont have to do on my 510 and 401.:D

I always push it down before I refill, I realized I was causing a huge air bubble if I didn't. Once I realized that, I get alot more juice in at the refill point. Try it and see, at first you don't even realize it. Fill it as you normally would and when you think it's full try pressing it down & see what happens. More room for more juice, I swear!

I've been using this stuff for several months. I use it in a 901. In an 801, I had leakage. Too big.
It works the best if you change to a new one every few days. I don't think they work the same even if rinsed and reused. I use a fresh one. It's cheap enough that I can replace often, and I put the old ones in a syringe and squeeze the juice into the new one.

OK.....I waited to post until I knew for sure. The brass filler tasted like metal and the atty still tastes like it 3 days after removing the brass.

So I ordered the blue aquarium filter foam from Petco and have been trying it for several days.

Like others, although it wicked amazingly well, I seemed to get a weird taste after a couple of days. What was I sucking into my lungs....So....I capped it with a small wool ball that I read about in another forum. The OP in that forum graciously sent me a sample of that wool (thank you for that).

Wool on the atty is tasteless, wicks well, and doesn't burn.

I knew I was onto something as it worked well all day yesterday with just a little topping off.

This morning, I wondered what would happen if I added the straw mod to the foam/wool contraption.

It rocks!!

I dropped a drop of juice on the bridge, slipped the cartridge on and flooded the atty. After clearing that out, I vaped huge, consistent vapes until the cartridge was bone dry.

Eureka! I have found it.

I am using a 901 cart on a 510 atty. Now all I have to solve is the 510's little battery problem. I hope that solution arrives today in the form of 3 801 batts and adapters to fit them to the 510 atty.

I think I will have the perfect e-cig without running around the mall looking like I am sucking on the small end of a baseball bat. :D

Here is what I don't understand about the straw mod...

You apparently have to leave a space at the bottom underneath the filler.
So what keeps the atomizer bridge from pushing the filler down?
And do you have to keep pullling it back up again?

Well, I didn't leave a space. I just used the straw mod as a way to get air to the bottom. If I did use a space, it wouldn't be a space, it would be juice there.

I fill an empty cart all the way to the top, then drop in the foam, it absorbs it all, then the straw and top it off with the wool which gets soaked with the liquid on top.

Don't prime the bridge as that will end up in your mouth.

I tried using the Marineland Hot Magnum Cannister size U and I got leakage.
I even tried topping off with some polyfill and it seems the foam does not hold the
liquid, it just drains into the atomizer. What am I doing wrong?? (Joye 510)

I was leaving the thickness at stock then cutting it about 1/8" wider than the width of the cart. For length, you can cut it even with the top edge of the cart (I preferred about 1/8" short of the edge of the cart). I think someone mentioned that the foam had to be loose otherwise it wouldn't wick, but that has not been my experience. You can even try doubling the length and folding in half before stuffing in the cart, which will create an even tighter seal between the foam and cart.

And of course, try not to overfill it. Remember that when you push the cart onto the atty, this will squeeze the foam a bit and release a bit of liquid into the atty resulting in either flooding or leaking. I usually take at least 10 puffs or so every time I refill a cart before I put it down to help avoid potential leaks.
