sorry if this is a bit off topic...
I remember reading a long time ago there was a diff between a lets say .6ohm single coil vs the same .6ohm dual coil in terms of amp draw... can someone explain??[/QUOTE

I'm not a dualie, I think, 2 coils = twice the amp draw = shorter batt. life.

If any of you guys are considering trying a kayfun, the KF Lite is now up for sale at InTaste. I use a ceramic build in these and it is bloody brillliant. Around 99 USD shipped. Bargain.

Kayfun Lite - InTaste

are these kfuns like a Penelope? I know you use ceramic but what is the standard wick material used? is this something that uses res& non res wires? I love the looks of the build. how does it compare with a genesis? one more thing steve, do you notice any juice darkening with this type of device? I did have a Penelope once but didn't care for it because of 2 reasons, it was very tight to work in, and the twisting of res & non res wires drove me crazy.

Hey Vap, no NRN required. Not like the GG stuff. No issues with darkening juice. Well, after about a week of use I will usually give it a clean and the dregs are gettin darker (a little carbon?) discoloration. It is not tight to work in as you can expose the deck completely and there are no vertical posts. Favourite atty for me at the moment is the full version 3.1 and using it constantly for the last couple of months. I set it up with 3/32 pieces as I am lucky enough to have a few of these left (plus broken bits which I kept thankfully). Only thing I am not sure of with the light version is not having adjustable air control so you may or may not like the draw (said to be a loose draw, possibly like an AC9). Intended for silica but have seen mesh set ups and as I have found ceramic works fine as well.

Vap; Here's Todd's review of "The Russian", which is a top quality Kayfun clone...good shots of how it's set up. He also has a review of the Kayfun Lite right below it..

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one of these when they become available over here..

I have one of these coming, will post results with a ceramic wick build.. No air control is the only downside for me so far.

The Russian looks great. I have an Odyseus clone which is amazing.

Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

so are the odyseus clones the same as a kayfun? or are they more like a Penelope, just bigger? does your ody clone require R&NR wires? been looking for kayfuns and all seem out of stock. are these kayfuns hard to get?

Vap; The Odysseus is similar in some respects to a Kayfun...but it's more similar to a Penelope...kind of a larger version of it, and yes, you need to do the R/NR wire crap in order to run them. I have a couple of Ody clones, and while they are a decent RBA, setting them up can sometimes be a pain. ....generally though, they are far closer in flavor to direct dripping than a Genny.

Kayfuns have always been difficult to get, ....that's why people are so excited about new clones coming out... the Kayfun is arguably the one of the best RBA designs available right now....better than an Ody, but availability is the key factor. They are as rare as hen's teeth, and mucho denero when you find one. The clones are just coming out now.....so hopefully, the Kayfun design will be available to the masses at better prices as soon as they can get out to distributors in volume....

I'm certainly looking forward to it.

you got me exicited about this one nam. I have been doing some searching for these kayfuns and like you said, nothing. I do see them occasionally on the classys, but they go quickly. I see a couple different versions of the real thing. one looks like a titanium kind of finish, one says gamma, another brushed, do they make a polished one? so these clones you mention, is there more to come besides the Russian? thought the ody just looked like a bigger version of the Penelope, so I wouldn't be interested, but I do like the looks of the kayfun. what resistances do you run in yours? thanks again

also what works good for me is to do an electrical wrap, if using the round wire, instead of hot wrapping. both work the same imo. so if your really good hot wrapping go for it, if so so, try an electric wrap. I believe I have a video on page 230 in this thread. the other difference is with the hot wrap you are coiling the wick before installing, with the electric wrap you wrap the coil in the mod. definatly the 28g and round wire, for me the ribbon was to mellow, I didn't get much of a TH with the ribbon. if you do the 28g round, I have found a 2/3 or 3/4 wrap to be good. the 2/3 comes in at .6 and the 3/4 at .8Ω. for me I have found that initially after making a wrap everything is good, then after about a half tank the flavor is better, so it does take a little time to get optimum flavor, but somewhere between all this sometimes I get slight expansion of both leads of my wires, this diminishes the flavor and vapor a lot, and I can always tell when it happens. I take a look at the coil with a magnifying glass and I can see the slight gaps, the trick now is to tighten them up without snapping the wicks. I insert a toothpick between the pp & wick then slightly stretch the wire to tighten, the toothpick keeps the wick from moving as you tighten. this happens more time then not with my ac-9 because of the spring connection. sometimes it also happens on the bottom coil at the neg screw. I would never be able to see these gaps with my naked eye, because im old, only with a mag glass. I run the wicks for weeks without taking out to clean, I just bry burn every other tank.

i have to say, i just don't get how you can have a Page 230 when this thread shows page 72 is the last.... ?
I know its something simple that i'm not seeing...

Vap; I don't have a Kayfun myself, they are currently just too hard to get a hold of, and far-too expensive when they show up (IMHO), but I'm looking forward to getting one of the Kayfun clones when they become more readily available. The Kayfun Lite looks to be the way to go (for me), but I'll hold off a bit until the prices come down just a bit (which they always do - I'm cheap!)

On my Ody clones, I run around 1.3 - 1.5 Ω so I can run them with a VV/VW or mechanical. I've run them sub 1 Ω before, but the Ody design gives a lot more throat hit and nic buzz than most other RBAs I've played with for some reason., I back my Watts down almost in half when I use them...and they still produce great flavor & vapor without being quite as harsh. I quit smoking over ten years ago, so I don't really need the high nic/throat hit anymore.

I've switched to ceramics exclusively in my Gennies, so that might be part of it also - silica and stainless wicks just don't taste right anymore. That being said- the flavors from the Odys are very good - I wish I could figure out how to run ceramics in them though, they could probably benefit from it. From what I've seen of the Kayfun, it looks like it might have many advantages over the Ody, with the same potential for decent flavor....and some folks have been able to get it working with ceramic wicks as well...so it could be the answer to my dilemma.

Either way....looks like a great toy to play with.....

The page count will vary depending on your setting for how many posts per page to display. You probably have it set to 40 posts per page which would come out to about 72 pages.

(also be careful with bookmarks for posts. If you bookmark a post when your setting is the default then change it to something else, your bookmark will be broken/not work. It's a 'glitch' with the forum code. The bookmark indexes to a particular post on the page. When the page count changes because the post per page is different, the bookmark will display the wrong post)

I am using a little sleeve of XS18 (1/8") under the coil now - 28g 4 wrap = .98 ohms... so far its great... wonder how this will work compared to cheesecloth as far as gunking goes, but for now its just excellent...

It will gunk a bit, just dry burn
