I have finally figured it out...
Two reasons for bad tasting hits on ceramic with WTA (and other thick juices):
a) Juice gunk on wick/ coil: Your mod has been sitting for a while unused and everything has dried up/ siphoned down into the tank, leaving nothing but a horrid paste that will taste badly. Long use at low volts will also cause this after a while. How to fix: Dry burn at 6v while gently blowing air on wick, you will see the gunk spark up and dissipate. Switch voltage down to 3v and tilt mod down to feed juice into wick, repeat about 4 times for a few seconds at a time while still blowing. At this stage do not let the coil get red. You should be good to go, if it still tastes bad, you have the next problem
b) Your coil is not tight enough. With ceramic, the coil needs to be tighter than Carrot Top's facelift, which is a sad irony, given how fragile these things are. How to fix: Sand the tip of your wick to a smoother finish, and redo your coil. Elias wrote up an excellent guide on page 63 for wrapping the coil nice and tight. Avoid cheecloth, while it works to get a good vape right off the bat with no break-in period, as the cheesecloth burns away, it will leave gaps between the coil and the wick. The bad tasting hits will come from you vaping hot, kanthaly air instead of juice.
If your coil is not tight enough, you will find yourself vaping successfully only between stages A and B, you will depend on gunk filling up the dead spaces, until said gunk gets thick to the point that it ruins the flavor.
