vaping could use a little Sun Tzu. There are too many that feel that since it is not smoking that they should have the right to do it anywhere. That does not help the cause. We need to do it proudly but respectfully. I hate strong smelling perfume, which is perfectly legal to wear in public. But when you douse yourself in it, I can't take a breath.

I'm going to risk one post, and hope the mods take mercy. I won't follow this up.

But a couple of years ago, before vaping, I had the chance to order a custom-made, movie-quality Batman suit (Keaton Batman, not Bale). But I refused. I just knew I'd wear it. A lot. Often.

I would be the Batman sniffing the fruit at the grocery store. I'd be the Batman pumping gas into his Pontiac Sunfire next to you. I'd be the guy standing on the rooftop of the local cathedral with his cape held up.

Yeah, I'd be that guy.

Goodnight, ECF.

Master Sun Tzu . . . I rarely have discussions about this topic. Used it during my whole working career and in my daily life.

More than one way to achieve what you want. Befriend your opponent. Agree with your opponent. Soon, he will see his error. Then, you may teach your opponent.

Recitation: I vape openly on the streets, in the car, in my house. I haven't had any issue with anyone giving me grief about vaping at work. I work away from the customers mostly (in a restaurant in the back) so it's not really an issue once I addressed concerns there wouldn't be a lingering smell or residue or anything like that since I do process food. I still usually step into the side room to vape, or even go out the back door and wander around while I do it like when I used to smoke. So far my co-workers have expressed approval and genuine curiosity from the fellow smokers.

I did have one scenario where I was walking to Wal-Mart and was vaping on the sidewalk. Some older lady looked at me funny when she saw the 'smoke' and started doing the theatrical fake coughing act. I stopped her and asked her if she was all right, since she was a nicer looking older lady, with genuine concern on my face. She mentioned that it was the smoke that was bothering her. So I stepped back and sniffed, and asked her if something was burning because I didn't smell anything. Befuddled, she sniffed a bit herself before she started to frown, and then I showed her my PV (a VAMO) and assured her it definitely was not a cigarette. She then asked me a few questions and we chatted briefly where I told her that this was a new way of doing things, and that it was water vapor and much safer than cigarettes. I then suggested she see a doctor about her cough, and gave her a wave and moved on.

Yeah no fears there mate, I just Vape wherever I used to smoke. Pick my battles.

I agree. I don't vape anywhere I wouldn't smoke. That's just me. I wouldn't hate on anyone that vaped somewhere you couldn't smoke though. When I smoked regularly I would never smoke where there were non-smokers in smelling distance. I called myself a "considerate" smoker. If I was sitting at a restaurant patio and there were non smokers around, I wouldn't smoke, even if there were other smokers smoking.

I care too much about what people think and it's something I struggle with. As a matter of fact, I vaped in a VAPE STORE for the first time last weekend because I felt really self conscious about it. But like I said, that's just me and it's something I need to work on. After I did it though, it felt good to do it in public. My hands were shaking from nervousness. When I vape while I drive I don't toot if there's a car next to me while MOVING and definitely not at a light if there's a car next to me.

Yeah, I got issues.. :(

This. Was having a conversation with my friends in a restaurant the other day as I openly vaped (after asking the waitress politely) about whether or not it was cool for me to be doing so. The only point they could think of (for arguments sake, in reality they support my vaping) was that people may not enjoy the smell. I replied with the perfume point, and that was the end of that discussion.

I vape in public, but I have a cig-a-like, so most people recognize it for what it is. I also don't puff out clouds of "smoke" like an engine that just threw a rod...:p My "smoke cloud" is typical to an analog.

Some of the video clips I've seen of mods show HUGE plumes of vapor that remind me of those mosquito trucks going down the road spraying for mosquitos. If you're one of those types exhaling huges plumes in public, then either you WANT the visual attention or are looking for the confrontation so you can argue that "it's NOT smoking" and you "have the right" to vape away.

Remember, while you may "have the right" to fart in a crowded elevator, it doesn't make it acceptable...

I vape with consideration for others.

Thank you all for the comments. As more and more people get educated hopefully one day it will be accepted everywhere.

People will only get educated if we vape openly but respectfully. I vape just about everywhere but respectfully. I don't exhale huge plumbs of vapor. I don't use a PV that looks like the real thing which is a big plus. Sneak vaping just reenforces the ignorant perception that we are doing something wrong. I have had a 99% positive reaction from people in general.

Well said! I think courtesy is generally lost on many people these days. I can't even say it is a generation thing. I tend to blame the internet and smart phones for creating an overly easy disconnect between people and passively encouraging individual islands of self-importance and self-entitlement. Drives me bonkers when in public, someone stops to tap out a text and blocks me from walking past or retrieving an item from a store shelf or something as if I am completely invisible. (I'm 6'3" and a big guy. Kinda hard to do.) I rate it up their in frustration level with those who don't have enough of a command of the English language to understand how and when to use their, there, and they're.... *sigh* Ok, /rant off :D

Wrong. I am just vaping happily. I really don't even think about anyone else's opinion except the person who runs the place. Case in point, I walked into a restaurant bar of a popular national chain to await my companion who was running late. I sat down and vaped, asked if it was okay and it was. By the time my friend got there, I was vaping normally and I was just comfortably doing my thing. I certainly was NOT looking for confrontation. And my REO does put out HUGE plumes of vapor, it's why I use it. It looks nothing like a cigarette, so that is just a bigger bonus.

And it was perfectly acceptable.

I love going outside on my break at work and vaping. Right on the sidewalk of a busy corner :) Today a guy asked me about it and i told him all about it. one time a girl that i didnt know walked up to me asked me for a puff. lol. i got one guy who works in the building interested and he bought a cigalike. everyone has been pretty cool about it, i dont think ive had one negative experience. my boss even lets me vape at my desk if i want, and the person i share an office with who cant stand cigs and is an ex smoker doesnt even mind.

Rocketpunk I worked at media play 13 years ago right around this time of year. I worked in the music section. Last year my job I could vape with the clients it was fun.

I worked in the music section, too. This was 1998, I believe. There was a battle going on between DIVX and DVD. I remember the Video clerk being adamant that DIVX would come out on top. Heh.

We had to do a P.A. announcement every 15 minutes. Did you have to do that, too?

And this was when Britney Spears was brand new... We had a 10x10 billboard of her above our stock-room door, the cover of her first album. We had one knuckledragger who swore he could see up her skirt if he stood at the right angle. ... /Facepalm...
