I was thinking of doing superglue before, but I'm afraid because of the chemicals. This stuff seems safer...

Seriously, I've just been slathering superglue on the cracks as I see them form.

Seems to be working so far - they haven't been getting any bigger and there's been no leaking...

Anyone try taking there torch to the cracked area ? I'm wondering if they would react like a Boro glass and possibly seal themselves back up,,, have to go very lightly holding the torch to the cracked area on/off on/off to heat it up just right, and it would have to have all the moisture out of the unit but may work possibly. I'm gonna give it ago if I get a cracked one and see if it works. :)

Actually... superglue... which is actually cyanoacrylate... is used in the hospital to quickly seal a cut.

You should not breath the fumes that come off of CA glues... but once it has kicked off and is dry it should also be safe.

Hm. Didn't know that - thanks. Was having visions of my lungs being glued shut! :D

How about a soldering iron? Or is that too low temp?

No, that wont work, it will just melt it,,, you want to evenly heat it as much as possible heat it with direct heat, so the crack just seals. I'm not 100% that it will work, I'm just thinking the way Borosilicate glass kind of works, but it may work, I will try one if I can get one that cracks, its a delicate operation you have to be gentile with the torch. Try it if ya got a cracked one and let us know.

I used to be a cheap skate and try and save all this stuff to use for years, even though they are meant to be consumables. Got tired of messing with stuff, now I just throw the crap out and use a new one. Figure my time I used to "fix" junk was better spent other ways. JMHO

Cheers,
otrpu
I don't consider myself a cheap skate. I just figure my wallet and the environment will be a lot better off if I spend a few pennies and a few minutes to repair something that's still usable. :)

I'm with you. And, frankly, Stardusts are way too expensive to just toss them when a few drops of glue will fix them.

Me too ! Are we any closer for these to come in ?

bad mentioned back on the 14th that he thought it would be in the next day or so and that they were testings them like they had with the Vivi Nova...

Not to dis Chris... but it seems that his projections are often a bit too optimistic. I suspect they are based on if no issues are found in testing which is seldom the case with new product advances. Personally I'm happy that they are not rushing them out before they are ready, even though I'm looking forward to when they are released still.

Well, the testing they did on the novas was well worth it cuz mine are fantastic, so I know my Stardusts will be too. Of course I'm already in love with my Stardusts  That's why I'm excited :D

I'm running into kind of a weird thing.....I've tried 2 of the Stardusts that I "welded" with the Ambroid. Neither of them leaks....but all I'm getting is nasty burnt taste from them. Given that I'm a bit paranoid.....I'm kind of leaning toward giving up on this project and just replacing them. I got 6-8 weeks out of them....so really can't complain.
