I've posted this before ... more than once
:p

All truth passes through three stages
First, it is ridiculed
Second, it is violently opposed
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident

Obviously, they have decided to fall back on the tried and true battle cry ...

Post on this by Dr. Phillips: CDC lies about kids using e-cigarettes | Anti-THR Lies and related topics

Key take-away: estimated 860,000 students TRIED e-cigs in 2011 & about 860,000 TRIED them in 2012. That isn't "doubled users." That is how many TRIED them each year added together (to get the 1.78 million.) The number of new students TRYING them each year is nearly IDENTICAL, not "doubled."

[....]Very sneaky.

Have to disagree. This is a government agency, as opposed to some free-wheeling ANTZ cult. It issued a press release full of misleading and misrepresented statistics clearly designed to grab headlines. I call it unethical.

I'd love to see a complaint or inquiry made to CDC's Public Health Ethics Committee (PHEC)...

Well, I'd say a government agency being "very sneaky" IS unethical, so we actually agree. ;)

It may be unethical, but it's something our government has been doing for more than a half century. If you have some time, do a search on PSYOPs and read through some of the now declassified documents and the related stories. Some of the stuff you'll find is the "way out there" conspiracy nuts, but the rest is very interesting reading on what our government has done and how it was justified.

And the CDC hasn't posted the 2012 data yet. You can only get the 2011 data. It would be interesting to see the 2011 percent daily use of analogs vs 2012 percent daily use of analogs. If the increase in ecig experimentation/use is decreasing the number of daily analog smokers among teens, then VAPE ON!!!

They don't put the data you need to compare in the same place. Nowhere in the e-cigarette report does it tell us the total number (or percent of smokers.) It only tells you what percent of "current" e-cigarette users also smoke conventional cigarettes. Also, if you are hoping to know "daily use", good luck with that. Regarding e-cigarettes, the CDC did not even collect the data that could tell them who is using them daily. The "current use" figure comes from those who answered in the affirmative, "Did you use an e-cigarette (even one time) during the 30 days before this survey?" So what they call "current" should be labeled "recent use".

They did ask "During the past 30 days, on how many days did you..." about 6 different products, including "smoke kreteks", "smoke bidis", "use chewing tobacco, snuff, or dip" but did not ask a similar question about e-cigarette use.

as a parent, I try to monitor what my son does and keep an eye on him and discuss things as best I can...the stores around here handle e cigs and batteries/juices the same as cigs-they don't sell to minors. my son isn't allowed to order stuff online either so that cuts that way out too. I mean maybe he'd try to sneak if he was older, but really and if he was-as a family we'd discuss and remedy things-how many kids are smoking other substances, smoking cigs, getting into alchohol, doing other sorts of drugs and you know what-if they want they'll find a way somehow and yeah even with good parenting they will experiment and sneak stuff on occasion-yeah, I don't want kids doing it, but honestly if they are going to experiment, they are going to find a way government regulated or not. I feel it's our job as parents to remedy and work on...this is just my opinion as a parent of a young teen-I honestly think the retailers in pa where I live have done a good job so I don't know where this hoopla is coming from-maybe i'm reading into things wrong though...plus all the teen s I know who are smoking are smoking analogs-they seem to find the e-cigs a bit weird or something and they are getting them from older siblings/older kids in neighborhood, I think they like the fact that they are easier to
