Follow up on the vertical coil...

I have become convinced that the practice of wrapping the outside of this vertical coil configuration is the key to the wick "keeping up". When I make coils in my dripper, I use a 3/64" bit, to give the interior of the coil a bit more volume. When I try to use 1/16', I find my limit to be around 10-10.5 watts. With the 3/64", I can go easily to 4.2 V, 1.2 Ohms or roughly 15 Watts. OF course, there are dual coils which helps with the wicks, too.

I find 12 W is just about the maximum possible with the KFL since it has single coils. I just bought a Helios dripper, so I am gonna play with that a bit and see if I can get the flavor to work properly below 0.8-0.7 ohms. When I go below that with dual coils, I get a tasteless mess. But I think the quad coils in this atty may make a 0.5 ohm quad coil a viable and tasty option. I kind of view 0.5 as just about the lowest I am willing to go. Of course, I said the same thing about 0.8 a month ago...

Good morning, Army.

Here is the Helios. I think its gonna look pretty sexy on my Caravela.

Lion, what is your PG/VG ratio? The longer I experience this Kayfun, the more I am convinced that higher VG users need something other than the most basic setup for their Kayfuns.

whats more basic than wire and cotton??? ;)

Well, I admit I kind of laugh at some of these people with their setups. There are so many ways to wrap coils and wicks and some of them get ridiculous. I often wonder why people waste their time fooling around with those ridiculous things when I use a very basic wick/coil and never have any problems. While I'm sure much of it is geeks who just want to play, I have also come to realize that PG definitely wicks better than VG and there might be some legitimacy to some of these goofy setups...particularly the high VG users.

I guess Im guilty of messin around with designs... but since I was limited by the 1.2 ohms and 5 amps of the Vamo/SVD mods I tested things out in that capacity. I did come up with a pretty good setup for the RSST tho... keeps things real juicy, good vape density and flavor. The HC3.1 is kept simple single coil (30ga 5-9 wraps for ohm variance) and cotton ( unboiled)... dont see any need to do nano figure 8 double looped ekowool covered silica with a cotton core dipped in ceramic coil wick assemblies ;) and I use 100VG....
