Just figuring that out Bronze. Seems my dino won't recognize the Passport, I don't see it with the other drives.

When I plug it in the wizard searches continuously for it..
What exactly is your dinosaur? Is it Windows 7 (or older)?

Older, XP. It's not compatible. I pulled up the user's manual from Kal's computer. Dang it.

ETA: So I guess I search for one that is XP compatible..?
I guess so Ms. Bridget. I have an Ultra Passport and it works fine but I had Windows 8 (now 10) and never had an issue. Wasn't aware it would be incompatible with XP but it doesn't surprise me. At least now you know what question to ask when searching for another external drive. Make sure it is XP and W10 compatible (if that's what is installed on the new computer).

Bridget, did you look under This PC, devices and drives? It may be there, but it isn't popping up for you. If your My Passport is password protected though, it may/may not show up or let you copy pictures to the old computer. I'm not sure, but take a look.

Well I am going to update on the essential oil diffusing stuff later. You can use Tea Tree with dogs, but really not cats. High quality oil at 1% dilution, up to 2% if necessary. I said there was conflicting info. I will edit my other post.

Christmas was good, but glad it's over. Packed up the tree and decorations last night. Got the frowny face from my mom about that, but I like less stuff sitting around.

Tech question.. I bought a portable storage device (my passport) to back up pics on my dinosaur. I got them all copied to it, but when I plug it into my son's new laptop, they aren't there.. What am I doing wrong?
This will add years to the life of your dinosaur , it will become the closest thing you can get to a Mac without buying one , might solve your drive problem as well .

Bridget , I'd recommend picking up a USB flash drive . Amazon has 64gb drives for $13 , Walmat sells 32gb drives for $11 . Format them on your sons computer first , you need to format it to FAT32 , your dinosaur should recognize it and you can use File explorer to copy your photos onto the flash drive and transfer them to your sons computer .

The other day I cleaned the throttle body on my truck. I also cleaned the IAC (which is attached to the throttle body). MISTAKE! The IAC doesn't work anymore and my idle speed tripled and it wont go down. Makes it interesting when shifting into reverse or drive...

    CLUNK!!!!

Sounds and feels like the tranny is gonna explode and blow myass clean off. Got a new IAC coming tomorrow. Another case of, "If it aint broke, don't fix it".

I would recommend the same thing but I'm thinking she (her son) wants to do backups for the entire computer (his new one). Possibly auto backups. ??

Retic-I have no idea what Linux does.. I'm so computer illiterate.
It will replace Windows XP as your OS , It's faster and more secure , no more antivirus , antispyware or disk defragging needed , Apple OS is closely related to Linux , It works the same as Windows or a Mac , point and click , same Browsers , firefox , chrome , opera etc. Email works the same , no surprises and it's free .

Problem is I've got about 10 years worth of photos on the XP laptop. I just wanted to back up those in case of a crash, not using Kal's computer as he's normally not here. I could just start uploading them to Shutterfly but it would take a while.

Retic if I do that I'm assuming all my files and pics are still the same? I'm thinking this may be the way to go to get me through.

If that's all you want to do then I would agree with Retic. Go to your File Explorer and right click on your photo file (assuming all your photos are in one main file). Then click on properties and see how many GB your picture file is. This will give you an idea how big your Flash drive needs to be. I'd at least double it cuz you might need it for other crap later and flash drive memory is fairly cheap.

No , they'd have to be backed up , unless you set it up as a dual boot first , You'd have to run defrag in XP first and choose the option to install alongside Windows XP in Linux Mint's install program , then use the file manager in linux to copy the photos into linux . I'd still recommend backing up your photos first and doing a clean installation of linux , even if you have to move them piecemeal by flashdrive first . Don't know if you have enough hard drive space to have a dual boot and copy your photos over . Flash drives are quicker than uploading for sure .
