A few years back I was driving at the start of a snowstorm in another old Honda I had. Guy passed me too quickly and the air current from his oversized pickup set my car to fish tailing. Next thing I know I was spinning around, crossing into the passing lane and likely to hit the steel guard rail dividing the roadway. Had one of my kids in the passenger side and all I could think was that if there was going to be impact, I wanted it on my side.
The spin out caused the snow to cascade up. Complete whiteout. Instincts took over and I managed to get out of the spin. Ended up in the shoulder ditch off of the right lane. Another steel guard rail about three feet in front of me. Big row of pines three feet behind me. No impact anywhere. No injuries for either of us. The car just softly set between damage causing obstacles.
Angel on my shoulder. No doubt in my mind.
The car even started right up. Some guys stopped to help push me out of the ditch. Car drove just fine to a gas station a couple miles down the road where I pulled in and sobbed for a little while.
