Good evening Mr. Overworked & Underpaid.
And thinking about where I'm going to get new hearing aids makes my head hurt.....![]()
Gives you an idea how a rented mule feels.I am so dang old school.
I’ve been borrowing movies on dvds from the library now that I cancelled most of my streaming services.
How hard is it to hold them by the edges, place in your player, then hold them by the edges and place them back in the case?
Seriously. It’s not your property. You are borrowing it!
Way too many of them are scratched up and have icky messes on them. SMH.
Some old school values should have been preserved. And don’t even get me started on the poolside loud talkers in the middle of the night. Quiet hours start at 9 pm. No one seems to care about being considerate or conscientious anymore.
I’m in a cranky old broad mood I guess.![]()
Why is that? Bad location? Too far? I hope it goes well for you.
Usually in this world you get what you pay for. But that isn't always the case and doesn't sound like that was your case with the first joint. It's a matter of deciding where to go. Not pleased with the place I got my first ones even though they are claimed to be highly rated. Doesn't matter what you spend if they aren't set right. I found some videos on you tube with some good imfo on getting HAs. Like a "real ear measurement test" that should be done to insure the settings match your hearing loose. I willing to spend more this time around ($4000) so it'd be nice if I can find someone that will work with me to find the right ones for what I need and with in my price range. And that's going to be 50/50 no matter where I go. So do I go with Costco to spent less and hope for the best? Try another audiologists or try one of the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centers. You can see why it makes my head hurt.![]()
100% agree with you on all of it . Linux is about choice and yes it's far more stable than Windoze , that's why MS's servers run linux . I don't know if you're familiar with DE's or desktop environments in Linux such as KDE , Mate or Cinnamon , they basically have different menus and degrees of customization , KDE being the most customizable followed by Cinnamon , XFCE , etc . It's still ubuntu or Linux Mint or whatever Distro you chose , underneath . What I would suggest is you download Virtual Box in Windoze and setting up virtual machines to try different versions out . Ubuntu calls their DE's flavors , you can download Iso files and install them in Virtual Box to get a feel for what suits you , I'm recommending Ubuntu because of the Wifi printer support built into it . The gateway to all things Linux is here DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.
If you like tinkering , Manjaro is worth looking at , I'm transitioning to Manjaro from Linux Mint because LM is discontinuing KDE , I've been actually triple booting for awhile now .

You can always try a direct install if the Toshiba will boot from a USB stick , otherwise you'll need a pack of blank DVD's to do that . You'll only be able to use 50% of it's cpu and memory in Virtual Box , It will be very slow doing it that way on an old laptop . I would suggest Xubuntu , Ubuntu with the XFCE desktop . It's easier on older systems but still has everything you need .I have an old Toshiba laptop, I am going to try a couple of these ideas. It should kind of fun. I will start with Ubuntu. The machine is old so, if I screw it up, no harm.

David, good luck with getting new hearing aids, that does sound like a pain in the rear alright.
LA, I quit Netflix. I couldn't afford it anymore, and besides they know they are steering it in a direction that they see fit, but I don't agree with. Some of their content is good, granted. Some of it I just cannot agree with. I hate that I will miss some regular shows, but I will have to deal with it. I do have a lot of dvds here from movies I bought before I got satellite. We watched tv with rabbit ears and watched dvds before satellite. Then I dropped the satellite because they kept increasing the price, beyond reasonable in my opinion. Then I went to Netflix.
Now I don't even have that. I have a vast assortment of books I can read here, or read again in some cases. I do keep up with the news, but I don't like the fact it seems a lot of real journalism has died. I find some alternate news to be preferable, but I listen to most all of it. I do get sick of seeing what some young folks are doing, such as wanting to hand over their rights on a silver platter. I find that infuriating to say the least. I don't do most social media, because I don't like it and don't understand the need for it. So yes, I guess you can put me in the old fogey box too. That is okay, I'd rather be there than in the ignorance is bliss box. The propaganda is nauseating. They keep trying to nudge us, but I'm not budging.

Oh yeah! I experienced this with my colonoscopy a few years back. Hop on the conveyor belt and enjoy the ride.Medical facilities can be assembly line instead of true personal care.
