I had not thought of a refurbished laptop; since I closed up my office, a computer is is more of a toy than an income generating device. I had my eye on a System 76 but I like your idea better. I will keep this in mind as well as your offer, Open office will open and use all of my old files should I need to do that. My greatest concern was finding drivers for Linux and getting a printer/scanner/fax to work.
Newegg, huh? I just looked, very interesting idea.
I'm curious , what made you think about a Linux system ?

I'm the same age as Bronze and I understood it , me understanding it is probably 50% of the reason BK posted it , nobody else understanding it outside of LA would account for the other 50% .:D

I understood it! Most of my info comes from the sidelines though. Things like reading “Ready Player One” (twice). I couldn’t even play Pong well. I’m decent at Match 3’s though. Yeah, I know. Pathetic.

Let me count the ways. I am sick of the updates on MS schedule. I am not sure that I want to be beholden to a mega-corp for a tool so vital to my work and pleasure. I hate Office. I no longer own a computer, I use it at the pleasure of MS, the machine is mine and its soul is that of MS. I'll bet they know a lot, I mean a lot more about me than I do about them. I think Linux is more stable and reliable. I like to tinker and think I can tinker more with Linux than Windows. I loved and used DOS to the max and was one of the last to leave; I wouldn't have but some research software no longer supported DOS and MicroPro WordStar had become garbage. My first Windows was Windows 2000 (you know I was a late adopter).
That is all I can think of off the top of my addled brain.

100% agree with you on all of it . Linux is about choice and yes it's far more stable than Windoze , that's why MS's servers run linux . I don't know if you're familiar with DE's or desktop environments in Linux such as KDE , Mate or Cinnamon , they basically have different menus and degrees of customization , KDE being the most customizable followed by Cinnamon , XFCE , etc . It's still ubuntu or Linux Mint or whatever Distro you chose , underneath . What I would suggest is you download Virtual Box in Windoze and setting up virtual machines to try different versions out . Ubuntu calls their DE's flavors , you can download Iso files and install them in Virtual Box to get a feel for what suits you , I'm recommending Ubuntu because of the Wifi printer support built into it . The gateway to all things Linux is here DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.
If you like tinkering , Manjaro is worth looking at , I'm transitioning to Manjaro from Linux Mint because LM is discontinuing KDE , I've been actually triple booting for awhile now .

So anyway, there are 75 homes in my neighborhood. If we had a lawn contest I would win this year. It's impeccable front, back, and sides. It looks like carpeting. Everyone stops by and wants to know what I did. When I tell them, they look dejected and sigh. Yes folks, if you want a perfect lawn you have to invest a whole lot of time and/or $$. North Carolina is not at all lawn-friendly. Not in the slightest. Now I wish they would quit asking because I'm tired of having to tell each one over and over and over. Think I'll print it out on a sign and just point from now on.
