Well I saw the heat wave through the central US. Then I looked at future data for me. High 90s starting the 30th. 101-102 starting June 2. That was Wunderground data. AccuW kept up with the adblocker stuff, so I just closed the tab. That is where I saw the heat wave map. Sounds to me like we are getting the dip and repeat treatment from a previous hellish summer, and this is still officially spring. I know what is going on here, and I am not happy about it.

Well I guess everyone is celebrating Memorial Day, that is why it is slow in here. I went and picked my Mom and I a sliced beef sandwich last night. I think it was the best bbq sandwich I've had, maybe ever. That was my big to do. Maybe we should revive another music thread to get this place moving again. ROTFL.

Smart Cars may be well built and fun to drive.... but I seriously wonder what they had in mind when they engineered the wiring system..
my left headlite went kapoot sometime back and I had to do a quick rig to make it turn on ( jumpers)

I need to get a new brake tag so everything needs to be functional and I went to trouble shoot my issue... there was no power to the lite assy on the drivers side.... when I turned on the headlites the right side would work but not the left...hmmm
did some more diagnostics and was stumped by the lack of power on the left side... so off to the Smartcar Forum and lo and behold....
the left side headlite has a fuse ( and why doesnt the right side tho????? o_O) yudthink that a fuse would protect both headlites ( or a set of fuses separate from each other to keep you from loosing both at the same time) and there is no fuse for the right side... huh???

since the right side worked I figgered that the fuse was good to go and there was another issue ( wiring?)
anyway... got some new fuses and wala!! back in business :)

I deliver nuclear medicine on occasion ( used for cancer treatment) and while I was waiting for my product I noticed a map on the lunchroom wall of all the locations where this product is produced... if you drew a triangle from New York to Miami to Oklahoma City and back to New York, this would be the highest density of locations in the US... odd how it seems to match the "fallout" of nuclear testing... and we are talking about 120 locations in that area... theres about 3-4 (IIRC) that arent in that "triangle"... something to ponder.........

and you want to know why we are all cancer stricken...
its a big long but interesting... didnt know that there were that many tested

That was interesting. Troubling too. And not just because I’m living in almost the center of the massive white dot where the US did most testing. I can’t help thinking, “We know not what we do...”

Speaking of not knowing what we are doing... Yesterday I decided to try making gnocchi from scratch. They were a little bit lumpy because I didn’t have a ricer, which allows a finer mash without turning the potatoes into a glue-ball.

Had these with a homemade Garlic Butter Parmesan Caper sauce. Very tasty! The gnocchi melted in your mouth. Apparently “authentic” gnocchi should not be gummy or chewy. Who knew?!? Anyway, I had fun.

I have never even heard of gnocchi. I bet it is good though. I like trying different food from other places. As long as it isn't bugs or something nasty anyway. I do love Italian food, so if that is what this is, I'd love it.
Gnocchi is potato pasta or dumplings if you prefer . Major PITA when you have to do a few thousand at a time . They're good with some browned butter with some fresh sage and cracked pepper thrown in too .

In my quest to learn about it, I found out it originated in Italy. Mostly because Italians weren’t so keen on potatoes. So they often got old, and old potatoes are dry which makes the best gnocchi! Ingenious.

I used Yukon Gold, though Russett might be best. Depends on who you ask. Most say to use a delicate sauce like butter and cheese, etc. But some recipes have sausage and tomato sauce. They are versatile! And inexpensive and tasty. Time consuming to make but not too bad.

I would not like to be the prep chef on gnocchi! A small batch for a few servings was plenty of work for me. I love working with dough. I’m not a huge sage fan, but lots of people said it was great.

I just like making my own food from scratch. It’s gratifying. Gnocchi will be easier when my ricer gets here. I also bought a little paddle board for making the grooves because it was a few dollars for that. These I lightly hand smashed with a fork. Then hand-grooved them with the fork. Fun, but not on a large scale!

Now I’m making homemade pizza with a sourdough crust. Again, time-consuming. But I love the results!

I have every sympathy for professional chefs like you. What an insane job! And underpaid and under-appreciated too.

I think I would like that. The only dumplings I've ever made was Chicken and Dumplings. I can't do very much sage though, it never has agreed with me for some reason.

Final result! Some of those lumps are chunks of Parmesan. But I’d never felt hired by @retic1959 by showing this as my signature dish. ;)

I love most all kinds of cheese. BK noticed the capers. I'm a big fan of those too. Sounds like a big winner to me!

I am a total freak for capers!!! If I baked a cake, I’d have to find a way to work capers in there. LOL

Most food for me is a cheese delivery device. ;)

@kkay59 - If you’ve made chicken and dumplings, you’d be a natural at gnocchi. The kneading is different - more of a fold and pat rather than stretch and pull like most doughs. You’re not supposed to knead gnocchi dough more than a few minutes, maybe 3 tops. Bread and pasta dough is at least 10 minutes of kneading.

Now I need to find a good Chicken and Dumplings recipe! And Chicken Pot Pie!

I was whittling away on Cassie's hair again today. I have always kept it cut about every 2-3 weeks. She started getting an issue with her eye, and I thought a hair was hitting it, or she had a stye. So I decided to really shorten her hair, I did that twice with no luck. So today I cut her visor completely off, and gave her a real short haircut, but I need to do some final touches still.

I did some research online and found out she had a cherry eye. I had never heard of that before, nor seen it. Cassie didn't have a bad one, but it looked bad to me. I thought great, the surgery will be very expensive (and it IS), I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Well I found out you can treat it like a stye, with warm compresses, and then massage it back in, in some cases. It didn't go back in easily, and it took a lot of time. It may pop back out tomorrow, if it does I know how to fix it now.

She didn't like the compresses too much. I even flushed her eye 3 times with water, that was an undertaking I'll tell ya. The trick is to do this at night, when she is already sleepy. She will fight like a beast to put in sterile eye drops too. I tried that as well. I just kept repeating the treatment, and it finally worked. What a relief!

Awwww, poor baby! You’re a good mom, that’s for sure. It’s best to avoid surgery when we can. Glad you were able to take care of her. She is one lucky pup to have you. :)

Chicken Pot Pie? I've never made that, but a friend of mine used to. I haven't made Chicken and Dumplings in ages. I've always loved it though. My mom didn't like it, so she never cooked it. My grandma used to make it, and I always made a pig out of myself when she did. Chicken and Dumplings is easy, but takes a good while to do.
