down here, if the humidity gets below 85% we tape off our gills and relearn how to breathe "normally"... ;)

And that would be the reason I prefer not to live down there!

I was finally used to breathing dry air. Now I have to relearn how to breathe stuffy humid air.

I am surprised you are having humidity LA. It is almost always humid here in the summer. What is surprising me here is after the rain, the temperature is going to be close to 100 for a week they say. Usually after a decent rain for a few days, the temps don't climb that much and stay there.

It was hot today, but not as bad as it was before the rains came. The real feel went to about 103 or 104, I think. I was surprised that I did have to water a few potted plants. I did lighten the soil, I hope that wasn't a mistake.

April, I will tell you that my daughter is going to have twins. (both boys) They are fraternal twins, and right now they weigh about the same. They make look alike, or totally different. I hope they look a lot alike. The main thing is that they are healthy and happy of course. The boys will be my first grandkids. My daughter is going to have her hands full, that is for sure!

I must have missed (or more likely already forgotten) that both babies are boys! Interesting that they already know that they are fraternal. These test have come a long way since my day! I sure hope your daughter got some of her mama’s “tough stuff” in her character. The good kind of tough that gets you through without losing your mind and all your hair. ;)

trying to catch up but wow... anyone want to give my some updates?

Bronze is still old and grumpy. Fixing his brakes reminded him of this.
Robino1 is still fighting cancer. Her positive outlook and overall demeanor in the face of such a struggle is admirable.
Retic, DD and BK are "gaming". Lots of talk about the Linux platform. Wether they are Saving the World, or blowing it up, you would have to ask them.
After many years, David lost his fur baby. He has a particular breed picked out for his next one. Cute little pointy eared thing.
Classy has a new fur baby that has gas problems.
Hulamoon has so many new fur babies that she will not allow herself to go to PetSmart for fear of bringing 12 more home.
Wiota is stateside last I heard.
CMD stops by. Him and Bronze have old man discussions.
And my new thing is giving up on the rusty old gas grill and buying a new Weber grill. Lori is still waiting for her invite to supper, although the logistics on that one might be a little complicated.

Thanks @PapawBrett! Glad to know things are chugging along as usual.

Really hoping you’re at the tail end of your treatments @Robino1, it can be such an exhausting, emotional ordeal. Much love and hugs to you.

And I can’t believe David doesn’t have that Corgi yet.

I bought a small very run down fixer-upper and have been renovating that with some help from a woman I used to work with. My girls are still wonderful. Had a little health bump in the road with my youngest, but that’s all sorted out and she’s feeling better. Oldest is still going to Community College, working and living at home. Been traveling, mostly to Northen CA and enjoying that.

FOLFOX failed. I'm now on Folfori. I don't see an end in sight but I'm still fighting. :)

Hang in there. I have a coworker that’s going thru her 4th round of chemo for stage 4 ovarian that has metastasized all over The peritoneal cavity. What’s helped her outlook is accepting that it’s a chronic illness that will always require her time and attention, that the treatment process is fluid. Are you feeling OK?

I am feeling ok. I've finally got a handle on the hand issues and that was huge. Sometimes there is pain in my belly but I think it has more to do with scar adhesions since there are a couple of lumps right on/by the surgical site. No tumors were reported on that side (right) but there is one on the left and in the pelvic region.

All in all, I'm taking it one day at a time and for the most part, I'm living life to the fullest of my ability.

Thank you. Yes, they have tests you wouldn't believe now. They even know how much each baby weighs if you can believe that. The twins are at a very good weight right now. A tad over 4 pounds. If I remember right, the boys are within 2 oz in weight, from each other. So that is close, and a good sign. I don't know about tough stuff now. I'm not as strong as I used to be. My daughter does have some of my personality though. Shhh...don't tell her that. My daughter is very strong willed, and great with kids. She has always been a little mother hen, even when she was little. I think she will make an excellent mother.

Papaw, you hit the mark on the heat wave. Today they are expecting hotter temperatures than they did yesterday. I cleaned my little window unit's filter, and got it ready to do the best that it can. It was 77 deg in here before the sun came out this morning.

continued .....
I should also mention that FranC is being brave while her husband is working through cancer treatment.
Pappy and kkay are getting hammered by heat and humidity. Such is life in East Texas in July.
I think I got it all now ....

BRAVO!!! You missed your calling, sir. You should have been a writer for news broadcasts. They would have been more concise, more interesting and a lot funnier!

As for supper, I used a teleport app on my iPhone the other night. But you are so remote that its GPS missed badly and I got lost. So I ate the cheesecake I baked and brought along because you *never* show up for supper invites empty handed especially if you invited yourself and teleported back just before my battery died. Stupid iPhone apps. ;)

I’ve been watching a show called Food Safari. The host is an Australian woman who ran a business taking people on Gourmet Food Safari journeys. What a great business idea!

They featured Turkish food in one episode and showed a yummy looking flatbread. So I looked up the recipe and tried it out today. Easy to make flatbread!

Half of the dough I used to make Stuffed Turkish Flatbread. Diced potatoes, mushrooms, spinach, tomato and grated Parmesan (yes, I put that on everything). Other than getting my pan too hot and burning these a bit, it was amazing! Next time I’ll skip the potato and maybe indulge in some ham in there!

The rest of the dough I made into plain flatbread. The recipe called for nigella seeds which I don’t have (yet) and sesame seeds which I love and always have around.

This was fluffier than most flatbreads, but so so good!

I’ve been having this issue with everyone regardless of accent. Either the whole world has taken to mumbling or all that loud music in the headphones has finally caught up to me.

My beef with YouTube videos is when they have “ambient” music that’s louder than the person speaking. BACKGROUND music should be in the background! Better yet, spare us the music and just talk.
Got a friend who turns the music up to ear busting levels and then starts talking. And it's metal. :headbang:

My daughter is going to have her hands full, that is for sure!
Wait till she starts paying the grocery bill when those boys become teenagers.

LA, that flatbread looks perfect. I love flatbread, especially with stuff like what you have on there. Panini is also very good in my opinion. I am not that big on bread, but I could get stuffed eating what you just made. Watch out, you will be another Dusty before ya know it. Then you will leave us with your new found fame. :D

LOL! Not likely unless I expand out from working with carbs so much. It’s not intentional - I just love working with dough. I did entertain the prospect of setting up a small venture with the sourdough crackers I make. They are outrageously good! But I’m a crunch freak and maybe not everyone would like them. And they take a fair amount of time. Automating that would ruin the “artisanal touch”. I do wonder about all the home bakers I read about who do cakes and such. Maybe I’ll look into what kind of licenses are needed.

Mostly I got into all this to save money on food and to eat better quality stuff at the same time. It’s an amazing cost savings. It does take time, but I’m looking at faster, easier recipes. It breaks my heart that low income people have to eat foods that are cheap, and so bad for them. I’d love to have a content channel (videos or blog) showing how to prepare healthier food at a low cost. It’s hard when even basic ingredients cost a lot. But it’s on my mind.

My friend asked me today whether I’ve tried making gluten-free bread. I haven’t, but I did share this article with her about certain sourdough breads being okay for the gluten-intolerant. That article sparked some thoughts about starting a small business making the long-rise sourdough breads the article cites. It would be a joy to do and good for the growing number of gluten-intolerant people around.

Then I thought about the liabilities! What if someone got sick from my sourdough bread? I’d feel awful. And these days I could be sued into abject poverty.

Why Some Gluten-Sensitive People Can Still Eat Sourdough Bread
