LA I never knew your area had a monsoon season. I can see why people would want to live below ground, to get away from the heat. That is sad that they have to be urged to get out before it floods them out. Stay safe as you can. Aren't you in an upstairs dwelling? I thought I remembered pictures from an upstairs apartment. That could've been from a previous place you lived though. We are back to full on heat here. The temps are going to be in the high 90's.

We call them Mother Hens on our local website. :)

The worst are the HOA Nazis who have the power of some ridiculous HOA regulation behind them. Or even if there is no express rule or regulation, they want to control the way everybody else lives their lives.

Most of them don't have jobs and have nothing to occupy their time, so they obsess constantly over things that really amount to a gnat on an elephant's .... in the whole scheme of things.

I'm on 16 acres out in the country, and I'm thankful I don't have to deal with those people any more.

I spent about 2 hours out in the blazing sun yesterday afternoon fixing a hydraulic problem on my tractor. Then spent the rest of the afternoon mowing my yard. it's about 1.5 acres with lots of trees, beds, fences, etc. to mow and trim around, so it takes forever. I was blasted by the time I was done. The heat and humidity really sucks the life force out of me.

Yes, you really have to stay hydrated too. The heat and humidity does suck the life out of you. I agree totally with that. I usually try to stay in the shade if I must be out. Then I try not to stay out too long. I can't deal with the heat now too well. When I was young, it wasn't too bad. Now that I am a bit older, it is just too much. I take a med that does make you burn easier out in the sun. So I do have to be careful. Some people like to wear thin long sleeve shirts in the sun/heat. I have tried it, and I just cannot stand it. I have to wear a thin tee shirt and shorts. I like to wear a loose shirt that allows some air flow. Now I will also wear a floppy hat, if at all possible.

Amen, Brother! No HOA here either. Everyone chips in $25/year to pay for entrance lights and landscaping and that's it. Things are handled by a neighbor. End of story.

The heat and humidity really sucks the life force out of me.
It worsens with age too.

I was surprised that there was a monsoon season here too. It’s a time period where when the rains come, it’s a lot in a short amount of time. I am on the second floor. But there are always warnings issued because if you are out on the road, you can get caught. Certain areas will go from no water to 3 feet within minutes! And it’s rushing fast. In the tunnels, if you get flooded out, you will be swept away fast and most likely will not survive. It is certainly cooler underground! But quite dangerous from July through September.

my mom used to teach classes for the deaf ( grandma was deaf and mom knew sign language) and in the process of teaching, she had to learn the material herself in some cases... one class she taught was automotive mechanics, so she ended up knowing quite a bit more for a woman her age ;) oneday she had to bring her car in to get it repaired ( and she knew what was wrong with it) and the mechanic gave her a line of BS sooo deep and long you could have floated the Queen Mary on it... after he was finished with his "prognosis" she looked at him and asked him if he was sure about that, and he said he was positive about it.... then she told him what was wrong and how to fix it and how much time it would take... he was floored... and she got a really good price... :)

anyway, the blue car is all back together and done, the yellow car has an engine under it and will be moved to the back yard to await further notice of repair, and the white car is back in the possession of the wifey... the status quo has been established once again :)
