been thinking.... its about having a soul... if we have one and we are supposed to still be "us" when the body dies... that "us" are still around in some sense... how come we cant remember anything when we pass out?? does the soul pass out too?...

just wondering.... ;)

Try wondering about the phenomenon practicing alcoholic experience called "blackouts".
Walking, talking, even driving or working....
But not fully conscious. No memory recall. Appearing to be normal, but completely out of it.

Chew on that ....

Good Morning Army.
Have a Safe and Blessed Day :)

Well Pappy, I hope you aren't going to be working outside for a week anyway. You are going to have slightly hotter temps than I am. It is 98 with a heat index of 109 here. It will heat up even more, as this is not peak yet. I was out for a while, tending to my plants. I feel sorry for those who put a bunch of money out on a big garden. If it produces much in this heat, it will be a miracle. I didn't leave my plants that like a few hours of sun out for very long today. I brought them back to the shelter of the porch. A couple of my cactus got a scorched spot on them. So I can just imagine what farmers are going through. If they have some shade, and adequate water they might live. Still production will be way down. (That means higher food prices.)

Temp 101 with a heat index/real feel of 111 deg F. Well, this is one of the hottest days I can remember for a while. It can still go higher, as it usually gets a deg or two hotter than this a little later on. The next 3 days will be hotter than today they say. I was going to go to the store, but I have changed my mind. There is no way I would move to the desert. I feel like I'm already there! :tumble:

Sounds like you’re hotter than we are this year. Hang in there, stay inside and take it easy.

We are at 110 and climbing. Forecasts are saying next week will be even worse. You are right up there with us! Stay hydrated. I agree with April - hunker down as much as you can. That’s how I’m surviving this.

Yes, I was hunkering down. I don't imagine I will be doing much over the next few days. The morning up until lunch was tolerable. After that it just got miserable. It was 80 deg here at 5am. So the nights aren't helping the inside temperature. If I feel hot in the house, I can go outside and come back in. Then I feel like it is cooler in here than before.

It was 106 when I got home a little while ago. Now it's 104 with a heat index of 110.

I've got outside work that has to be done this weekend. I'm gonna get up and start by 6:00am and try to be done for the day by 2:00pm.

Pappy, you can't wait to do whatever it is until next week? This is serious now. You could easily have a heat stroke out there. It is nothing to play around with. We are under heat warnings for the weekend as well. At least cut your stopping time by an hour or two. I had to go to the store this evening. Even the grackles had their mouths wide open, and looked like they were in bad shape.

Well, my goal is to work until 2:00pm. But the truth is I'll probably be wiped out by noon. This heat is just stupid.

When I retire, I'd love to move to northern New Mexico or northern Arizona (Flagstaff/Sedona area), but my wife won't do it. If we have much more heat like this, I may go anyway and give her directions on how to get there if she changes her mind. ;)

Flagstaff and Sedona are lovely places. Sedona is still a bit hot. Flag would be my 1st choice.

Good luck on your outdoor work. I’m having a pool put in and the workers were here at 5am. They stayed till 7pm. I kept a cooler full of Gatorade for them, kept refilling water bottles and ice in the ice chest. I could never do that kind of work.

Fun with Photoshop! I did this as a joke a few years back to send to a friend.

This is her “Jabba The Song” pose. :)

The downside to having a sizable property - the work out there has to get done regardless of the weather. It’s wonderful having the distance from neighbors. The screaming child next door (or downstairs - I couldn’t tell which one it was) reminded me of that for an hour today. But I also heard the grounds crew out there in the blazing sun today. For now, I’ll happily hear the screaming.

I admire you and all the others here who still have the energy to work outside. I’m spent on that front!

when it comes to yard work... Im a "naturalist"... if grass grows "this high"... thats how its supposed to be ;)

but some people disagree with my philosophy... they ( code enforcement) say grass should only be so many inches high... but yet, I dont see anyone cutting trees down to a certain height as they would with grass... why are trees allowed to grow as high as they can, but not grass?? ( too bad Redwoods dont grow here... I'd have a couple in my yard if they did )

the lady across the street had sunflowers growing in her front garden... they got to about 10' tall and she had to cut them down ( code visit)... and they were so awesome looking too...
