Prickly Pear Cactus - DesertUSA
The fruits of most prickly pears are edible and sold in stores under the name "tuna." Prickly pear branches (the pads) are also cooked and eaten as a vegetable. They, too, are sold in stores under the name "Nopalito." Because of the glochids, great care is required when harvesting or preparing prickly pear cactus.

Eating the Fruit
Called Indian figs or prickly pears, the lemon-or plum-shaped fruit of the Opuntia cacti ripen in late September. When mature, their outsides become bright red and the insides turn fiery orange (some varieties—not quite as sweet as the red prickly pear—are yellow on the outside when ripe and green inside). They make fine syrups, preserves, and jellies . . . and, in some parts of Mexico, the tunas are fermented to produce a heady liquor.

Just got back home yesterday and ..... yep. Back in the hospital last night.

Meeting with surgeon, hospice, palliative care and oncologists while here. Gathering my options

I weigh 116 and dropping. I cannot eat so I'm very weak. I am sick of being in pain and tired. So, so tired. Family is on board with whatever I ultimately decide.

I would write more but I need to lay back down now

I’m so grateful you checked in. You are fully supported and loved.

Some of my favorite verses; Jesus’ words for times of struggle:

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Good you are gathering all of your options. I'm sure that, no matter what, palliative care will be of great help to you, as they help your pain no matter what direction you choose. Having your family have your back, I hope, should give you peace of mind. Know that SO many here love and wish all good things for you and your family, but, mostly, I think we all wish you peace in whatever direction you choose. And freedom from pain. You are loved. Just know that.....

So glad you checked in, Robin. I'm sure you're tired and hurting. And we know you are doing the best you can because you're tough. Just wondering if that "Right to Try" bill that Trump signed is of any benefit for you (or could it)? I know you said there were no approved remedies available for your type of mutation but with this new bill patients are allowed to try unapproved remedies that are in the development pipeline.

We are all thinking and praying for you. Real hard. You have everyone's unwavering support.

Robin, it was so good to hear from you! Maybe instead of food you could have organic fruit and vegetables juiced up to give you some energy? I don't have many words besides faith, hope and courage. All I can say is that you are not alone, and you are loved. Fight with everything you've got. We all know you are a fighter. Pray for strength, and fight some more. You fight until you have confirmation of His will. His ways are higher than ours, and He sees the big picture. Ultimately I found peace by submitting to His decision, one way or another. Healing can come in different forms. If one door closes, another opens. I believe the key is prayer.
