I have never heard of this Duck Duck Go, I’m still on google chrome. And if anyone wants to track my internet activity they are more than welcome too. I’m sure my amazon activity is not any source of intrigue.

Happy Monday everyone!

Looks like the rain is taking a day off today, finally. Nice and cool, got the windows open and fall candles burning, housework day. Good times!

Still raining here. We've had a day or two here and there without it. The ground is mud, and still more rain. This has been going on for a month and a half, following a very severe drought. We surpassed our normal rain amounts now of course. Crops such as pumpkins are going bad. I'm glad I don't have to worry about livestock right now. I hope Pappy is doing alright. I think he may have some livestock, I'm not sure.

I’m posting via Duck Duck Go for the first time here. I didn’t know they had a browser. I knew them for their search engine, which used to be very limited. Now that Google and other search engines decide for you which results to show or not show, I prefer just the straight results. Don’t manipulate information for me! And of course, it’s for our own good - more relevant based on what I’ve looked at in the past. Phhffftt!

They have it for smart phones now. I don't see a Duck Duck Go browser for a home pc though. Maybe they do have that, and I just haven't seen it.

I haven’t checked that yet. This is on my iPad mini. That’d be a shame not to have it on desktop. But Firefox is doing okay so far.

My activity isn’t very interesting either. It still creeps me out when I see ads on random web pages for items I browsed on Amazon. Mostly cooking gadgets, but still it’s creepy.

It’s wonderfully cool here today too! I love doing housework on a cool, bright fall day. No candles or incense though. The cats let me know they don’t like that. Of course, most of the time they look at me like,”You don’t *smell* right!”

It’s okay. They still love me. I feed them.

Oh man! There’s a little one downstairs who NEEDS to go in the naughty chair or timeout corner or something. Every single day with the door slamming and it just now started again. Yesterday it went on for almost an hour. One end of their place to the other. Slams so hard it rattles our floor/their ceiling. Then the screaming starts.

Of course, the neighbors across from us slam their front door even harder. At least I know my startle reflex is still good.

Naughty chair? That would be pleasant compared to what I got.

Same here. I’m thinking that’s why we don’t slam doors! Learned pretty early on to respect others enough not to do such things.

No one calmly said to me, “Indoor voice, please.” Nope. A sudden back of the hand said it all.

Note: Consistent use of naughty chairs and timeouts, along with loss of privileges did just fine for me raising my kids. People stopped in stores and restaurants to compliment on how well behaved they were.

Just so no one thinks I’m advocating for the harsh corporal punishment I got.

My mom's favorite is when parents would do the count. "1...2...3" My P's never got to one before the whackin' started. Amazing how we knew not to push them. And it spared us a whole lot of agony.

Whatever works, right? My guess is naughty chairs work better with girls. Just a guess though.

Could be. I didn’t have any boys so I couldn’t say.

Kid 1 fell apart when sent to naughty corner.

Kid 2 was unfazed by naughty corner, but hated being sent to her room *without* blanky.

Kid 3 responded well to being sent to her room and losing video watching for the day.

Kid 4 once spent about 2 hrs in her room without feeling ready to apologize. But she hated only being allowed to read books - no toys, no TV or computer games.

Bottom line: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As you said, you find whatever works.

I never ever did the count! It was do it now and if I have to tell you again, there will be consequences. :)

The worst was when my mother would make us go outside and cut a switch off a tree. Getting a whipping with a switch was bad enough, but having to cut your own switch was the worst.

And see, I find it fascinating when I get those ads for things I was searching for. One day at work we were talking about chicken fried steak and one of the girls opened her FB and sure enough a recipe for chicken fried steak showed up as an ad.

The technology to do this stuff is amazing.

I’d agree that tech is fascinating. But when I discuss things in my home and they show up in ads or in a social media feed (and they have - minutes after talking about them, not browsing, not looking it up) then I can’t find anything positive in it. AI listening in on us is not gonna be good. Showing ads isn’t gonna be all that it’s used for.

I think a lot of the ads we get are also from cookies embedded in the sites when we're looking at stuff. I too use duck duck go, hate anything google myself. But what I really hate is if I've talked about something, and then an ad for something related pops up on my phone. One time was really unnerving, we have season passes to an amusement park close to us and my husband downloaded their app. We were walking through the park, getting ready to leave and talkimg about where we wanted to get dinner from on the way home (never eat inside the park, we'd be bankrupt). All of a sudden his phone started going off and it was notifications from that stupid app (which was turned off btw) highlighting all of the food choices for our particular location in the park. Deleted the app immediately.

No, my life's not all that intersting either, but they can darn well leave me alone!

Ok, taking off the tin foil hat now for a while.

Wow! That is unnerving! I don’t blame you for deleting the app. It’s interesting that we are having these experiences and noticing too. The first time I put it up to coincidence. But it’s happened at least half a dozen times to me making it unlikely to be coincidental. Yes! Just leave me alone!

I saw a presentation by one of the upper level Google or Facebook execs. She was excitedly discussing tech that’s coming soon. It’ll be a device that will enable you to send your thoughts to your phone, tablet, etc. No typing or voice command.

She hurried to assure the audience that it will have to be a thought you intentionally send. The device won’t just read all of your thoughts. Don’t worry! We’d never do that!
