might want to consider an "On Demand" water heater.... it heats only when the hot water is used.... uses about the same amount of "fuel" tho, but the water stays hot forever ;)

my pet peeve during cold weather here... the hot water only lasts about 25 min, but in the summer time ( when the supply water is 80+ degrees) it never goes cold...

LOL! Have more coffee. ;)

Im "buzzed" on RedBulls at the moment... just got home from a 500 mile RT an hour ago... working on my "after work" toddy ( white russian, didnt want beer this time) got to counter the redbull with some ethanol...

exhausted from driving, zinging on redbulls, and slowing down with a toddy... time to go find dinner soon... at 9 am... dinner o_O

and they still have me scheduled for a 2pm- 7pm run AND a 7:30 pm - 11pm run tonite ( again) and even possibly another 1am - 9am run for friday... I dont mind being wealthy, but not at this price...

hmmmm... imagine an omelet with green onions, a touch of black pepper, maybe some white cheese, and grated ( as in cheese grater) hard salami ( a touch salty with an awesome smoky flavor) added in...

I wonder if that would work?

there is this wonderful Europian Food store down the street that imports all sorts of goodies... and they have this salami ( Hungarian) that is incredible... it even has the mold on the outside of it... ( thats when you know its RIGHT) :)

how many bathrooms does your place have??? 50 gal is overkill for even a 2 full bath residence...

Agreed, I have two and 1/2 baths with two people (sometimes four) using them. A forty gallon has served me well for years.

Laughing, in the heart of winter, it takes next to no cold water to get a shower to the right temp. In the summer, I have turned the water heater down a tad for a while.

Those "tankless" water heaters have always intrigued me, that instant hot appeals to me. I hate watching water go down the drain waiting for the hot to start. I grew up in rural Kansas in the forties and fifties and we had a drought for several years and the ole cistern had to have water trucked in at great cost. That and submarine showers taught me running water is a treat.

need to start stocking up on honey.... time for another batch of Mead.... a friend of the wifey is making homemade Chambord ( another one of my favorites) and he is willing to swap out "bottle for bottle" of my mead for his "Chambord" ( raspberry/black current ) .... kinda confooozes me cuz black current isnt available in the USA as a natural wet "fruit"... must be dried/dehydrated...

it seems that the conifer trees here arent resistive to the fungus that grows on black currant... it doesnt effect the black currant plants, but it wreaks havoc on "our" conifer trees... ergo the ban on importing fresh black currant products.... europian conifers are resistant to the fungus... isnt nature/evolution amazing :)

you grew up in the 40s and 50's??? and I thought Bronze was old... ;) jk ;)

I remember the 60s ... I was watching Captain Kangaroo when a news flash came on about Pres Kennedy...
another moment in my life that was "intense" was when I was at a bowling alley waiting for the league to gather up and the Challenger was taking off... was watching it on TV and when it "discharged" the SRB way to early I yelled out " It Exploded".... no one believed me... and sure enuf... it did. My heart sunk and I didnt want to believe what I saw... and still staring at the TV, people were still applauding the flight with no idea what they just witnesses ....

I don’t remember the size of the gas water heater I had at my prior house. It was at least as big as this one, so probably 50 gallon. There were 6 to 8 people using 2.5 baths.

If someone flushed a toilet while you were in the shower, you got scalded! Someone told me it was because of the size of the pipes in the house. I don’t know. But it’s a treat here not to have to worry about that.

its true.... depending on where the supply splits at, the toilet flush can either cook you or send you into hypothermia.... this is where a GOOD plumber knows how to pipe a system to keep this from happening... ( pressure differentials/volume drops/valve balance) a decent class in thermodynamics and hydrodynamics will keep one happy ;)

I knew I could count on you for the full answer! There’s a lot more that goes into a house and it’s various systems than people realize. Craftsmen are grossly underrated.

It’s not unlike tech - servers, websites, code, browsers... these must be “piped” correctly or it all falls apart.

mornin done... cooked the wifey pan-A-cakes...

a dose of white flour ( ehhh 1-1.5 cups), 1 egg, a sprinkle of cinnamon, 2-4 oz of blue berries, a tblspn of Baking soda, a splash of half n half, a shot of vanilla extract, and a squish of orange juice, and enuf water to thin it out to pourable mix into a hot pan coated with browning butter.... ( dont let the butter smoke, you want sizzle and a slight wiff of smoke)

then heavily coated in your favorite syrup.... or chambord ;)

happy wife... happy life ;)

Im stuffed too :)

I went on a Canadian wilderness fishing trip way up there to a cabin that had no utilities whatsoever. Want a drink of water? Walk down to the lake and get a drink. Want to clean dishes? Grab a bucket and dip it in the lake. Want a shower? Jump in the lake. And those lakes are cold all the time up there. After a week I realized how important it is to have running water in a house. Both hot and cold.
