And then you double the trouble you're in for lying. See what I mean? It's no-win. Nothing good can come from it. It's like being coldcocked. Take your punch and just shut up.

LOL! The punishment you bear arises from the fact that you can’t say such a statement TRUTHFULLY!

I do agree with you. With far too many women, words are a minefield. A fair number of men too. I find such games exhausting and refuse to play.

sounds like the nurse is older than her patients... ;) she must be around 80 yrs old :)

As I approach the eighty year mark, I would define that as an experienced care giver with the ability to relate in a realistic manner to her clientele.

I saw a documentary about the influx of American foods like McDonalds. There was a direct correlation between obesity and its resulting diseases and the popularity of those foods, especially among children. The companies would send their “mascots” such as Ronald into schools to do programs with songs and games. Then they’d give out free samples. Some countries passed laws against that practice, but they don’t enforce them.

And the practice of a family cooking, sitting, eating and conversing went the way of the restless wind dwindling to little more that a breeze.

and TV/computer screens replaced getting thrown outside to play all day with the neighborhood kids - which was a challenge for me as I was the only girl among 9 guys. I learned to defend myself and not get picked on. LOL. We roamed a broad area in a way that would scare many parents today.

I can relate. When I was roaming, the world or at least my small portion was far safer than it is today. I am happy to not be growing up today and happier still that my daughter is not growing up today.

Exactly. And children learn to be good little consumers. And they learn to complain and refuse to eat home-cooked meals.

I could give that a try, Mrs CMD would laugh in my face.

Oh to be a fly on the wall!

Very similar to my own childhood! I could whoop any of their butts, so they didn't mess with me. All summer long we walked 2+ miles to the community swimming pool, spent the day there unsupervised, and walked back to be home by dinner time. These days a child walking alone brings a visit from CPS. It's a sad, scary world.

Agreed, but my feelings and thoughts are mixed about children out alone. The work that I once did has left me very conflicted about CPS. If I had an answer, I'd write books and teach at Harvard and last I looked, this part of Kentucky isn't Harvard and only the folks on the ECF and various political websites read anything I write (many of them don't care to read my musing).

I agree with you on children out alone. Mine were not permitted to do as I did! The world is not so safe anymore.

For whatever it's worth, I enjoy and benefit from what you write here!

!

have you seen those halo commericals? I think they are intended to be funny but I find them shocking and kids actually watch commericals.

It's sad I think, what they are teaching kids as far as disrespecting their parents.

I have seen no halo ads. I have seen previews of what passes for comedy on TV. Disrespect for parents seems to be championed by the networks. And, as the parents are portrayed, disrespect is the only rational response.

The only ads I see are the first few seconds of ads on YouTube. Those are bad enough! Everything is dark and unpleasant. A lot of disrespect.

Bad news from the dentist. I don't know what makes anyone think any visit to the dentist is simple. They NEVER are!! They opened my piehole and all I could see in their eyes was green...as in $$. I'm looking at five or six teeth that will need varying degrees of work. Anything from a simple re-drill/re-fill to re-crowns to new crowns to possible implant (on the one the cap fell off). Let the fun begin.

Drinking milk doesn't help your teeth I don't care what they say. No one drinks more milk than me but you'd never know it by my teeth.

Advice (I'm sure Bridget will back me up): Go to the dentist at least once a year for a checkup. They can fix problems BEFORE they get exponentially worse (and cost an arm and a leg).
Do get a second opinion on this one just to be sure. I had a dentist who retired and her (recent) partner took over - same one who root canaled my problem tooth. One year he rattled up an estimate close to $4K! Went to another dentist, the one I use now - he examined, and said none of it needed doing. I also think my original (the retired) dentist did a lot of "make work" that has since caused more problems.

I agree with all the above. It's like the powers that be can't stand for us economic units to be content. Comments by trolls and juveniles (of all ages) to deliberately provocative junk news articles on the web make me occasionally hope that (once we're all gone, of course) they get what they "think" they want, and God have mercy on their souls when they do.

Kids and grandkids keep me from agreeing, but I understand the sentiment.

Yes, sorry, it was a philosophical generalization, and there ARE a huge number of decent kids and grandkids who deserve better. Much much better. They'll be wise enough to see what the internet has become, and is actively trying to do, and treat most of it with the contempt it deserves.

It's true! I'm hoping all the divisive and agitating stuff loses its appeal and people get back to valuing courtesy, respect, hard work and other good things.

Same here. Welcome to HHV! Yes, we used to have a lot of freedom to roam when I was a kid. We went out after breakfast, came home for lunch, and then back for dinner. After dinner we could play until dark. We had to be in the yard when the street lights came on, or we were in deep trouble. I miss those days to tell you the truth. Some modern technology is useful, but the freedom and privacy seems to have gone the way of the Dodo bird. Young people today have no understanding of how it used to be. We made our own games up, and had great fun. Kids today need to be constantly entertained, or they are BORED. I plan to teach my grandsons some cool stuff, but they may rather play video games than go outdoors with their grandmother. Time will tell.
