So nice to hear you're having fun with your new friend. She wants to be close, you can let her out now.
Lol only lasted a half hour or so. She will have to get used to it so she doesn't destroy my house when we go places

Hello Army. S - l - o - w day today. Done work by 10am, home and asleep by noon. Of course, that means I made about a third of what I want and half of what I needed today. But, sometimes easy days are appreciated. Just got back from running errands / haircut uptown. Why do barbers, especially younger ones, always think an older man has to pull his hair from one side to the other ? At 56 years, I still have a full head of hair. Even still have two 'cow licks' sprouting up out of the crown. Yet they always part my hair too far to the side. Then comment how thick my hair is, and how much I still have. Go Figure....
Back to Netflix now. Has anyone ever seen 'Burn Notice' ?

Good choice with the movie, I'll probably have nightmares about using the public phone now. ha ha
Thanks again Bronze.
I don't think there are public phones anywhere anymore is there? It was a good movie. Keifer makes a good creep even if you see him for only a few seconds, huh?

My friend had it on once shortly after it came out. The acting was so hideous I couldn't take it. His dad was there too and we were laughing at him because it was so bad.

So I've had my own health insurance plan since 2001. My rates went up 33% in 2015 and are going up another 26% starting in January (same exact plan). That's a 68% increase from my 2014 rates. And I have hardly ever used it. Basically one colonoscopy and maybe four or five trips to the doc for sniffles in the 14 years I've had it. I checked similar plans on HealthCare dot Gov (Obamacare) and I would be paying more with a larger deductible. But the Obamacare plans do cover me in case I get pregnant. I don't have that on my current policy. So that's a plus. Right?

I would appreciate it if no one mentions that man's name.

I've got Bhumibol-care, which is $0.00 per month & no premium. Trouble is there's no care either.

We had one too El. Truthfully though, giving a cat a shot is not hard. But it does require time and expense and isn't something you can have the neighbor do when you have to go out of town. How old is Maxwell?

I know -- he doesn't even know he's getting "shot." (I became an expert at injections with my previous diabetic cat, Darius. He lived a good seven more years post-diagnosis; passed at age 17.) No one is certain, but Max is between 10 and 13 years old.

It's funny you should mention neighbors and going out of town. In fact, in Kansas City I did have the most wonderful cat-sitter right next door, who had been a nurse in her youth. God bless her, she was both willing and able to come to my house when I had to leave town twice a day, to feed/pet the boys AND to give Darius his twice-daily insulin. Man, was that woman ever a life saver!!

I have no idea what I'll do now, if/when I have to leave town. :(

Ginger was her name and she looked exactly like this one...

  1. The Thai Ridgeback is an ancient landrace of dog, recently established also as a standardized breed. The breed was formerly unknown outside of Thailand, but is gaining notice in the Western world. They are also known as a Mah Thai Lang Ahn (transliteration, dog Thai back readable) . Wikipedia
Oh, that dog is GORGEOUS!! :hubba::hubba::hubba:

Eleanor, I am sorry to hear this news. If I had to give my cat a shot, I'd be hurting more than her, that is a fact.

Thank you, Kay. Trust me, it's actually much easier than you'd think (the hardest part for tired ol' me is doing the shots twelve hours apart -- I sometimes don't stay awake for 12 whole hours in a day!)

Bronze warned ya about cutting off all yer hair. :)

Ah but that's where the training comes in...
To some extent yeah. Obviously I'll do my best, but she definitely favors the husky. Luckily have plenty of experience with them. Fun awesome dogs but sooooo easily bored. 8 hours of alone time can mean big consequences for the owners. I'd rather her just like her crate and know I have that option as needed.

We still have them here, but very few and most are in need of repair. The kid on the phone was a pretty good NY prik too. Colin Farrel

It's not always an easy solution. Keeping them at the vet is expensive and hate to keep them there for any length of time. Not exactly quality living for a kitty when they're taken out of THEIR home. Perhaps they can stay with a friend which is not as bad as a vet. Best if someone can come to your house and give her the shot twice a day. It's really not hard to learn how to give a cat a shot. They don't even blink an eye when you do it. I think there are some places that would come to your home and administer meds but not sure how much that costs.

We're less than one hour away from the moment 216 years ago that the father of our country passed away. This piece was put out today and details some modern thoughts as to how the General died.

From National Constitution Center....

On December 14, 1799, George Washington died at his home after a brief illness and after losing about 40 percent of his blood. So what killed the 67-year-old former President?

Different theories emerged. In 1917, one doctor theorized that Washington died from diphtheria, and a decade later, another theory arose that Washington suffered from “septic sore throat, probably of streptococcic origin, associated with acute edema of the larynx.”

But in recent years, a different theory emerged. Dr. Howard Markel, writing for PBS.com last year, summarized the findings, citing research from Dr. David Morens in the New England Journal of Medicine.

“In the 215 years since Washington died, several retrospective diagnoses have been offered ranging from croup, quinsy, Ludwig’s angina, Vincent’s angina, diphtheria, and streptococcal throat infection to acute pneumonia. But Dr. Morens’s suggestion of acute bacterial epiglottitisseems most likely,” said Markel.

Not everyone agrees with that theory, with inflammatory quinsy, or a peritonsillar abscess, as another possible killer.

“However none of these diagnoses quite fit the description of Washington’s terminal illness but on the other hand acute epiglottitis does explain all of his symptoms and his demise. His illness is a classic ‘textbook’ case of acute epiglottitis,” wrote Dr. White McKenzie Wallenborn, for the University of Virginia back in 1997.

Another debate has centered on the massive blood letting and the ignored suggestion of a tracheotomy as possible main contributors to Washington’s death. Morens said back in 1999 that the bloodletting likely didn’t kill a man of Washington’s size, and the little-used tracheotomy was only occasionally successful.

“The truth of the matter is that they did the best they could, against a pathologically implacable foe, using now antiquated and discredited theories of medical practice,” Markel said.
