I love banana peppers. If you plant them close to jalapeno though, it warms them up. The bigger they get, the hotter they get. Maybe it was just my soil. I used to only plant Tam jalapeno there for a while, as they are more mild, and it was easier for the kids to eat. My daughter hates hot peppers, but my son loves them. The Tam jalapeno used to be found easily around here, but now I rarely see them for sale. Also we used to get Sweet 100 tomatoes, and the first ones they came out with were so tasty! The first two years or so that I planted them, they were super sweet. My dad's garden used the same plants but his were not nearly as good as mine. Later I kept planting them, and they were never that good again. I think somebody was tinkering with them, as they are a hybrid if I remember right.
I like warm peppers, but not five alarm fire peppers. I would like to plant some tobasco and cayenne. I never see the tobasco pepper plants here. I like them in the bottle soaked in vinegar. I'd rather make my own, and it is cheaper. I also like fresh cucumber that has marinated in vinegar for at least 24 hours. The weather has been so bad here, I have given up growing vegetables. (for now) It is either too wet, or a drought with too much heat. City water does not make plants
thrive without rain too. Last year we skipped from winter to summer. Your plants can't get a good root system, and they will wilt in that kind of heat. Once the heat hits here, most tomatoes don't do worth a flip. However the cherry tomatoes seem to still do well, as long as you water them. What works here, may not work in other areas. I am just speaking from my perspective.
