I'll tell you what I could buy the parts for. You decide if the price is fair.

Pads..aprox $35 per side. Both sides = $70 (these would be high quality pads)
Rotor...aprox $50 each (again, high quality parts). Both sides = $100
Brake fluid $10
Add $15 to ship above parts.

I could do the job in 90 - 120 minutes. That includes swapping out the parts plus brake bleed.

FYI: Front brakes do 80-90% of the braking. The rear brakes are applied just enough to keep your vehicle from fishtailing.
Pads were $100 for both. Rotor was $15 total. Brake fluid was $85. All parts genuine Toyota - which just means they cost more. Labor was $200. Considering they have a high capacity lift and I don’t, plus I wouldn’t know how to do it and I don’t live in your neighborhood… I’m gonna say I’m happy with it. :)

Hi gang. Been laying low of late. As a long term smoker, I'm going in for my second annual low dose CT Scan in a couple weeks to check for any early signs of lung cancer. The first one last year showed no signs. My insurance plan pays for it. Finished PMing all my outdoor equipment so I'm done fooling with that for a year. One of my first projects when it warms up a bit is to finish sealing the cracks in my driveway. I did almost half of it in November then it got too cold for that sealant to properly set up. So I need to finish the job in the Spring. I'd rather fix what's there before it's too late versus ripping out and replacing the entire driveway. Screw that! It's a concrete driveway.
Your diligence is inspiring. There was a recent news item that some lady in FL listed her unoccupied house for sale and some scammers sent a crew to steal her driveway! That’s one of the craziest things I’ve heard.

What the heck would they do with it? Use it to weigh down dead bodies? Not like you can pop a driveway up like legos and move it.

I think you meant the rotor was $85 and the fluid was $15. Not only do shops charge labor but they also upcharge parts by quite a bit...double or triple. The Toyota OEM parts will be good parts. OEM is frequently better than most aftermarket parts...and always better than the cheap Chinese crap. Gotta know what you're looking for with aftermarket. In today's inflationary times the $476 probably isn't far off. $476 bought you a complete four wheel brake job about 20 years ago. That was then, this is now.

The article wasn’t clear on that point. Someone claiming to have authority over the property called a crew to rip up the driveway. The scam seemed to be that you’d have to hire the scammer to replace it, or that the scammer could then lowball an offer on the property. It was only happening on unoccupied houses for sale.

Has anyone else noticed that news articles are poorly written and clear as mud?

I wish poorly written was all they were. Most reporting is out and out lying, distracting, or omitting real news.

    Here’s an explanation:

Why would someone hire a contractor to do work on someone else's house? According to WFTV9, it's called an "overpayment scam" and contractors are actually the intended victims. The idea is to find a home listed for sale—on Zillow, Realtor.com, or any other real estate listing site—and hire a contractor to do some exterior work to the property. It could be a roofing job, a driveway removal, or even painting the exterior. Once the contractor and scammer agree to a price, the scammer will send a check for more than the agreed-upon price. Then, they'll reach out to the contractor, saying there was a mistake on the check, and ask for the extra money to be refunded. If the contractor sends cash to refund the difference and then cashes the check, the check will bounce and the scammer will make off with the difference.

Geez Louise, that is a lot of work for them to do for that. They could just do the work and make honest money.

A variation of that same scam was tried on me a few years ago. I listed something for sale and immediately someone wanted to buy it. Then they say they are out of state but can arrange for it to be moved by a company. They want to pay the asking price 'plus' the amount for the movers. They wanted me to pay the movers when they came for pick up. At first I thought it might be legitimate since they were paying via cashiers check. I did some checking and found out it is a scam.

That’s insane! And you’re so right - just use that energy and ingenuity to be productive and helpful. Ugh. And GRRRRR!
