Say Lori @LAwaters, My 12 year old laptop is about kaput. I used it every day so I have no room to complain. I got another ASUS. Will be here Saturday. I'll need Excel, Word, and an email app. I see most (if not all) MS Office packages have Excel, Word, and Powerpoint but I see nothing for email. Educate me here. Where do I get email? Remember, It's been 12 years since I looked at any of this and I'm sure everything is changed. I'm still using that copy of Excel/Word/PP you gave me.
So funny you mentioned the copy of Office! I just thought of that a couple days ago and wondered if you still used it.

All Office packages include Outlook for email. It’s an app you can download, or you can use it within your web browser. I prefer the app and the version they call Classic. The New Outlook is problematic but it mostly works okay. I use it for its business features.

As an alternative, there’s Mozilla’s Thunderbird, which used to be free and maybe still is. I used it for years and loved it. It’s just the basics and it did them well. I need to go see whether it’s still around.

Edit: Yep it is. And still free. This article mentions some other email apps too. (Outlook for Windows comes installed on Windows PCs. I don’t use that version.)

Oh wow. Great information. I believe I’m getting Windows 11 so I’ll look for it. I’m also intrigued with the Mozilla one. Especially with your seal of approval. I already use Firefox. I like simple. Thanks Lori, I knew I could count on you.

I hope you enjoy your new gear! Even after all these years of getting new computers, I still love the unboxing and the set up. I’m like a little kid at Christmas.

I just replaced my 4 year old laptop. Had to because it wasn’t the best graphics card and Photoshop was starting to object to it by refusing to run. Costco had a Lenovo Legion 5i on sale. Never been into gaming or the dedicated laptops for it, but this one is also good for graphics work. I’m loving it.

I hate it. I’m no IT tech and it takes me forever to get it where I want it. I downloaded Thunderbird and it keeps rejecting my information when I try setting up an account Pissing me off. No idea what it doesn’t like that I’m giving it.

UPDATE: OK, 3 mins after I made this post I got Thunderbird to accept my email account. I put the security field on “auto detect” and it worked. Only thing is the incoming detected “none” so I went back and changed it to SSL/TLS and it took it.

Also, can I take your Excel/Word/PP from my old laptop to my new laptop? It still works good but I don’t know how to transfer it to my new laptop.
I can’t remember exactly, but I think I sent you an installer file or a download link. You’d need to have that and do a new install of it on your new laptop. There’s no way to just move apps over that I know of.

You’ll need the license key I sent you too. If you don’t have that, let me know. I probably still have it in my notes. Which version of Office is it?

My email app erased all my email messages the other day including all the ones I saved. No idea why. But I know that email you sent me with the links to the cloud and all that are vanished now. Grrrrrrr. So to the extent you can dig all that up again I'd appreciate it. It was Office 2010. I don't think they even support it anymore but I don't care. It still works for now.

No problem! I’ve found the product key. Just need to find the install file.

Evening.. Been a nice weekend. I should have mowed the yard and got the leaf blower out. The wind was blowing so the blower didn't get used. And I figured I'd wait a couple more days to do the yard. Should mow it before the leaves anyway. My blood word showed my PSA was up a little. So I had to see the Doctor again and he's sending me to a urologist. I should hear from them next week to make an appointment.

Yep, take no chances. Early detection is everything.

Afternoon.. Upper 70s for the next few days. I got the yard mowed. Not going to do any leaf blowing yet. To much wind today and the forecast is for rain Thursday. Plus the trees still have a lot of leaves. Besides the mower mulched a lot of the leaves.. Maybe next week....

I counted 4 excuses why you didn’t blow leaves and guessing none of them are the real reason.

Never do today things you can put off till next week.

Afternoon.. Hope everyone is doing well... Been a nice weekend. I was able to get the blower out and work on the leaves... I have most of them to the curb. Now we'll see what the wind does. I'll likely have to work on them some more. The TV I use with my desktop is having a problem. The power brick overheated this morning and shut down. It still works but I can only use it for 10 mins or so. Then I have to turn it off to cool down. I found some on Amazon. Order on for $13 that should be here tomorrow. If that doesn't fix it I'll buy a new monitor.

This cat of ours is the smartest pet I've ever had. I've thought this for a long time. You're gonna think I'm nuts but this thing can count. Yes, he can count! I always give him four kitty treats. As soon as he's done with the fourth one he immediately starts licking his chops as he walks away. I tried some experiments recently. Instead of giving him four, I gave him three. He gobbled up the three and it took him a good three minutes to stop looking for the fourth one. Then another time I gave him five but the fifth one I put about three feet away from the other four. He gobbled up the four and didn't even bother looking for the fifth one. I'm beginning to think he's smarter than some humans I know.
