Yes, the red x will set you up on a scheduled update to Win10. They knew that people would fall for it. That is exactly why they did it.![]()

I've heard they are doing it for nefarious reasons (easier for marketers to track our usage, etc_). But that might just be hearsay. Lori might know.but the real question is WHY does windoze want you to upgrade??? what are they putting on your pooter that benefits them??
why would they go to all the expense of creating a series of files for free??
KK, I don't think it's ever going to stop raining there. It just goes on and on and on.Retic, I tried running a Linux live off of a usb flash drive. It wasn't doing right for me. But that was months ago. Now I hear you have to be able to disable the secure boot in some of the newer Windows computers. Some computers won't let you disable it. (maybe you could if you were a computer geek) I am not looking at doing this until things settle down around here.
The weather is so bad here in my state. I am praying I don't have to evacuate again. TX, LA, and OK have had enough rain. I am about in panic mode right now. (again) Today I hear next week we have more substantial rain on the way. The movie Waterworld comes to mind.
CPU ? Isn't that a TV drama about a Hospital ?
And screw RAM, I'm a Ford man. F-150 all the way !
Or, in other words, what language are you speaking ?
CPU = Central Processing Unit, i.e. processor
RAM = Random Access Memory, i.e. Memory
What retic needs to know: What processor is inside your PC and how much memory have you got.
He's looking for something like Intel Celeron <somelettersandnumbers> or Intel Core i<somelettersandnumbers> or
AMD Athlon <something> (or something completely different) for CPU and something like "2GB" or "512MB" of memory for RAM
If you don't know it might help to tell him what the exact name of your PC is - like "Dell Inspiron 2300".
I'm sure there are tools that you just run and that tell you what you got - but since I'm not a Win guy I'll leave that for someone else to recommend
Good morning army!
PS: GB= Gigabyte, MB= Megabyte; sorry, we computer guys love abbrev's![]()
Sorry, laptopwhats a labtop??
b&p are at the other ends of the keyboard![]()

Tripping?was delivering things today... pretty much useless oddball stuff that Office Depot sells online and then I began to look at ALL of the things that humanity has built, roads, buildings, sewers, signs, stop lights, streets, cars, empty abandoned buildings, useless vehicles on the side of the road filled with potholes... and began to realize that we have way too much stuff..
next time you take a ride thru a city... look ( and I mean LOOK) at all the stuff that has been done, built, assembled and then think about its true purpose and was it really needed???
KK, I don't think it's ever going to stop raining there. It just goes on and on and on.
Now that you mention it, I saw some clips on the news (I believe it was yesterday) of the flooding in Germany.Tell me about it. It's been raining here for days (and this is NOT England) - that disastrous flooding pictures from lower bavaria is less than 20 miles away from my home town. My mom's safe, she hasn't even heard the news yesterday when I called her and she said it was actually quite a sunny day there. Crazy weather everywhere it seems.
Hope all of you are safe, be it in NC, Texas or wherever![]()

At some point, you and or retic should put the instructions on a thread in this subforum. Start by outlining the information that is needed, then how to load it (pros and cons for the different methods), and other useful info. Otherwise, we'll be coming to you one at a time over the next 12 months and wear yourasses out. I learned this from teaching people kayfun builds. I finally made a tutorial and just link it now.sounds like a pretty up-to-date machine to me. however I'm outta the hardware game and haven't installed anything but stock Linux Mint or Ubuntu in a while, so I leave the call to Retic who seems to do that more often than I am
But my 2ct:
If I were you I would go for the current Linux Mint with Cinnamon Desktop (there are different user interface "flavors" for less powerful machines, afaik Cinnamon is the most advanced and "beautiful").
Download the 64bit image from the Linux Mint homepage, burn that image to a DVD and boot from that DVD to get a first glimpse. You can install from there later as well (or right away).
Don't know any good HowTos and don't know if you know how to boot from a CD/DVD, but here's the first thing I could find:
How to Install Linux Mint
Then again, Retic to the rescue![]()
Thanks for the info, appreciate that.. yes I will also see what retic thinks as wellsounds like a pretty up-to-date machine to me. however I'm outta the hardware game and haven't installed anything but stock Linux Mint or Ubuntu in a while, so I leave the call to Retic who seems to do that more often than I am
