Morning... Was told to stay home.. Guess the linehaul trucks had trouble getting back to the yard. So I guess i'll see about getting taxes done. Then go to PetSmart and Costco. One of my hearing aids has a static sound. So I've been using my old ones this week. That'll be a couple things I won't have to do on Saturday.

Then and now...

2 pack matte anti-glare 13.3 inch screen protectors. They don’t specify the Yoga 6, but if the diagonal measure is 13.3 and the aspect ratio is 16:9, the reviews say it works well.

https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Compatible-Inspiron-Chromebook-ZenBook/dp/B078SSYN7F

I don't know the aspect ratio, can you give me a hint when that could be found?

If you get them... being the kool kid you are... you’d look kool like this guy but better. :D

Certainly older :thumb:

Severe cold for at least a week here. Rain, mixed precipitation, ice, snow possibilities too. A couple of days the highs will be in mid to high 20's. The artic blast has already begun. But two nights will be even colder. One night they say will get to 12 deg. That is not factoring in the wind chill. Some places are used to that, but here we are not. We have had a lot of rain, and spring blooming plants and trees had already started to bloom. So this will be even worse for them.

Yes Bronze the competition here for the internet is awful. When I say throttle, I mean you cannot load a web page most of the time. You cannot get a speed test at all, unless you use the Netflix one maybe. So yes it is unacceptable. Last night it went off a few mins after 5p instead of a bit later.

If you all have not been to LBRY tv online, you should check it out. More and more people are going there. Some of the channels are very good. But then again, some are to be avoided. But you can certainly learn a lot, if you would like. Take care all.

I confirmed it for you. Your model is 16:9 aspect ratio. Most laptops are.

You can usually find the info in the display adapter software or in the Win display adapter dialog, possibly on the Advanced screen.

Simply stated, it refers to the fact that your screen is wider than it is tall.

One more time you come through, thank you very much. I am off to make a purchase from a most despised person, a man with unrestrained greed and avarice - Jeff Bezos.

This little jewel has an SSD which absolutely fly's. A Win 10 boot up is seconds rather than minutes. I have read that they are somewhat constrained by the number of r/w cycles. To minimize that I installed a RAM disk for browser cache and temporary files. I moved all of my documents, downloads and the like to a very small profile USB drive. I know those suffer from the same limits as the SSD but they are cheaper and easier to replace.
I have altered my back ups some in anticipation of disk failure, either the internal or external drives.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Open the cabinets under your bathroom and kitchen sinks overnight on those super cold nights.

You’ve covered your bases nicely. Nothing else comes to mind in terms of speed boost or backup protection.

A Side Note:
For the PMTA filing, I bought two Lenovo IdeaPad 3’s. They have modest specs as far as processor and RAM. The work being done made for a perfect “head to head” with my Flex with double the RAM and a newer i5 processor. All have SSDs.

The task was running a scripted data merge in Excel and outputting 3200 PDFs. Started each machine and timed them to completion.

The IdeaPad 3’s were significantly faster than the Flex! A key reason is that they were clean installs with only Office 365 installed. The Flex was fully loaded for my day to day work — fonts, apps, utilities.

My conclusion is that keeping a laptop as clean as you can with only the apps, etc., you truly need helps to keep it fast. (Win 10 bogs it down quite enough.)

Excel is a resource hog all on its own too. After each run through 3200 PDFs, I had to reboot thanks to memory leaks — partly in the script, but also due to Excel itself.

I use WordPerfect for documents and LibreOffice Calc for spreadsheets. For my modest work Calc saving to an Excel file has worked well for me. [Task Manager tells me that it is not a hog. It is much much lighter a foot print than is FireFox.]
I send spreadsheets of property divisions off to lawyers for review and 'corrections'. I love Excel but it is getting too costly for my likes and my needs, LibreOffice is FREE (that will awaken the General from his afternoon siesta). Microsoft fixed my Enterprise 2007 so that it really didn't work well for me. I had to find a substitute.
I doubt I will ever give up WordPerfect, love those RevealCodes. Makes formatting and changing formatting a breeze - plus I know it well I've used it since 1990 when I had to give up WordStar.
Thanks for your help.

Afternoon.. Well that took 4 hours, but it was worth it because I only have one store to go to Saturday. :thumb: The last time my hearing aid had static it was the receiver that was bad. They can replace that. But this time it's something internal. So it's back to Resound for a warranty repair. And my rule is if one goes back they both go. The other one needs the battery door replaced anyway. So I'm using my old ones until I get them back in about 2 weeks.

I think that their Student Office is a one time, outright purchase. That is, you aren't paying by the year, and includes Excel. If it isn't too late, you might look it over.

I used WordPerfect back before the GUI. It was fantastic for the control you had in formatting. Customer service was just the best.

If I had my way, I would use DOS. I had WordStar, Lotus 123, and Borland Reflex Database. Everything always worked, a 20Mega, yup Megabyte drive and I liked fooling with config.sys and autoexec.bat files. If you mess up, you shut it down and started over.
As to Student Office, I have gotten used to using Calc, getting old and set in my ways. Plus, back in '07 I bought Office Enterprise edition. I thought I would be set but Microsoft, got me by stopping support. I didn't need their 'support' I just needed the program to work, it quit working and I gave up on MS but for Win, a true love of my digital life.
When I finally quit all work, I'll go Linux exclusively. I have an old machine with it installed. I play with it and am learning - slowly. It is fabulous, speed, rock solid stable and kind of fun. (I tried dual booting what a disaster, Windows screwed every thing so badly that I gave up and did a clean install of Win 10.) WordPerfect and a research program I have to use have me chained to Windows.

I love these “Then and Now” pics!

Scruffy had a good sized belly even in that earlier pic. The signs that he’d be a big boy were there.

There also seems to be a tendency in him to just love exposing his big, hairy belly. Must be a “guy thing.” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey Arm! A dark ugly one here today.

Mornin', General. Here, too. I brought the generator inside a while back (the KC debacle) to keep the oil warm. I decided as the as the ice came to leave it, it very fashionable. So far, we still have power but a lot of folks don't.

Well they extended the cold spree. We will be getting record breaking cold. Last night one place said 3 deg for one night, the other said 7 deg. This is with a North wind, and the wind chill will be way below that. I have never seen such a long cold streak here, with highs that are freezing and lows at or near record lows. It has already started a few days ago. But will carry on until at least Thurs. The wind chill right now is ten deg lower than the actual temperature. The winds will be up to 15-20 mph some days. It is already super cold for here. There was a major pile up in Ft. Worth yesterday. I think black ice was part of the issue. It was dark, and I did not see the start of the wreck. I did see various footage of it though. Quite a few 18 wheelers were involved, and several people lost their life. Many more are in critical condition. I hear various reports of how many vehicles were involved, but it was close to 100. Another pile up of 24 happened too, but that was not in the same location. So if any of you have to deal with this, stay at home if you possibly can. That is what I am doing. I do not plan to drive at all during this time period.
