Sounds like a weekend’s worth of work. I power washed the driveway today. Picked up a load of mulch that I will spread tomorrow. It’s nighty night for now.

Anyone have a good dental insurance for crowns? I’m shopping and besides the wait times, the best I’m seeing is 65% coverage for crowns, with low annual maximums. Like $1,500 per year.

With co-pay for crowns, does the doctor accept the fee cap the insurance sets? So you pay 35% of a reduced fee?

David, I keep forgetting to tell you I’ve been watching the Doctor Who reboot. I’m up to season 9. It was hard to get through that first episode with the mannequins, and I didn’t care for the actor playing the 9th Doctor. Starting with season 2, I really enjoy it. :)

I've been using a dental discount plan with the Perfect Teeth Group. I think they only operate in CO, AZ, and NM, but maybe some group in your area has something similar. It seemed like a better deal for me, as a single adult, than what traditional insurance offers. Most dental insurance I've seen didn't cover adult problems like periodontal treatments or bridges and dentures. With the discount plan, there are no deductibles or copays, just a price.

The annual "subscription" was about $130, and then they discount all procedures from day 1. The last time I had a crown, it was $1500, but I'm sure prices have increased with inflation. I used to pay about $100 for a perio maintenance, but this year it jumped to $150.

There are some plans like this in CA. Was there any trouble with finding participating dental doctors?

I had an emergency visit, X-rays and 2 crowns. Finished up about 2 weeks ago. Total was $4,300. Ouch! In more ways than one.

Perfect Teeth is a chain, so it only works at their locations. In Denver, there are limited locations that have specialists, so you might not always have the specialist in your building. Most of the offices are in strip malls, but there are a lot of them around town. They also take regular insurance like Delta Dental and such, but you have to pay what Insurance allows and can't use the discount plan in combo with insurance.

When I got my crowns, my dentist was able to do them himself, so I didn't have to go somewhere else. I don't think he charged me for an emergency visit when I broke the tooth. I went in, he took a quick look, and we scheduled the appointment (root canals not required). I felt like the visit was mostly so he could plan how much time he would need to schedule for the work and confirm that he could do it himself.

If I had to compare it to insurance, it might be closest to Kaiser's system of captive doctors. The big difference is that the discount is good on any dental service. For example, my health insurance will cover 2 basic cleanings per year, but nothing for a deeper cleaning like perio maintenance 3-4 times per year. The savings on the perio covers the annual subscription after the second visit.

Don't know Lori. I asked him multiple times if he was closing and he said no way. They'll have to drag him away. He makes tea extracts and other stuff too so maybe he hides behind that somehow. He's in CA.

That hurts!

You might want to check out Care Credit too. Zero % interest up to 2 years to pay off. Most dentists offer this promo.

CA is brutal for all things vape. But the small town I’m in has a smoke shop on every block. Hookah lounges and dispensaries too.

Yes Care Credit helped cover some of that. It’s insane that these things should cost so much. Someone posted that they could fly to Barcelona, stay at a hotel, get their root canal and fly home for less than their U.S. dentist wants to charge them.

It's become ridiculous. Crowns $2G now. Implants $2 - 3G. Every time you go to the dentist it's big bucks.

And gold crowns remain the most durable. And I don't think they cost any more. Mine didn't.

Aaaarrrrrgh! I gotta vent. I lovingly planted my new low raised bed on Sunday. Put in my healthy tomato plants nurtured from seeds into strong starts for planting. I wasn’t able to get this particular variety to grow last year.

I had the bed blocked off with large containers and fine garden mesh until I put up the permanent cage.

The 90 lb Rottweiler decided to hop onto the mesh, root it open, and eat the organic compost soil (and the seeds I planted). She also broke off one of those tomato plants.

I’m trying to remember why I bother trying to grow a garden.

How close are you to Mexico? Check into dental work there.
