How about this instead of going in the abused citizen witch will probably do much of nothing. Do a little research. Put together an informative packet with 8x5 glossy photos with circles and arrows on the back ( Only people old enough to appreciate Alice's Restaurant might smile at that.)
Anyway send the packet to the Ranger station with a brief description of you unpleasant interaction. Turn you negative in to a positive for all the vapers who camp there after you.

hmm, interesting and i did google for an answer and all i can find is different Parks have different rules. It is up to the person to find out the rules before going to the park. I am so embarrassed at my question because it was obvious.

carry on :)

It is a sign of your character to admit wrong so quickly and apparently effortlessly. Good form!

Aey upsetting experience in many ways and no fun for you. Very sorry this had to mess with your holiday weekend.

It does emphasize, though, how far behind the curve we though in public awareness and education. To the guy on the street if it is not familiar = then something is wrong = report it. And to law enforcement it unfortunately does look to much like something used to consume ingredients that are a great deal less innocuous than e-juice and does not contain substances one cannot get with a prescription of even some that you can't get illegally even with on. Helps to carry one of those info cards.

As for the beer, I would have it probably did seem that he was just being pissy because he did not get and arrest that day but with National Parks you have to check ahead. Its allowed in some and not in others, some allow possession because the park has a through road on which people commute and like to bring their beer home from the grocery store and others have a 0 tolerance rule. Just like their are someone other NP rules and regulations we never thought of before, but they have, to protect wild animals from humans. He may have been doing you a favor, actually, if alcoholic beverages cannot be consumed there, by just pouring it out. Its a nasty fine for possession and/or consumption. NPs system has a main website with links to every individual ones where they post rules.

I'm by no means an expert on this but it seems obvious to me........ shouldn't law enforcement actively keep up with and research what they're likely to encounter 'on the street' (or in the park in this case)? Or at least receive formal briefings and/or training? Or am I missing the point in that this LEO knew what it was and just wanted to be seen exercising some power?

One of the best thread titles I've seen, btw.

In parts, I think this is the most depressing thread I've ever read on the ECF regarding vaping, our 'ever so benevolent' government, our history and the sacrifice of liberty for a false facade of security!

Hell, we just celebrated Memorial Day! How soon some forget why our heroes died; assuming that the posters knew from the start! Yeah, my bad!

It certainly wasn't to surrender our God given rights. But yet, there are soooo many willing to do just that! I guarantee that my three adult daughters and their families have more 'balls' than all the limp posters here!

PM me if ya want to discuss this further. <click>

I agree, there may be a nasty fine involved.

But when an armed cop takes something away from you without any paperwork, it stops being a confiscation, and becomes an armed robbery.

But that is the crux of it...Why is it illegal to have alcohol in the park? I can see no beers at the Smithsonian, but in the woods...I just don't get it.

I

That's freedom we've been conned out of to "Save The Children".
They did it here for the riverfront, which they built to host parties and concerts. The save the children crowd complained and removed beer, they hung around for a few months to put on a good show of it, now the riverfront is dead.

You would hope but do you want to count on that? We are all members of our community. If we are introducing something thats being misunderstood I think its our responsibility to educate not theirs to just magically know. If we sit back and let others do what we should be doing in the first place we probably wont like how they do it.
This is a classic example here is a great opportunity to educate some people in authority. The confiscated beer is a moot point If you don't like those laws you need to get active politically not say how wrong it is on ECF. But I find it Ironic out of all of the very significant Rights, Freedoms, and quality of life that are under attack buy our legislators people are up in arms about a cocky Ranger taking someones six pack!

Words I live by, promote and served 20 years in the US military to uphold!!! He also said when asked what kind of government the Constitutional Congress delegates created, "A republic, if you can keep it."

As Paul Simon wrote, "Slip Sliding Away"...

You have my admiration and heart felt thanks I spent my Memorial Day signing petitions and emailing senators. I am very up set they are introducing a bill to give illegal immigrants health care and collage tuition and they are turning their back on our Veterans.
I say if there is one Veteran in need then the money needs to go there. Funny system we have these days hu. You can defend your country give some of the best years of your life but when you need something back we will turn our backs to you and give the help to someone who should not be here to begin with!

Some people don't think alcohol and camping and fireworks mix well together. Some people don't want to be around drunken yahoos when they go camping in a public place (not that the OP was a "drunken yahoo.) The point is, if you don't like the no alcohol rule, DON'T GO THERE. There are many places that allow the public consumption of alcohol. That particular National Park was NOT one of them. BTW, that particular park allows alcohol at your individual campsite, but NOT in public areas.

The Park Ranger was trying to do his job, which was to protect EVERYONE'S "rights," not just the "right" of the individual who may or may not be vaping illegal plant material. If you don't like that law, you have the "right" to try and overturn it, through legal ways.

This wasn't the Wild West. Some individual "rights" have to be overruled in order to maintain the safety of the public. You have the "right" to drink in your own backyard, a party or a bar. You do NOT have the "right" to consume intoxicants in places where it is endangering/bothering/impinging upon other individuals. I DO consider myself a person with "balls." I DO know my civil rights, and I stand up against demagoguery, whether it be by the police or anybody else. I also know how to read posted rules. PS: I don't have kids, but I can understand how a parent or other individual could be concerned about someone "apparently" consuming illegal substances and/or alcohol in this PUBLIC place. There is a time and a place...This was neither.

I completely agree with you, I just find it completely and utterly lazy that people in such positions of responsibility and authority cannot research such issues themselves and they have to rely on the general public to fully educate them. In my line of work, if there are any kinds of issues that arise that we MIGHT be expected to deal with someday, the subject is researched and shared across the board without bias. I take the time out of working hours to do further research just because I want to do my job correctly and that includes identifying potential risks and being able to distinguish a threat from something harmless.
