Because polishing S/S to a near mirror finish costs money too, possibly more than just giving it quick brush to remove scratches and spraying it with some lacquer.
I wish they didn't think that bare stainless steel just has to be polished. A brushed finish is more attractive (IMHO), doesn't show scratches as easily, can be done cheaply, and isn't 'slippery'.
It would make sense if the lacquered Vamo was brushed, as the lacquer would then have a textured surface to key into and would be more durable. It would appear more shiny though if it was given quick polish and then lacquered, however the lacquer would be more likely to flake off.
I'm also confused about the term "black chrome" because if it is lacquer as I suspect then 'chrome' has absolutely nothing to do with it. Maybe they think that 'chrome' is a coating, therefore all coatings are 'chrome'?
{Shrug} It's from China where they think everything with a heating element is an atomizer.
