2.5 ohm seems a bit high, especially for a mechanical mod. What's the voltage/wattage setting?

I got it on my vamo ;) Set it to 4 volts

2nd AGA setup with silica came in at 2 ohms and vapes very nicely indeed but I have it set to 3.7 volts I put a juice in it that packs a bit more punch.

I think when I recoil the mesh one I am going to try the 30 Kanthal instead of the 32 or do one less wrap. See if I can bring down the Ohms I usually like to vape between 1.7-2 ohms so yeah 2.5 is a bit high for me.

COuple of lessons learned though with the AGAs.
1. I gotta dial back the nic level on em. MAN what a rush!
and
2. I think I am hooked on rebuildables all around. What a difference.

Neither setup was really all that tough to do. Schnarph I think you are right the silica sleeving over the SS mesh makes all the difference in the world when it comes to the PITA factor of a Genny. I will be ordering a supply to carry me well into the future. I think I used maybe 1/4 inch doing the build. A couple of feet will last forever.

One thing I am not sure of is how big to cut the SS mesh. I did 2 inches x 1.75 inches and had a bad bad time getting it rolled tight enough to fit. I am thinking about trying 1.5 inches going forward.

Well I got one of the AGA-Ts setup and working. SS mesh with a bit of that silica sleeving. 4 wraps of 32 kanthal. I Ended up with 2.5 ohm. It tastes fine but for some reason there is very little throat hit as compared to my other devices. I don't mind but I suspect I got something wrong LOL.

Well done. 2.5Ω seems a little high for 4 wraps though. I generally get about 1.8Ω for 4 wraps of 32g on a Cobra (on just S/S mesh). Did you anneal the wire by torching/heating it? If the wire is oxidised where it goes into the terminal block it may not be making a good contact. Could explain your lack of TH. For a true 2.5Ω coil you'd need to be driving it with about 4.5v.

With the silica sleeve the wraps are larger, more wire = higher ohms, as you well know. That may be part of the issue.

Try some of the 30 gauge Kanthal next time. The same number of wraps should get you to just the right spot. JMO, YMMV.

My 32 gauge Kanthal doesn't get a lot of use compared to other sizes. Is there a chart somewhere on resistance of twisted wires?

Edit: other topic... I wonder how the Lion's date is going?

I found the same thing with bottom coil devices. When I started using the Vapeonly and Protank I had to go from 16mg/ml to 12mg/ml overnight. I did not find the same thing with the Cobra RBAs. Maybe I should try an AGA-T.

All of the CE5 and Vivi stuff has now been consigned to the vapocalypse drawer. I may finish up giving some of it away if I find someone needy enough. I think I got a spare Vivi Nova with my first Protank and never even put any juice in it.

I've still got to get around to rebuilding my Phoenix but it's in daily use at the moment. It's an interesting exercise - I'm going back to some juices that I had problems with before I started DIY. They now taste completely different in the RDA. I can see why they weren't working any more.

Banker's rollie:
A really strong tobacco. No wonder I was getting ashtray mouth. No way I can vape this now, except to remind me why I gave up cigarettes. My tastebuds must have been dead if thought this was pleasant enough to be my favourite vape.

Caramel Cappuccino:
I can taste the caramel now, never could before. It's a bit sickly and clogs up coils though, so not useful for anything except for when I want something different.

Touch of Thai:
Mild tobacco flavour with citrus. Weird, and too acidic

Cherry Cigar:
Way too much cherry, thankfully not much cigar. Actually vapable.

Cinnamon Apple:
Nup, still can't do desert flavours. The flavour is OK, I just don't enjoy vaping it.

PS Tobacco:
Supposed to be Peter Stuyvescent. A weird kind of funky grassy mild tobacco.
I hated this at the time, now I think it's some kind of Chinese RY4. Could vape it if there was nothing else.

All of these flavours were from Aussie Blue, because I could get delivery from NZ in three days. The last order was a panic order when it looked like the Chinese nicotine wasn't going to turn up in time. I realise these reviews aren't really useful to you guys since you're not likely to use this company, I just find it really fascinating to re-visit some of the flavours I started out with, and see how my perceptions of them have changed. Three months on they are all different to how I remembered them.

30 awg (Ω/in) 0.7 ohms
31 awg (Ω/in) 0.9 ohms
32 awg (Ω/in) 1.2 ohms
33 awg (Ω/in) 1.4 ohms
34 awg (Ω/in) 1.8 ohms
35 awg (Ω/in) 2.3 ohms
36 awg (Ω/in) 2.9 ohms

:)

Not "twisted" wires, just straight kanthal. Are you thinking about wrapping some kanthal together?

Thanks, I have the resources for straight and ribbon Kanthal. Yes, I may try twisting some 32 sometime since I rarely use it, I prefer more than 3/4 wraps to heat a wick. 30 and 29 gauge get used the most, and 27 gets occasional use in crazy 10+ wrap microcoils in the larger RDA's. 32g is only useful to me for dual coils, which I don't seem to like much anyways. Most of the round wire is getting the cold shoulder now that I have .5x.1 and .4x.1 ribbon Kanthal. Combining ribbon Kanthal with 2 or 3mm Ekowool is a whole new world.

What will they come out with next? A toaster filled with muffler batting? :p

Alright, now you got me wanting to try the sleeve. I remember the nightmare I encountered with my AGA the first time I tried to build it. Followed Ehumans turorial, did the coil and wick, popped the first two coils, no big deal.

Took the AGA apart a couple of times during the builds, by this time I had a few hours into the AGA. The third coil worked, but the resistance was all over the place. Checked to make sure the screws were tight, no problem there, still the resistance was jumping all over. Finally out of frustration I took the AGA apart again, just to find out that I hadn't screwed the center post tight into the bottom. Doh! Reassembled the cursed thing right, and it worked great.

ok GUys sorry about the long absence the hubby decided 11:30 PM was a good time to do our wally world run. Just got home.

Steve how bad are you going to hate me if I told you both AGAs were a one shot deal. Probably took me 45 minutes tops and that was mostly because I had a fit rolling the SS mesh.

With the sleeve no hot spots at all. Really is a wrap and go.

Fab I upped it to 4.4 and yep its good. 4.5 made the cinnamon in that juice painful LMAO. Also I did anneal the wire. I always do. it probably was a 4/5 wrap now that I think about it.

2.5 shouldn't really have been that surprising since I often hit 2.3 ish on protank heads and end up taking them apart and trying again.

I THINK the DID clone I have on order from Fasttech is another Genny type so I expect I can put it together the same way as these. At least it looked like one when I was ordering. Order was placed before I was able to pick up these 2 AGAs from our buddy Schnarph (TY TY TY TY).

I love how my Vapocalypse term is now turning up all over ECF. TOO funny

Not going to hate you one bit, that was the first time I ever built anything and I expected to pop a coil or two. What I didn't expect was to leave the center post loose causing the resistance to jump all over the place. I still get a smile or chuckle out of thinking about that, and hey I learned a few things in the process. I would have figured it out a lot quicker if I had put juice in the tank though!

The AGA really is pretty user friendly, I also like its sibling the AGI. Oh, and I have banana cream in both of them.

hehehehehe guess you liked it :)

Don't feel bad. WARNING: Incoming funny hubby story
Years ago the hubby cussed and rewired the home theater over and over and over again every night for like 2 weeks.
FInally I asked him what was wrong
He said no sound out of the left speaker
I went over to the speaker held up a loose wire and said "Honey where is this supposed to go?"

I think he invented new words ;)

LOL, that is funny. I find the AGA ordeal rather humorous now, and yeah I like the banana cream.
