Those using the SS crimp tubes, I just got mine in and tried to crimp the NR/R wires together. Had to get my jewelers loupe to even see what I'm doing it's so small! Got the wires crimped together (using the crimp tool) but they pull apart way too easily. Not making a solid tight connection. What's the trick?

I heard something about soldering then crimping, and then it's good...

I would agree that would be a great connection but at that I'd rather just twist. Less work.

Maybe with long lasting wick like mesh, it pays off.

Flatten the little buggers with needle pliers

Twist+crimp seems to be the best bang for the buck. I've had great luck just doing the first twist, crimping that and then cutting off the slack twisted wiring.

edit: I'm not even using a crimper and it's solid, I just use a pair of needle nose pliers.

That works, I put the wires through on either end and then crimp so it is inline and they never ever pull apart. You have to watch that when you bend the crimps for the second part of the crimping process that you are actually folding the crimp tube in half and not just opening it back up. That is the key to the solid and strong connection.

As with anything, practice makes perfect

You don't need to, but it helps with wicking and with keeping the juice under control. I usually jam it in there before I put the mesh in.

I found a way to do it but it's still irritating. I take a strand of the wick and tie a knot on both ends of the wick so it doesn't fall apart

No I am trying the SSMesh. I like the XC-116, I bought it awhile back and it's held up great.

oxidise it with a cig lighter its dirtier and oxidises better than a mapp tank type thing, it works for me
if your using the ceramic as an insulator burn it really well mapp tank and its docile

I use my handheld torch, it works great for oxidizing ssmesh and cleaning the xc-116 wicking.

Rick after you helped me out, I co-op'd with a few people and the results were remarkable. I got the package today and I couldn't use all of this stuff in a year lol.

I'm still using the silver right now though, this stuff is great.

Haha, Silentt! I thought of you today... as I ordered 0.53lbs of Kanthal A1 in 36gauge... I might have a serious iAtty supplies addiction 8-o

I have too much stuff and I can't even keep my iAtty from not leaking. I just empty it every night before I goto sleep so it doesn't leak out all over my desk.

Thats really strange, mine never leak. There should be something wrong.

Yeah I ordered new o-rings and a new bottom plastic piece, if that doesn't fix the problem I will try the o-ring fix or wait for a new top plastic. It doesn't leak when I'm using it just when I sit it down for a long period of time(goto work for 8 hours/sleep for the night)
