Call me confused but...
Isn't temperature control the same thing as adjusting the wattage on your mod and building a coil so the upper limit max is ideal for what you want.
Ok... So I understand the use of a specific wire as many hot plates require that (an electric stove for instance requires a specific coil in a specific burner) but to get a true non thermal regulated temperature control you would need an upper and lower voltage range (Delayed pulse width regulation maybe).

So, if I fully understand the dna 40 set-up basically for me to get the performance out of the mod I can only use a singular type of wire (Nickle Chromium 200) and even then if it miss judges my set up incorrectly then it will not work as specified however I can build my coil set up with Kanthal as I wish and with using the proper oHm's to achieve the vape temperature I wish. I think I'll stick with non thermal regulated mods for now so I have the freedom to use what type of wire I want, lord knows I've got maybe 1K feet of various kinds laying around.

Just a thought on this, or rather personal view of it all.

Not gonna lie, if the DNA40 is setup properly, the temperature regulation will extend coil and wick life, virtually eliminate dry hits and will be on paper, "safer". However, I am of strong belief that the health benefits of temp regulation are negligible, and is simply a ploy to answer to the government for certain questionable studies done where an e-cig was purposely dry hit to show how it can be harmful. Bottom line, if it affects the government's income, they'll do something about it.

Have you ever seen a DNA40 in action? It will quick fire at something really high (say 30 watts, then immediately scale itself down into the 7-8 watt range to sustain the desired temperature). This is something that conventional VV/VW mods cannot do.

No, I am not saying that. You are implying that I'm saying that.
I just don't think that the "give me candy or I hurt myself" attitude is ok to be presented on a forum where young people might begin to vape even thou they are not smokers. Also I don't think that people vaping are looking at the health issue with a critical eye.
Remember the good ol' days of smoking? Back in the day, doctors were recommending smokes, as something good for your health.
Just because you don't know how it's bad for you, and you don't feel it yet, doesn't mean it isn't. I'm not saying it is either, just that research isn't done at the moment, and the general attitude in the vaping community should be more of "don't vape if you don't smoke, and vape JUST TO QUIT SMOKING, try to quit vaping after you quit smoking as soon as possible".
On the other side of fear mongering are the people that have something to gain from this industry :)
As well as those that have invested a lot of energy and money into vaping. They need security, they need to feel/know that they made the right choice.
We are addicted to the nicotine drug, just like others are addicted to caffeine or ........ There's nothing worthy in that.
Most people seem to have forgotten the purpose of vaping. It is like a nicotine patch. And shouldn't be more until further research is done!
I am not saying we (the ones that are addicted to nicotine, not anyone else) shouldn't vape. I only say that we should vape as long as necessary to help us QUIT nicotine altogether.
See my point? There's no fear mongering here. Only caution.
Yes, vaping is safer than smoking, but shouldn't be necessary in the first place.

I didn't start vaping to quite smoking, thought that happened, and this "we" has no intention to quite vaping anytime in the foreseeable future. Sorry "we" don't fit your plan.

I am curious what "QUIT nicotine altogether" means and why that would be beneficial?

I completely agree -- even a 20w mod would be WAYYYYYYYYY overkill for me! But I might get a Vamo v6 because of the adjustable hit-duration feature.

100w is for lightbulbs -- for that matter, so is 40w, if you want it dim. 40w would be good for stereo speakers! I certainly don't want to inhale anything using that much power.

Don't buy the v6 or v7 based on that.. The specs say more but the longest I can set the v7 for is 12 seconds.. I think it states it goes to 20 or 30 but nope, 12 is it..

100 watts is for my Marshall amp!! Ive seen what that power and voltage can do if it goes wrong repairing guitar amps. I dont wanna get knocked through a wall.. I've tried hitting the v7 at even 20w (with a 1.5 ohm KFL) and all it did was burn the crap out of my throat.. Tried 40w ONCE, nope. That was brutal, and burned my wick in half..

No intention to quit vaping, no intention to quit nicotine. I have quit smoking, because vaping is better, safer, and cheaper, and the smell doesn't offend my husband or family. Is it 100% safe? Nope. Neither is getting out of bed in the morning, consuming caffeine, riding around in an automobile, or driving faster than the posted limit. I'm not going to stop doing any of those things either, and I really *like* sugar.

Not to be rude but no I don't think you understand how the DNA 40 works at all.

What ever do you mean "true non thermal regulated temperature control"?

You do have the freedom to use what type of wire you want and if that's what matters to you enjoy.

So that's a rubbish claim for the adjustable hit-duration? Good to know. I've been waffling between a v6 and another mech, and I think that tilts me toward that mech I've been eyeing. :thumb:

Completely agree. I have on one or two occasions gone as high as 13.5w, chasing throat hit, but it also makes it so hot on my lips I have to turn it back down under 12w; usually prefer about 10w-10.5w, though I "break in" fresh wicks or cartos at about 9w-9.5w, just to make sure it's all working right before I turn it up. I've only gone that high recently, when I discovered that some of my DIY juices really pop with a little more power; I used to stay around 9w all the time.

I had a bad "wicking issue" the other day on mine.. Something not right with a fresh 1.9 ohm coil that was making the Vamo 'whine' electrically at 12 watts. Burned one of the tails off it turns out, stupid me kept vaping it before checking it.. I've got a nice row of really gross white blisters all across the inside of my upper lip. What the hell do people need 50/100/200 watt mods for??? All it takes is one slip up or glitch and you're in scorched earth territory..

The only time people vape at 50+ watts in on a dripper or very airy tank. At the airflow levels these have the atomizer doesnt get hot. Its nothing like putting on a Nautilus or Kayfun to 50, 70 or 100 watts and blasting away.
Some of these drippers wide open you wont even feel like youre vaping if its under 50 watts, they are so airy they need a lot of power.
When used this way the vape can be as cool as a Nautilus at 10w, its not this lava vapor that people who dont have experience with it think it is :)

Well it sounds pretty awful to me; a "really airy" draw, to me, translates to "trying to smoke a straw." I hate it! I have the airflow on my Kayfuns almost completely closed; I also use a cartotank, though I do tend to loosen it somewhat on the Vamo, or there's really no airflow at all. Something about the way the UDCT sits on the flat vamo v2; if I put the UDCT on one of my vv3s, then no problem, perfectly reasonable airflow, if you like a tight draw -- which I certainly do; it's supposed to mimic smoking, not huffing on a tailpipe.

I'm a diehard KFL fan but my first RDA will be here tomorrow, an Infinite Magma clone, so it'll be interesting to see the difference. That's why I figured the 40 watts may come in handy. I have a bottle of some 6mg green apple waiting in anticipation hehe.. Now if only my KF4 would arrive!!!

Theyre definitely not geared toward mouth to lungers :) Thats the beauty of vaping though, theres something to cater to everyone.

The Magma is a good choice for someone such as yourself coming off something like a KFL. It doesnt take much wattage to get a nice warm dense vape and can go from really restrictive for mouth to lung, to fairly open (but still a little restrictive in terms of drippers) for lung inhales.
Lots of flavor too.

That's the thing -- just because some people just love their high-VG or high wattage vaping, doesn't mean it's for everyone -- I'm sure most folks would find my 80%-85% PG quite irritating, so I don't go around trying to convince them it's the "best way" to vape -- that would be even more irritating!!! ;)

Absolutely. While I prefer 70pg in tanks and max VG on drippers, I buy my mom higher PG for the throat hit and less vapor production, trying to get her to finally quit cigs altogether.
I accidently bought myself 80pg once instead of 80vg, that was fun in my dripper lol

You're a good son. :) (eek. I just realized that I don't actually know if you're a good son or a good daughter! Pardon!) When I told my son on the phone that I had quit smoking by vaping, he says "WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY MOTHER?!?" Because nobody that knows me at all could EVER have expected this. :D If your mom really wants to quit, she can do it, especially with your help. I truly never thought I'd quit at all, even after watching my dad die of lung cancer -- but e-cigs changed everything. :thumb:

Dont worry, you got it right the first time :)
I originally got her just a Vision Spinner and Protank 2 which she never used, after getting her a iStick and Kayfun with a nano kit she dropped from almost a pack a day to only smoking a couple at night, most of the time only smoking half. Now to get her away from those couple a night and we're there!
Her husband smokes like a train and is completely against even trying a ecig, wont even take one drag to try it, and complains about the "smell" (a smoker, complaining about the smell of ejuice) which doesnt help...his dad died of lung cancer, his dads dad died of lung cancer...youd think he'd be a *little* more receptive to possibly saving his life, at the very least support your frickin wife who wants to save hers instead of bring her down.
Sorry had to vent, that situation just pisses me off.

Well, you know, most smokers who seem to have a chip on their shoulder about vaping, I think they're afraid it won't work for them, like all the other NRT crap doesn't work. But there are some that I really think are afraid it REALLY WILL work, which would remove their last excuse for continuing to smoke -- the impossibility of quitting. When you've lived with something for DECADES, the thought of not having it anymore is downright terrifying, and those who've never tried vaping don't grasp how it can fill that space, all they can see is the lack, not the gain.

Many people scoff at AA -- despite the fact that it's the only thing that ACTUALLY DOES WORK to enable one to quit drinking -- it's always, oh, that won't work for me, when they haven't even tried it to find out. Or they find something "ridiculous" about the idea of sharing their innermost secrets with total strangers. By putting down AA, they're somehow bolstering their own self-worth -- they're not some weak-willed alcoholic, no sir, they can quit on their own! But unless they get dead, committed, or jailed, many of them finally do show up at AA. It seems a very similar situation with e-cigs -- some smokers will give you that ol "I'd rather just quit cold turkey" -- alas, that rarely works out. If they're very fortunate, perhaps they'll discover vaping BEFORE the doc gives them some grim news.

Young people pick up smoking mainly because it makes them "cool. Or similar social reasons.
It would be a shame if someone picked up vaping in the first place because of those reasons. Seeing all the shiny high tech toys out there...one might think that that could happen. Add the "flavour hype" to that and one could see how a young person might get interested in vaping.
Sure, make them vape if they badly need to inhale something to be cool, instead of smoking.
If I had anything to say, I'd ban smokes altogether. I am not advocating for either side (vapers vs big tabacco corporations). I'm just trying to remind everyone what vaping should be all about, until we know more about it! Is that so hard for you to understand? Vaping should be used as a last resort for people who try to quit smoking. After we find out what's what with vaping, and if it's safe, then ok, everyone should vape if it makes them feel better.
I just don't like the way flavours and flavour reproduction is being looked at. That should have less of an importance in this community. And don't tell me that if you don't feel your favourite aroma in vaping you default to smokes. That's low! Smokes have a hell of a taste, and if vaping only VG or even PG (if it works for you) gives you the nicotine you need, I don't see why you'd go back to smokes. It's like you're not even trying hard enough.
That's a childish attitude, bad for other kids to be looking at.
All of you should get your priorities straight! Smoking is bad, vaping COULD be bad! Not inhaling anything is the safest bet right now.
Who knows, maybe research could reveal that it's even beneficial to vape some kind of chemicals that are good for the human body. But until that happens, I'm an advocate for safety.
