There's something about one's smoking that I think is way too individual and personal for others--even best friends and loved ones who themselves are/were smokers--to understand well enough to offer guaranteed useful advice. Different people get different things, physically and emotionally, out of their smoking habits. Some see more to lose than others from abandoning their present habits, even in favor of something said to provide in a different way what they get from their cigarettes.

This is very true. One of the reasons that cigarette addiction is so tough is that there are SO many different things in play - multiple chemical dependencies, compulsive addictions, even cues of when you wake, sleep, and eat. It's a total package of how to modulate your life.

And since, for some, it can be mind-enhancing rather than mind-impairing like most addictive drugs, that just adds one more reason why people can't or won't let smoking go.

I know one of the things I was worried about in switching was become depressed and unstable - because every time I quit, no matter what method I used, it happened EVERY time. It took me weeks of reading before I was brave enough to think it could work for me.

It's important that we remember that most of us didn't want to stop being smokers, we just wanted to stop inhaling all of the toxins! If vaping was about quitting smoking behavior, we would be fighting the nicotine addiction in a non-smoking way. Instead we chose a behavior which allows us to still be "smoking." (Think of how many people join ECF and their #1 question is, "What looks and tastes most like an XYZ brand cigarette?"

Most of us are still smokers in spirit.

I don't know. Maybe it's in the delivery?

Anyhow, regarding my mom - the thing is, she MADE all off those arguments to us for YEARS when we still smoked. That is the irony. She KNOWS all of this and I'd just be saying to her what she said to me!
