I am 29 american that started at age 20 and I direct inhale. I tried mouth inhale but my mouth must not be very big because I could never get enough smoke!

I think you will find menthol smokers tend to direct inhale and regular tends to mouth inhale.

I find that I prefer to direct inhale my True menthol and mouth the other flavours, my sister direct inhaled when she smoked menthol analogs.

Yeah I think its because of the cooling effect it has on the back of the throat. I started on menthol and smoked menthols for the almost 10 years that I smoked analogs.

Im not sure what location would have to do with who direct inhales and who mouths the smoke. Is it possible americans tend to smoke menthol more than they do regular cigs and thats why americans tend to direct inhale more so than people abroad?

Voted. I learned to smoke, and still do it the vast majority of time, with the mouth inhaling method. But i also tend to "play" with smoke a lot, maybe taking a little direct inhale by opening the mouth near the cig, then stopping my drag just to send down the lungs the smoke that i still have in my mouth.
Even more so with vapour: i tend to take a 1st long drag, exhaling a bit trough the nostrils, then take a 2nd long drag and "play" a bit with the vapour before sending it down where it belongs =)

kate u have the gang.. me i just have myself...

i go with Oscar Wilde...

"apart from the majority being right.. they are invariably wrong"

which pretty much mean i never have much of a gang..

so when your poll prove my theory correct leaford are u gonna admit to me having a pretty "wise ...".. he he he

I've told you before, Trog. It's all about the evidence for me. I didn't think the sample size was large enough to draw those conclusions. And it hasn't been running long, so it's still too early to cal it. But, if the evidence supports them fine.

It still doesn't make our young American ways of doing things any wronger than yours. We get nicotine, we enjoy it, which part is wrong? Or do you mean morally wrong? Is that the eleventh commandment? Wrong like factually incorrect? No, it's a fact that people do it, so that can't be it. Just exactly where is the wrong except that it's not YOUR way?

Seriously, you just said it yourself, there's a right way and a wrong way, so I want to know how direct inhaling is wrong?

tobacco companies have done lots of research on smoking styles in different communities and ethnic backgrounds. There do seem to be trends.

Also I would imagine that most people learn to smoke and vape without being shown how to inhale, IMHO its probably instinctive and instinct is cultural just as lung function and propensity to smoke menthols are.

I can suck start a leaf blower.

i think direct inhaling is proving to be a younger generation American thing..

at least the poll kinda strongly point that way..

this opens up the next question... why..???

i have a pretty good (out of my ... leaford) theory as to why the younger generation thing...

in days gone by there was no shortage of smoker teachers.. i think mouth smoking has always been the traditionally accepted way of smoking for many many years.. it simply got passed down this way...

so whats changed.. smoking is now an anti social habit.. people do not get taught to smoke they teach themselves often in secret...

purely a theory.. but like most of my theories they are as likely to be as any.. i aint daft..

What if there are more Americans voting or did I miss something? I have seen evidence of direct inhale in this UK country I live in but only a few friends did it, friend John did and he wheezed alot and gave up for 3 days before smoking again bless him, if I was still in contact I know he would love a Screwdriver!

I feel that such 'trends' have three causes. Part Darwinian, part social, and part contributory.

It's like asking somebody to look at their fingernails. Most women hold their hand palm down, fingers outstretched. Men tend to hold their hand palm up, fingers curled in. There are too many factors affecting the behaviour and it's a highly complex subject.

perhaps it aint a complex as some would have us believe..

we dont walk backwards for example... why... perhaps there is a simple reason for most human behavior.. nature nurture is a very old argument..

i think modern thinking puts far to much emphasis on nurture.. as i have gotten older i lean far more towards nature.. we are what we are.. not what someone makes us..
