is vaping really an "epidemic" among teens?

Get over yourself. I never said lock the door or keep them from school. Taking away electronics and creature comforts is not child abuse. Neither is making them earn such things back.

I must have been abused big time when I was a kid..... I never had things like electronics ( other than the wall socket)..
no PS3's, no I phones, no computers, no Gameboys.... but then again they didnt exist either ;) OMG!!!! how did I make it thru childhood?!?!??!?!?!?!!!!! ;)

This all goes on parents, when kids are buying online. If they'd not give their little "angels" credit cards and bank cards or actually check on what the kids are doing with the money, it could stop this. If kids under legal age are caught with stuff, how about arresting them for breaking the law. Then look into how they got it, if they used a cc, get on the parents for not being a parent. If stores are selling to underage people (face to face) , shut the store down. It's not that hard to stop the "epidemic", but we for some reason quit holding people accountable for their actions.

We have to quit calling them kids or children. These are young adults breaking the law and getting a free pass, cause they're just "kids", I call bs. We want to teach the young responsibility, so they will mature into responsible citizens, right? Well let's begin with the responsibility of following the rules and what happens when you don't.

Take a hard line on this stuff and it slows down. Put the accountability where it goes, not on everyone else. I don't blame car makers for fast colorful cars, but I guess if a teenager steals one and wrecks it, it's the car makers fault. The car maker just tempted the poor child too much, right?

To me this is just stupidity at it's finest, this is why the US places last among other countries. Kids are growing up without being able to understand personal responsibility and/or self reliance. We are becoming a country of it isn't my fault, don't blame me, you're hurting my feelings......where's my safe space.

Oh no...............arresting kids for vaping, smoking or even drinking is just stupidity at it's finest...

I didn’t have that stuff either but I did have a beloved radio and record player that was removed from my room regularly. Worked better than being grounded. My dad was smart, he knew what it hurt to lose and used it. The only thing they never took away was my endless stacks of books.

Just seen a piece on our local news station about teenage vaping and they are calling it an epidemic. They showed some upcoming tv clips that's part of the fda's war against it, hoping these scare tactic video clips will persuade teens against it. I guess they are going to start running this stuff and it's quite ridiculous. They showed a clip , showing a teen inhaling a vape and then it shows their skin bulging everywhere, like worms under the skin, then it shows the brain kind of frying or something. ..drinking, cigarettes, and now you know what is ok because the government is making money, but vaping is killing you now...absolutely ridiculous. They show teens vaping in school and everywhere, but never mention anything about enforcing the laws to stop kids from getting it...

The numbers show that teen vaping is not an epidemic. But I'm fine with the whole anti-vaping for teens. They don't need to be doing it anyway. Hold the shops and gas stations responsible. But just don't start going after the adults. Leave us be. We all know vaping is 95-97% safer than smoking. Just like smoking and drinking it should be our choice.

I'm not typically a conspiracy theorist, but Mr. Magoo can see the FDA, big tobacco, and big pharma are in on this to keep people smoking because of the money to be made. Smoking causes all kinds of diseases which big pharma makes bank on treating and the government makes big money on cig sales. That's pretty much it.

Just to add, My grandfather was a heavy smoker and got lung cancer in his mid-60s and had to have one of his lungs removed. The medical bills before insurance we six figures. He died the day after the surgery. My grandma got tons of bills for years. Easily into the six figures. Times that amount by the hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions who are treated for smoking related illnesses and tell me the government really wants you to quit smoking. This is the sad reality of this country.

All the while, other countries are embracing and even encouraging vaping.

I certainly don't think a teen epidemic in vaping is happening in the UK. My friend works in a school and they're all still smoking proper fags behind the bike sheds, honouring that time honoured tradition of rebellious teens of every generation. Probably holding them all funny and not inhaling properly and stuff.

But several people I remember from my own days only did the smoking thing for a month or two and then moved on (not all obvs).

It's that age. They're going to do all sorts of naughty things, and probably experiment more with stuff that gets them high tbh.

The whole 'think of the children' scare mongering reminds me a lot of the alcopop panic in the early 90s. 13 year olds drinking low alcohol booze in parks my god.... You mean they're doing the same stuff they always did only instead of cheap cider it's cheap lemon stuff? My god! Think of the children and think of how many more papers headlines like t this will sell!

May be different in other countries, don't know. Sure I wouldn't want to catch my child vaping in the future, but it's way more likely you'd find them with normal cigarettes, cigarettes with funny green bits in or illicit booze than something like their uncool mum, dad, gran, teachers are all using to quit

Tbh I'm more concerned with how much time the kids spend on their smartphones and on social media, it's a colossal waste of time and a good portion of them seem to lack social and real world skills (based on what 1st semesters bring to uni nowadays). They'll be useless once they finish school but hey at least they don't vape

I think part of this campaign on teen vaping is a cover for what they think they are vaping other than nicotine. I am more concerned about the Tide pods, geez teens do dumb stuff! LOL

They should put an age restriction on buying Tide pods, place a giant warning on the box THIS CONTAINS TIDE, and hold public hearings on addressing the epidemic of Tide abuse.

Don't forget Cinnamon, we need a big old surgeon general warning on that stuff too, it can kill people.
