SO, I'm not sure if anyone has written about this or not (I didn't see anything in this thread), but I finally figured out the reason for the design of the iClear 30s. Everyone has stated the obvious: that there is a metal tube surrounding the wicks with holes in it that makes it look like a cartomizer. However, why is that so? Well, I was dry burning the atomizer section yesterday with the tank off, and found out why. The darn thing nearly gave me second degree burns on my fingers. It gets HOT!!! I think this is intentional as a means to heat up the ejuice, thin out the viscosity, and get it wicking better/faster.

I've also read that some people love the vapor, some hate it. I'm wondering if those with lower viscosity liquids (high PG) might get too much thinning from the heat, whereas those with higher viscosity liquids (high VG) might be getting the right amount of thinning. I'm not sure why too much thinning would cause a problem with flavor, etc., other than perhaps people are vaping it at their usual voltage settings and should be trying it at lower settings due to the design of the atomizer head. Just curious as to what everyone's thoughts are.

Touching the metal tube when dry burning the iClear 30S coil: don't do that!

I have been fairly pleased with the results of dry burning these things. Rinse, burn, rinse, repeat 2 or 3 more times. I do a lot of burning each time. I haven't yet gotten the coils to glow bright red but have definitely been able to get the black off them. I leave the plastic tube in place. After the final rinse I'm vaping a lot of water for a good number of hits unless I'm willing to wait for the wicks to dry, but no harm done as far as I'm concerned.

Regarding your PG/VG ratio theory and high power: My DIY joose is 75% to 80% PG and I use 10 to 12 watts of power without experiencing burnt taste. YMMV.

After rinsing to clean, I blow the coils off quite a bit and they do eventually glow when dry burning.

I like the heat theory for the sheath around the wicks. I think it traps juice in there in between the wicks even if level is lower. It is possible that both theories could be mutually true, or possibly either or both false. What I do know is that it performs better with the sheath, for some of the inconvenience it may cause, when compared to the original 30 or similar setups such as the novas.

Just got my VTR and I love it! Taste is amazing!

Not sure if I hear the noise though! Did it happen right away or is it something that develops?

Mine should be here within the next 20 minutes! Not actually had chance to use mine yet due to supplier issues! Can't wait to try it

you may or may not hear it depending on what ohm coil you are firing. Mine is barely audible and I cannot hear it if I run 3 ohm coils. Less than 3 ohm and it is very faint. It does not effect the performance and is a non-issue for me.

BTW, I love the switch on mine. It is the perfect tension but wish it was a little higher on the mod.

Only thing I do not care for is the floating/rotating atty base. I see no reason for that at all.

To me that rotating head is just a point of failure built into the VTR and totally useless for installing or removing a tank. I like my VTR quite a bit and have ordered two more as gifts, but I am concerned about that rotating 510 connector. Mine gave resistance readings as high as 5.8 ohms on a 2.1 ohm device when I first got it. I cleaned the rotating head, as best as I could given the lack of access, and worked it extensively by spinning it around as well as back and forth a large number, well into the hundreds, of times. Now, the resistance readings are staying relatively constant, within a tenth of an ohm, but I worry about the integrity of that rotating connection all the time.

I think the purpose of the rotating ring may be to allow one to position gennies with the air hole out. Innokin made mention on their FB page that the VTR would work with gennies but never clarified. It also works very nicely to position my Vision Aurora bottom feeder tanks so I can easily squeeze the bottle to feed the atty.

I have been having the same thing happen occasionally... not quite that high, but I've had a 2.5 ohm read 3.2 a couple of times and taste a little burned when hitting it at 6.5w. It only happens once every couple of days, and resolves if I spin the connector and tank a couple of times. I also find that it reads the coil .1 or .2 ohms higher than either my MVP2 or Tesla when testing the same coil across all of them. All in all, I'm very happy with it, even with these minor issues... I may have to pick up a backup unit soon, just to be safe.

It would increase power if it reads the resistance of the coil incorrectly due to a bad connection with the rotating 510 connector. Usually, applying power to a "less than optimal" connection will clear the problem and return the reading to normal, but that doesn't work every time, hence the over power and burnt taste.

Six days with the VTR, and I'm loving it!!!

My MVP sits (rather depressed) in my drawer, wondering where the love went. ;)

The MVP WILL come back to the coffee table for some quality time (along with miss eVic), but the VTR is really the cat's meow.

=^..^=

Disclaimer -> I still use an eGo 450 mAh and an EVOD for when I'm out and about.

Is that wrong?

;)

I've been using my VTR every day since early October, and have Vaped maybe twice on my other stuff and put them away after a few minutes

That's simply wrong. Ye shall be shunned and cast in with the commoners until ye shall return to your senses. :toast:

You and me both. When the Ego/Evod falls on the concrete/rock or gets slimed with my grease covered hands or slams against the excavator I'm climbing on to check the oil (you get the picture) I just happily vape on. If my VTR/Provari/etc were to go through any of that I think I would die inside just a little bit.
