Island Vapor ... is it glowing evenly? Sounds like a wicking issue if it goes out when held down.
See if it glows evenly when dry ....
I find if my tank is FULL it doesn't wick as well on a new wick, after a bit it does fine, but right away it seems to wick best at 3/4 full.

Sorry - forgot to add, I used water to quench, and PG to "turn and burn" once wrapped ....

I don't quench. I roll the wick, torch it 3 or 4 times, then juice it and light it until the flame burns out a few times. Then I insert it, wrap the coil, and check for shorts. Once I'm set, I invert it slightly and wet burn a few times to make sure everything still looks good and then I vape. In my experience, the first 1/2 ml will be a touch hot/harsh but that fades quickly.

Edited to add: I'm going to try loft's method as that makes it even easier.

When preparing a new wick.Is it better to quench it in water,PG or VG.I seem to wrap my wicks tight and they short out on the wick.I am working on that.I did not know if PG or Vg would coat the coil faster.Almost every coil I wrap shorts to the wick.I just did a 3 wrap and no way the coil is touching and after 3 seconds the coil start glowing.I tilt my katana downword and it stops put back upright and again after 3 seconds or so the coil glows again. Is it a short or not wicking????

This is not poor wicking ot a short actually :)

With a 3 coil wrap you are in the 1.0 ohm or less territory with 32ga kanthal. It gets hot too fast for wicking to keep up with it. You need to supply alot of air movement over the coil to prevent it from butning as well as to have the mesh flowing very nicely. You can do it, it will knock your socks off and if you're not careful will get you into nic overdose territory.

If you like a hot vape then you can do it this way. To keep the juice from burning while you're breaking in a 3 wrap coil, just pulse the button...1 second on, 1 second off while you are vaping. This will take care of the burning issue. Again, just be careful, nic delivery at that heat, done properly, is very high. :)

Good to read your posts Lord, you are an expert!!!

Thanks emonty :)

I was one of the early adopters of the Genisis so I have been using them a pretty long time now. I remember how frustrating it was at first when there was not that much information about them and how to use or set them up so I try to help others as much as I can so they too can enjoy the Genisis experience. ;)
