So glad to hear you're happy with it!!!
Now you're a spoiled vapor!!!
Just a quick trick I learned I keep the leads for the coil long and wrap them around the screws and pull the leads kind of snug that way they won't slip from under the screw. I also use that "rod" I wrap the coils with in the coil as I'm setting it in place so that it's a little easier to manipulate.
But you seem to have it handled bro!
Big congrats!!!

False alrm after about 5 minutes it just quit wicking the ejuice. The wonderful flavor I was experienced was from soaking the wick in my ejuice, once that ran out it just quit wicking and is giving me the burn copper taste. I feel like I am missing something fundamental about getting the siphone going.

Any help is appreciated as I'm at my wits end. The frustrating part is that first few minutes is so go and superior to anything I've experienced then it just goes to hell with burnt cotton.

Is it possible to have the cotton packed too tight inside the micro coil?

Also when it goes from good to bad its abrupt, I quit hearing the juice gurgling.

Now that I've finally figured out a proper build this tobecos kayfun lite is my best tank, I mean the flavor on the intake and exhale are just unbelievable and I'm just using a straight mechanical nemesis (18500 battery.) this is like a new dimension to vaping, hard to describe how the flavor could be so much better than the aerotank. And I think with a bit of practice I could get the time for a microcoil build under 15 minutes.

The trickiest part right now is getting the coil ends to stay under the Phillips post as I tighten down. Seems non intuitive to wrap counter clockwise and tighten clock wise. I reckon I just need more practice.

Can't wait to try the Ephro, I hope it works as well a the tobecos kayfun lite.

Thanks for all the help received here, I am looking at owning a tank that not only has incredible taste but also doesn't chew-up and spit out $1.50 heads every few days. That's a big money saver.

My advice to anyone on the fence is to watch the micro-coil you-tube video's and give it a try (exclude the Britsh one, it lead me into using way to much wick.) And use sterile cotton unless you like the idea of boiling and drying for days on end (not my cup of tea.)

I just got an EHPro KFL+ v2 a couple weeks back and I love it! The build quality is top notch and the vape is awesome. In fact I want to get another one soon just to have for alternate juice flavors.

Something that might be giving you problems with that Tobeco is that they're known for using screws that are round underneath; this makes it a little tricky to catch the coil, since it wants to push it out as you tighten the screw down. The EHPro's screws are flat on the bottom, so they don't have this problem.

When it comes to wrapping coils, here's how I do it: hold your drill bit (or whatever you're wrapping around) horizontally in front of you with your left hand. Start with the wire against the "back" side of the drill bit. Grab the bottom of the wire and wrap it towards you, up over and around the bit; you'll be wrapping from left to right. Continue until you have as many coils as you want, and leave the "finishing" end of the wire pointing down. Now you should be able to lay your coil on the Kayfun build deck and wrap the wire clockwise around the screws. It might seem a little weird wrapping the coil towards you the first time you do it, but you'll end up with a coil that goes on the atty in a logical way. Hopefully this helps (and made sense ;) .)

[BTW, if you're a lefty you'll have to figure out how to reverse it on your own :p. Actually, you'd just wrap the wire from right to left, but start with the wire touching the side of the drill bit facing you, and wrap away from you.]

I've just finished my first build and the tank is almost empty, which has led to a few questions:

How often do you change the cotton wick and dry burn it? (every how many tanks at 4.5ml per tank)

How often do you clean it out? I would guess the same time that you change the wick?

Can you change flavors by just rinsing the cotton with purified water?

Can you top it off if it's say, half empty, by turning it upside down and filling from bottom? Or top off from top and keep the air hole covered?

When I was using cotton I was changing the wick on every fill up. If I was just topping off the tank I wouldn't. I get one full tank to last me an average day; so, in the evening I would rewick, dry burn, clean it and filler up for the next day.
I just switched to rayon and have gone a full week now on the same wick.
I've never rinsed cotton with anything.

How often do you change the cotton wick and dry burn it? (every how many tanks at 4.5ml per tank)Depends on how gunky your juice is. The severely gunky juices wont last a tank. The very clean burning juices you can get 3 - 4 tanks from. Due to the ease in changing the cotton wick,I change it every tank even though I know I can go longer.

How often do you clean it out? I would guess the same time that you change the wick? Again, depends on the gunkiness of your juice. As long as everything is firing and tasting good then keep going. You'll learn when it's time to change the wick and clean your Kayfun

Can you change flavors by just rinsing the cotton with purified water? Yes. You can also fill your Kayfun with a different flavor once you've vaped off the previous flavor (it will vaporize to the very last drop). Youl have a bit of a transition period is all.

Can you top it off if it's say, half empty, by turning it upside down and filling from bottom? Or top off from top and keep the air hole covered?Yes. I fillfrom the bottom and I top off if I feel it is necessary. remember to always leave a little air bubble...do not fill right up to the fill hole.

See bold print above.

Great answers from both of you, thanks! I'll have to look into rayon, I'm lazy.

Changing it every tank explains why some of the builds on my aerotank were tasting funky.

I did seem to go through 4.5 ml pretty quickly. This thing seems to be a juice hog-I'm not vaping more often than I did, or maybe I am?

You might be vaping a gunky juice and more cleaning/wick changing will be necessary. Truthfully though, changing the cotton wick is no work. Pull the old one out, shove a new one in. No big deal. And while it's apart you give everything a nice warm water rinse. Blow out the air passage and dry burn your coils before putting the new cotton in.

Seconding bronze here-
Some juices gunk up a coil faster then others. especially dark juices
Seeds, coffees, nuts will gunk it up the quickest; and, are the reason I moved to rbas
I had a hazelnut coffee that would kill a pro tank halfway through. But like bronze said dry burning and changing a cotton wick takes 5 seconds. The coil should last till you're sick of it. My daily driver kfl is going on 2 months with the same coil. And as cheap as cotton is I always stayed on the safe side to avoid an issue during the day.

I only use Silica and never a burnt hit. I tried cotton and just didn't like it. Love my Kayfuns!
I finally got rid of my cotton taste, but now it just went 'burnt' (ack!)... Actually finding it hard to like this KFL+... Even when working, I get better flavor from my PT3's, and MUCH better flavor from the Origen V2..

Thanks this will help me build the micro-coil but I wouldn't think that related to the sudden lack of wicking I'm experiencing about 5 minutes after a build?

I've been told that laying horizontal the fluid level should be no more than half. Over that and the vacuum/siphone doesn't work. So I drained off the access, its been working a good half hour more than I've gone so far. Hope that's all it was, fingers crossed:2cool:.

I fill my kayfuns with 4ml at a time. I love going all day without refilling.

Well it must be a quirk with my version of the Tribeca because following the instructions not to fill past half way laying horizontal has kept the wicking going 45 minutes now (I personal record.)

Well, I know that :) Problem is 'why?'. Thats what I need to figure out...

If you are using cotton and you are getting burnt flavor, it is likely one of two problems (or both). 1) You're wick is too fat, and/or, 2) your wick is not sitting on the deck correctly.

With regard to the first, the most common mistake is people using a cotton wick that is too wide. They stuff it in their microcoil (you do make microcoils, right?) and pinch off the wicking action. You need only enough cotton so it easily slides back and forth through your microcoil with just light resistance. With regard to the second, trim your overall wick length to be equivalent to your overall KFL width (aprox 23 mm's). Wet the ends with juice and paste them to the sides of your deck. Do not stuff the wick IN the juice channels. Simply lay them on the top of them. If you stuff them in you will choke off the juice flow.

Good luck Spunky. :)

Yessir... cotton slides in the coil easily with no rolling or twisting of the cotton. I have tried the 'fold and lay it against the sides' method and the 'trim at the top of the chimney' method. The chimney method takes away the cotton taste, but it went from 'almost no flavor' to 'burnt' in a day.

What kind of Kayfun do you have?
