My lighter works fine on 28 gauge Kanthal. I just move it slowly and continue on to the next bit as soon as I see the wire relax. It's a slightly fancy lighter, one of those that have the cyclone effect from the placement of the air holes, as opposed to the standard Bic type. So I know it has a hotter flame. Try one of the mini torch style lighters you can get at most smoke shops, pic linked below. (not suggesting that you purchase this particular item, solely to show style I'm trying to describe.)

Hmmm... I had a very hard time threading a wick into 5/64 coils, but that was with the T3S coils I was doing, very limited space to work in, so it might be easier to get it threaded, now that I have more "elbow room." Also I learned the trick about using a bit of wire to pull it, doubled, thru the coil, and that should help a great deal too.

So I'll try that, until I can get some 28ga and a torch. Fed refund coming, *sometime* this month, so I can get a lot of those incidentals that always seem to be necessary for all this stuff. ;)

Thx!!

Hey guys I need to call on your collective knowledge. Only been using kayfuns for 4-5 months and I'm a little stumped.

I have 2 KFL+ v2's (one from Cloud 9 and one from VapeRev). The one from C9's positive block keeps coming loose and then spinning usually after a days use or so. The center pin is screwed in tight. What would cause it to loosen over the course of a day? Maybe a bad insulator? I don't think its anything I'm doing (but it could be) because am not having any issues with the VR edition.

I know some of you guys have been messing around with kayfuns for AWHILE so hopefully I can get some input from ya. Thanks.

Yes, I do 30ga, 10 wraps around a 2mm (5/64's) microdriver shaft. It yields 2.0 ohms. I did the 28ga as well (same wraps and diameter) and it yielded 1.5 ohms. There wasn't a whole lot of difference except the 28ga took a little longer to heat up. It boils down to preference as always. I think if I try another coil it will be with 32g twisted like Dust is contemplating. I've heard good things about those coils.

Hey Dust, I have my Kayfun apart so I'm gonna try the cotton ball again. It'll be the thousandth time but this time I boiled the cotton. We'll see if there is any difference. Same coil from December 1.

I don't boil the cotton, General. I just make sure my fibres are running in a straight line and a nice and stretched. Minimum resistance to wicking.

Take a pic when done. I want to see those 5 month old coils. :)

I've done twisted 32 a number if times. In fact have one right now in one of my KFL's. Advantage, you can really crank those suckers up. Where I normally vape between 10 and 12 watts, you can easily go to 14 or 15 without any issues with twisted wire. More intense definitely but carries flavour well..

I always go with the grain too Dust. I still use cotton in some of my NET drippers. Easy to switch out.

Well, I dunnit I dunnit! I got the organic cotton balls at walgreens; I used a 3/32 drillbit, 7 wraps, solid on 2Ω. And it does vape very well, there seems to be rather more vapor, the throat hit is so intense at 8.5w that later I'll be turning it down for sure; not sure if the improvement is more because of the organic cotton, or the extra wrap. I did order a little of the 85% VG from myfreedomsmokes earlier (get my regular Virginia from them, usually in the 85% PG but I don't seem to need that much with the kayfun). I'll have to just guesstimate percentages right now, since I'm not putting together one of my normal "batches", I also add a couple flavors to it. It's not *really* "DIY" because I only mix e-juice, not flavors/nicotine, but it lets me customize it to my own taste and nicotine preference. With the kayfun I think I could go to something like 70%/30% rather than the current 85%/15%.

I had one of those "I won't do THAT again!" moments earlier; I had just finished a coil just like the one described above, got it wicked, the kayfun put back togther, filled it, made sure there was no flooding, and got ready to vape it. the first time I hit the fire button, there were some pops, then a really loud POP! and suddenly the resistance went from 2Ω to 9.9Ω... sure enough, one of the wires on the screws had just popped apart. So even with a lighter, gotta go a bit easier on the "torching."

Thx y'all; lots of good advice and feedback and insight in here. I really appreciate it! :thumb: *big hug* Too bad there's no icon for that!

Yeah with those T3S tanks I started with, I had gotten into the habit of double- or even triple-puffing them, to get a good hit, but I sure don't need to do that with this thing, and it's not choking me up so badly since I stopped doing that! :D But I do think a reduction in PG is in order, the dehydration is terrible with this high a level, and I don't have to use that much with this, to get really excellent throat hit, it's just amazing. I hate that it took me so long to get into building coils, I could've been vaping this well all along, if I hadn't insisted that I was both too blind and too stupid to learn to build coils. Guess I'm neither. :D The vision thing really is killing me though, I need to get one of those lighted-magnifiers from Harbor Freight, so I can see these pesky little things.

The verdict is in on my 32g. twisted coil build... hmmmm... yep, I do like it better than my 28g. 5/64th's .8 ohm build...
also, air flow control screw is flat headed now. I leave it in, but all the way down to the deck, and it doesn't creep down to the pv head and cause a scratch and grab situation there, as my 2 clones can do. It does have better air flow! - bubble puffs are much fewer and farther between again with this SVM ver.2 -- saved up money, well spent here..:2cool:

Man I have found that these things are so damn finicky it's not funny. Lmao I set mine up 23 times in two days (my only 2days off that week was spent trying to get it running lol) (and ended up letting my 6yr old wrap one coil cuz I thought maybe I'm wrapping it too right and don't worry that's all she did was wrap wire around a drill bit) I ended up giving up on it and went back to drippers. About 3wks later a vape shop opened up next to where I work and I brought them my own supplies and said here play with this. I can't do it. (I thought my clone had crappy small channels and I'm sure you'll see me complain on many diff kfl threads) the guy set it up once and said here try this. Not one dry hit lol I was so furious. I couldn't figure out what he did that I didn't do. He did exactly what I been doing this whole time. So after I finished my tank I went for a refill. Immediately I got dry hits. Ugh. Back to square one. I changed nothing so I was clueless all I did was refill it. Smdh. To make a super long story (sorry) a few sentences shorter. The whole time I had the build and set up right. What I was doing wrong was over filling it. Lol. After countless wasted juice spilling out from hard primer hits and countless headaches that's what I was doing wrong. Now I have been trying the top fill method and I haven't had an issue yet. Lol. Sorry for the ramble. But sometimes we live and learn and if you are having dry hits and lots of problems just take a breath and thibk hmmm maybe I over filled it
