Note from svoemesto:

Kayfun 5 – a message to “mouth to lung” vapers …or traditional vapers, I should say.

What we have observed
Since the Kayfun 4 was released, we have observed that around 50% of all Kayfun 4 customers have bought a 4S Kit, willing to sacrifice adjustability to increase the airflow. Furthermore, we still received feedback that many vapers were still missing a little bit more airflow.

Intention
The Kayfun 5 is by no means a “subohm tank” only. Our core focus has always remained on flavor and usability. It can be used as mouth to lung device and, thanks to being adjustable in air- and liquid flow, it can be used with a variety of setups. It was not our intention to build a cloud chasing device, but we recognize the fact, that there are vapers at any stage, from beginner to enthusiast, who simply prefer direct lung inhaling and who’ve been neglected by us in the past.

Kayfuns have always been modular and customizable
As with most things, the truth usually lays somewhere in the middle. Therefore, most of todays vapers like a setup somewhere in the middle.
We’re confident that, for the vast majority, the Kayfun 5 will have an airflow setting you will enjoy.

Personally my go to is the Kayfun V4. Some say it's over engineered but it is "THE" best RTA "i've" ever used. If it had the same build deck as the V5 then screwing down a coil would be much easier though. Although having said that, 29g wire goes in with no problems at all.

Still loving th V4 !.

I'm totally with you on the 4.. I LOVE it!

My kayfun 5 has been in constant rotation for almost a year now, really like it, and use it in almost the exact opposite of how you use it, I keep the airflow wide open on the restricted lung hit setting. Right now I have a .3 ohm ish fused clapton in it, and vape it around 40-45 watts depending on the juice. Other times I'll use a SS316 spaced coil with temp limiting/control.

It's a great tank, no matter how you use it, low airflow MTL style and higher ohm/lower wattages, or restricted lung hit lower ohm/higher wattages. I don't know that I agree 100% with you that it is better with the MTL reducer and lower wattages, but those opinions are a bit subjective, and I respect your opinion and am glad it got you to think differently about your vaping style. The KF5 also changed my vaping style a bit too, from dual coil high airflow RTAs, and RDAs to now more restricted lung hit single coil RTAs, and restricted airflow RDAs.

TLDR; it's a versatile, and great flavor RTA.
It seams that the new trend lately is to make the "let's please everyone Rta" by providing a range of options for vapers. I've seen DL tanks try to be MTL tanks as well as the opposite. But when that happens you lose a bit on either end. Does the KF5 do that? Well some MTL vapers think it does not have the tight enough draw as the older ones (KF2 ex.) DL vapers think it's too tight.. while the KF5 does have a huge range to satisfy a majority of vapers, if you fall into one extreme or the other there may be better options was what I was getting at.

You are running .3ohms 3.4-3.7 volts in TC mode is a lot different than Wattage mode .3 ohms Kanthal at 4.2v =58w. To get a quicker ramp up for a kanthal Clapton even higher watts can be needed. With the small chamber and restricted air flow, the wick will get carmalized and get nasty quick due to the fact it can't cool down fast enough.. That why Svomesto recommends .5ohm 30-35w to max out at in wattage mode.. but I'm sure there is some wiggle room there.(TC is different obviously)

If your going to spend a $120 and expect to throw high wattage builds you can find a better tank for $40. But if you want a tank that can do MTL and sub ohm at lower wattages With a restricted DL it's the best money you will ever spend.

If it helps I'd say I'm an in between vaper in all aspects. I don't vape MTL or quite what most call restricted DTL, tight restricted DTL. I do subohm .5 but its a 5 wrap 26 awg nichrome at 12-15w. I'd say the trend is more geared toward DTL thse days, most new tanks I almost need to close it to get a good vape where just over a year ago everything was wide open airflow. Need to buy a separate drip tip too, wide bore just wasn't big enough for people now they need to cover almost the whole thing I guess.

I'm mostly an mtl vaper, my first setup was a curve20w and a nautilus mini & the nautilus mini is still my favorite tank to this day. I've just got a triton mini that I am really happy with & I have tried alot of sub ohm tanks inbetween but it's really just not for me, I've tried the tfv4, the tfv8, the cleito and a couple others and they are just too airy of a draw for me.
@Gramdogg I really hate them wide bore drip tips, it reminds me of a car exhaust hahaha

Yeah they are all super airy subtanks, As far as factory coils I think the subtank mini, melo 3 or joyetech ego one mega w/ CLR may be good ones to try. All have RBA decks or coils available and a nice in between vape. Most RTA's today I can tell just by looking at them they are no good for me. Add 22mm to the mix and maybe 10 tanks in the last year interest me, other 10,000 are no good.
